In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Paula - ask for a pic with you and Jesse to be taken at the gym so you have a before and after with him. That way you have a reason to get his pic versus saying he has a band of curious Disney nuts who spend each week wondering what he looks like or whom! Plus his face on yourfridge or under your car visor would be great motivation!

Paula - all you have to do is tell him "we" want a pic. I'd bet money he wouldn't have a problem with that.

Lyz & others with teenage girls- do you ever look at your daughters and wonder if you were as smart as they are at this age in regards to boys?

I wasn't very smart about boys. Things are different in general. My daugher is more "awake and aware" of things than I was. I'm not sure how she'll act.

I'm positive I'm not much help, as I consider boys to be the enemy. They turn into men. Selfish men. And don't anybody go and give me crap about how some men are different. I don't care. The majority are jerkfaces. And even if they aren't at this minute or month, it's inside of them.

I think I might need thereapy.

Sorry ladies - the pic of me and Jesse won't be happening anytime soon. Nope - not going to happen. Nice try though.

He has been bugging me for a 'before' pic so I can be his poster child for before and afters and he is not getting that either. I know way too many people in that gym (and countless others who I may not know personally, but know of) and I just don't want that kind of attention. I'll show him a picture or two, but I am not giving him one. Sorry, I like my anonymity too much.

Hey - how come no one is asking Nancy about what Erin looks like? What is up with that? Nancy - help a girl out... please???

Lyz,

You would have made a fantastic mom to a boy ya know that? Because you would have made sure they turned out to be the type of men you know a woman deserves.

You would have taught him that there is more in the circle of life than a single heartbeat and being in a marriage means being in a band not a solo artist.

I hope that you choose thereapy someday if it is right for you. Not to talk you out of what you feel or think but to work on the why's and what part of the why can you change or have control over.

What I do know is that your pain and viewpoints are real for you based on what you have lived through and seen. For that I am sad but I would never give you crap. I lived with a Dad like you describe and to an extent Chad is much like that as well. Not exactly the same but enough that I can get it.

I know you are stronger than you give yourself credit for because a lesser woman would have became a complete mess by now. You are not a mess. You are a beautiful, unfinished quilt with tons of colored, intricate patches. Some patches sewn from hard material, but important for your finished self all the same.

Those are kind words. Fact of the matter is, I have a wonderful dad. And my everyday interactions with the male species hasn't been anything I consider out of the norm. I think I'm just predisposed to being a black widow. ;)

I am glad you have a great dad Lyz.

If you are a black widow, are you available for hire? How far does your web extend?:lmao:

What are you saying Paula? I spend too much time on the internet?

No - I am saying you all need to stop obsessing over a trainer... :rotfl:
Besides, I am on this blasted interenet as much as you are. I could never criticize for that.

BTW - any big plans for the weekend?

And THIS is why I love Lyz! This is 100% grade-A cutie! :lmao:

Since we seem to be on the topic of teens and sex ed and all of that...both Riley and Cammie know about the "facts of life." We sat each one down when they hit second grade and had "the talk." Yes, second grade!

Our pediatrician (who is the pediatrician for like 90% of the kids in school, I swear) suggests that parents tell their kids before 3rd grade. Why? Because more and more girls are getting TOM in the THIRD grade. Age 9! So they need to know the deal before then.

(Side note that will allow me to get on my soapbox for a moment.) The suspected reason why girls are "maturing" so much earlier these days is due to all of the hormones in beef and poultry (and milk). If THAT isn't reason enough to go vegetarian, I don't know what is.

Ok, off soapbox.

But seriously, we were really pleased with our decision to tell the kids so early. They were actually interested, they asked questions, etc. If we had waited till something like 5th grade, they would have just been mortified and sat there gritting their teeth until it was over. So it worked to our advantage.

Who the F said anything about Lyz being a mess???? Tell them to come talk to me. Word.

Hey everybody! Starting my weekend early, lol. My boss told me to hit the door running at 3, so here I am.

Off to catch up!

I WILL WALK TONIGHT!:lovestruc

and I'll be asking. So - did you walk yet? :confused3

oh - and bubble wrap. That's what Baylor needs.;)

It was a real people movie that featured "Captain Condom." Who after giving a lecture to kids about sex safety, had to go onto his next job. The kids he was lecturing asked "where to?" Captain Condom said, "Right upstairs to your parents room."[/COLOR]

Captain Condom? For real? that is totally lame

And I'm sure we were all total snots at that age -- we just don't remember. :rotfl:

I was so NOT a snot! :lmao:

I think I might need thereapy.

:rotfl2: oh honey. This IS therapy, isn't it?

No one cares what Erin looks like :lmao:. Just Jessie.

:lmao: So Erin. She is totally Pippy Longstocking. This tiny little strawberry blonde with pigtails. She seems soooo sweet. Until she starts bossing you around telling you what to do. And how many. And how heavy the weights will be. Fiesty, firey, Irish red-head that one is.

Since we seem to be on the topic of teens and sex ed and all of that...both Riley and Cammie know about the "facts of life." We sat each one down when they hit second grade and had "the talk." Yes, second grade!

Well, when the kids are raised around animals - they sure get to know a lot early on. From breeding to birthing to raising the babies. They definitely know the *consequences* involved with the actions!

I'm exhausted. Got to go make dinner now. And drink me some wine. (Cake in my head now.)

Right there with ya, Nancy. Only I am drinking rum and coke tonight. :thumbsup2

OK... Paula, Amy, LisaV... I just got back from seeing Star Trek as promised. And to give the board an example of my dedication to completing my task I would like for you to know that during the completion of said task of seeing Star Trek as I promised this week, I probably infected at least 75 people with the flu. That is because I have had said flu this week. So, in case, this outbreak of "Rod-fluenza" is traced back to be, it will indeed be Paula and Amy's fault. :goodvibes

Oh, Liz, I almost gave in, but I resisted what little of the intoxicating aroma of movie theater popcorn I could smell and didn't eat any, at all. ;)

Trip Report – Day 8, Going Home

Sadness! It is always hard when vacation comes to an end. SUCH a let down.

As good as the service was on DCL, they don’t mess around when it comes to getting you off the ship. While all of the CMs are certainly polite, they are no longer chatty. It is all business. Whatever it takes to get you off that ship as soon as possible.

We scheduled a wake-up call for 6:30. Didn’t get out of bed till 7. This was my mistake. I read through the information on de-embarkation and I noticed 3 seating times for breakfast. The latest one was at 8:15am, so I opted for that one, knowing we would need the extra time in the morning. Oops. Apparently, those 3 seating times weren’t optional. One of them was our scheduled time. And it was at some ungodly hour like 7am. Right, like I am going to have 5 people up, dressed, staterooms emptied out by 7am. Just not gonna happen.

Anyway, we managed to get everyone up and out by about 7:50. I am thinking that we are doing great. We had a couple of day packs with us (toiletries and jammies from the night before, etc.), but we are fairly streamlined and ready to go. The kids are tired, but not grumpy, so that is a plus.

So we head to Triton's, as that as our assigned restaurant. Our head waiter greets us, by name, yet he gives us a puzzled look. After a short conversation, we realize our mistake. He tell us to wait a bit and he will get a table for us. I feel like a bit of an idiot, but oh well, what are you gonna do? I use the wait to go print boarding passes. This was WAY WAY WAY harder than it needed to be. Certainly, this is one area that is sorely lacking on DCL. I know that most people don’t plan to do a lot of internet surfing while on a cruise, but really, the internet service is horrific—especially considering the astronomical prices that you have to pay to use it. (We didn’t really care about cost as Jeff just expensed it. He actually did do a lot of work while on board, so his company will pay all internet fees.)

We get seated and it is all business, business, business. Again, CMs are friendly, but they are running like MAD. You can tell that they must have a ton to do in order to turn the ship around and get ready for a whole new set of passengers who will be boarding in about 4 hours.

The “farewell breakfast” is definitely a different menu from the one we had enjoyed all week. Very scaled down. Only 2 courses instead of 4 with limited choices. Again, it is all “thanks for sailing with us, good-bye.” I will say, though, that we didn’t feel rushed. They refilled Jeff’s coffee and such.

Finally, the time had come to leave the ship. Sad!

DisneyCruiseMay2009015-5.jpg

Getting off the ship was a breeze. They really do have it down to a science. We showed our passports, declared our purchases at Customs, and were good to go. We went down to the luggage retrieval room at the terminal, fully expecting it to be a chaotic nightmare. I mean, they have luggage for like 2500 people down there! A super friendly CM/porter asks us what our stateroom number was and leads us right to our luggage. Impressive! It is all right there and waiting for us. Took less than a minute.

Once he sees how much crap we have, he offers to take it out to the car for us. Um, yes please. Again, a few dollars of tipping is SO SO SO worth it. I tipped for baggage handling at (1) curbside check-in, (2) bell services when we arrived at BCV; (3) Bell services when leaving BCV; (4) porter service when arriving at the cruise terminal; (5) porter service leaving the cruise terminal; and (6) curbside check in at the airport going home. Worth every. Single. Penny.

Again, Jeff has to engineer the luggage into the car. I vow to never again pack so much stuff. We are off and on our way back to BCV.

Now, one thing that I always, always do on our Disney trips is to book an afternoon flight home. This gets us home around 5-ish, which is plenty of time to get home, get laundry going, wind down, and get everyone in bed at a decent hour. BUT, it also allows us to have a final few hours of vacation. One thing I absolutely hate is to have to be out of the hotel at something like 6 or 7 am in order to catch a morning flight. It just seems like such a waste. My plan is to sleep in (a bit anyway), take our time getting out of the resort, and then be able to have one little bit of magic before we head home. My first choice is to do a character meal. When you have young kids, it doesn’t get much more magical than character meals. And it somehow makes it so much easier to head to the airport. You get to hug Mickey one last time before leaving.

If a character meal doesn’t work out time-wise, then I like to head to DTD to do our souvenier shopping. Let me tell you, DTD first thing in the morning is awesome. It is totally empty. As in NO ONE is there but you and the CMs in each store. I have some great pictures for previous trips. Also, since our kids pin trade, this is a great time to be in DTD. Pretty much all of the CMs in DTD pin trade. But it is next to impossible to trade with them since the stores are always mobbed in the afternoon and evening. So again, this makes for a really nice last-bit-of-magic. Kids get to do all of the pin trading they want PLUS buy their souveniers.

A final last-morning-option is pool time. This can be a bit more cumbersome, however. You have to leave all of the bathing suits out of the luggage, and then have some sort of plastic bag to put the wet suits in afterward, as you will have to pack the wet suits into one of your bags.

For this trip, I had reservations for 2 different character meals or thought we would shop at DTD, whichever best fit our moods/needs.

Ok, so we pull into BCV and our first order of business is to drop our Owners’ Locker with Bell Services. Let me tell you, I love having an Owners’ Locker! Makes traveling to Disney so easy! Once it is dropped off, we all head into the resort to use the facilities, give Art one last hug, and so Jeff can get a coffee at the Marketplace.

DisneyMasy2009Day2001.jpg

We had a fun little moment here. As we were walking in, there were several CMs out front welcoming guests home (LOVE that about DVC). They asked me if we were just checking in. I explained that actually we had just gotten off the cruise. The kids were already up ahead of me and heading to the bathrooms. Anyway, on our way back out of the lobby, one of the CMs said to the kids, “Welcome back from the cruise! Mickey told me he had so much fun with you three!” Since they hadn’t heard my earlier exchange with her, they were in awe! FUN!

So this is the point where Jeff turns BACK into the American Traveler from Hell. Honestly, I don’t know why this next part surprised me—I should be used to it by now. Every trip it is something. Usually when we first land. Now, when we land, I am all about getting to property as fast as humanly possible. I just want to GET THERE, you know? But a few years ago, when we landed Jeff decided that he needed a new watch.

“You mean like you want some kind of Disney watch and we should shop for one in the parks or at DTD?”
“No, I mean a regular, everyday watch for like work and stuff. Let’s stop at the mall on the way to the resort.”

OMG! Ok, I go along. Not worth an argument as we are going to be here for several days.

Then 2 years ago it was,

“I need new sunglasses.”
“Ok, I’m sure that every gift shop has a bunch of cheap sunglasses and you can just pick up a pair that will be fine for banging around the parks.”
“No. I mean I want to go to Sunglass Hut and get a new pair of really good sunglasses.”

So yet again, we hit the Florida Mall on the way from the airport to the resort.

(On a completely snarky note, Jeff can totally SEE the Portland Mall from his office. Yes, his office is within spitting distance to the mall. Which has a Sunglass Hut. And lots of shoe stores. Why flying on an airplane activates his shopping gene I will never know.)

I already mentioned that he needed to stop for Crocs on the way to the Cruise. Well, now on our last morning, our last bit of vacation, he said,

“You know, I am leaving for Asia right when we get home and I really need a new briefcase before I leave. This is the only time I am going to have, so let’s head to the mall so I can find a briefcase.”

No, I am totally NOT kidding!

To be fair, he had been saying for the past month that he needed a new briefcase. I even bought one for him a few weeks before the trip, but it wasn’t the right kind. I honestly thought he would just use his same on and would look for a new one in Asia where leather is a lot cheaper.

So, instead of a character meal, instead of shopping in DTD, instead of swimming in Storm-A-long-Bay, we went to the mall. That is how we used our last few hours of vacation. So much for leaving with an extra bit of magic.

I will say, at least, that the Florida Mall is awesome. It is a really high end mall. HUGE and has all of the good stores that you want to browse through. Of course, we weren’t interested in any of those. We were doing the oh-so-exciting task of looking for a briefcase. With 3 kids in tow.

Fortunately, we found exactly what he was looking for at the first store. The right thing for the the right price. Awesome, let’s pay for it and be on our way.

Upon entering the mall, I noticed that there was an M&M World. I remembered Nancy talking about how awesome the one in NYC is. (There are only 3 in the world—NYC, Vegas, and Orlando.) Since getting the briefcase didn’t take long, we had some extra time, so I insisted on visiting M&M World. I mean, if I couldn’t have my last minute magic, I sure as well was going to get some chocolate out of the deal, right?

MMWorld4.jpg

MMWorld3.jpg

That place is actually AMAZING. Really fun! They have huge vats of M&Ms in every color imaginable. I mean, you can’t buy most of these colors in regular stores. Sure, there are traditional M&Ms and then they come out with special colors for Christmas and Easter and so on. But here they have EVERYTHING. As in 14 different shades of just BLUE. And it is like that for every color.

MMWorld1.jpg

MMWorld2.jpg

We let each kid get a bag in fun colors for the plane. Then it was back to car and on our way to the airport. *Sigh*

We had different flights going home, of course, with the girls traveling with me and Riley with Jeff. But I was able to book it so that their flight left at 2pm and ours departed at 2:10. Perfect. Our plan was to do curbside check-in and then we would all go to lunch together before heading to our separate gates. The Orlando airport is pretty cool for stuff like this. They actually have *real* restaurants and even a whole mall inside the terminal.

As we are driving in to the airport, we realize that our airlines are not in the same terminal. Crap! Southwest is Terminal A and United is Terminal B. So much for our nice, relaxing, sit-down lunch as a family.

First we did curbside check-in for us. Since we were flying Southwest, there is no charge for checked baggage as there is on most other airlines these days. So I was in charge of all of the luggage while Jeff and Riley had a carry-on each. Once the luggage was gone, we dropped the guys off at their terminal. Then the girls and I returned the rental car and headed into the airport.

Again, the girls proved to be amazing travelers, handling themselves through security like pros.

We had a fair amount of time before our flight, so we went to lunch just the three of us. Nothing special, but we found a little Italian place where they had pizza and I had a salad and some garlic breadsticks. While eating, a couple comes up to us and says, “Ma’am, are you following us?” Turns out it was Stacey (from the podcast boards) and her husband. They were with another podcaster and her daughter (but I didn’t remember her name and of course, no one was wearing their lanyard nametags anymore!) We were all actually on the same flight, so we all headed to the gate together.

As soon as we reach the gate, we see that our flight has been delayed! CRAP! Fortunately, it seems to be minor—only 20-30 minutes.

The girls and I settle in to wait. Since this is the first down time I have had in days, I decide to make some phone calls. Who is my very first call? LYZ, of course! I couldn’t wait to tell her everything about the podcast crew! I knew she would be dying to know everything. I talk at her a mile a minute until Kel is too demanding to let me talk any longer. I didn’t even come close to telling her everything I wanted to.

Finally it is time to board. Phew! Not bad at all. Stacey and her family are right across the aisle, so we chat a bit and she filled me in on the podcast events that she attended that we didn’t. They did *all* of the events. But they also only have one daughter who is in high school and thus was independent on the ship (and an amazing kid, btw. She listens to the podcast religiously and was FAR more personable than Stacey, who was definitely socially awkward).

DisneyMay2009-Day1006.jpg

Our flight had a touch-down in Baltimore. We didn’t have to change planes, but people got off and others got on before heading home. We usually don’t have a problem getting a direct flight, but this one was MUCH cheaper, and it only lengthened our travel time by like half an hour so it was worth it. Stacey and the other un-named podcaster got off in Baltimore while we continued onward to the New Hampshire airport.

We landed in 50* temps and POURING rain. We were told it had been cold and rainy all week! YES! Love that! We were basking in the sun, thank you very much.

This was actually the part of the trip I was most stressed about…somehow getting all of that luggage and getting out to the car in long term parking with two little girls. Our luggage was FIRST off the plane. That was a huge stroke of luck. We had 4 checked pieces of luggage. I took two (plus had a backpack which was my carry-on) and the girls each had one piece and a messenger bag (that were their carry-ons, containing their iPods and coloring books, and reading books, etc.). Again, they were excellent travelers. They grabbed their own suitcases off the turnstile and we headed out into the rain.

My plan was to leave the luggage at the curb and go get the car, then come back and pick up the luggage and load it into the car. (This is a TINY airport, so this is not at all unsafe or weird.) However, there happened to be a security guy right there and he said we couldn’t leave our bags. I explained my situation, gestured to the girls noting that there was no way they could wheel their bags all the way to the parking lot. He radioed the shuttle, which was about 50 yards up the curb. The driver reversed it all the way to us, loaded our bags into the shuttle and we were on our way to the parking lot. Seeing that I was a “damsel in distress” and had the girls with me, he drove me right to my car and unloaded our luggage! AWESOME! I threw the luggage in the back and we were on our way. Home.

The end.

Ok, I read my post this morning and thought straight away $*@#, I didn't mean LisaV, I hope she didn't catch it - you are too fast for me!
Many many many apologies :lovestruc:hug::flower3:

I think I meant LisaZ - although again I could be wrong. I could have actually imagined it

Oh, LisaV - my guess for a lie-in is 7.45am! :rotfl:

Kelly - I adored your drunk post. Was just playing with you. :lovestruc

Hey people - this is all we have so far on "guess Erika's we got up late" quote.

Lisa V - 8:02
Kelly - 7:45

Thanks for playing Kelly. Everyone else - :rolleyes1

Zipping through as usual. I am reading though, honest.

I had to go into the hospital yesterday. We had a lead fired for HIPPA violation and I filled in for her yesterday. There are 2 of us trained as fill ins for vacation (usually). Now I need to decide if another 8 hour day a week is worth the pay increase and if this would, in turn, influence Mike's attitude toward money and travel. So much to ponder and we are so far behind in work I won't have a chance until this weekend.

WE HAVE NO GAMES, NO PRACTICES AND NO NOTHING PLANNED!!!!

Sleep in, WTH is that??? Sleep in around here is 6 a.m.

Shelby had her double header yesterday during which she hit 2 inside the park home runs and 1 triple, a single and a fly out to deep CF. She made 2 spectacular plays one from short and one from third. Mostly she caught and needless to say in the 92 degree heat, was hot and tired after the game. It is funny watching her out there as she really does not look like the other girls and does not play like the other girls. You know the Sesame Street song, which one of these is not like the other one? Yeah, that's her. I am going to try and get some pics at the games next week to post for you all to see her. And Paula, I have no idea how we created her. We laugh about our superior DNA pool. :lmao::lmao:

I am going to try and get 5 miles in today. I have not run this far since the marathon. I have been sticking to 3 and 4 mile runs and while another mile does not seem that far, I have been maintaining pretty fast speeds (for me) and I wonder if this will continue. I did a lot of chair jump squats yesterday but I guess those don't count as exercise. I did pack my cooler full yesterday and ate very well while in the hospital. They had hot dogs, chips and cake for the staff meeting and I did not eat one bite. Not one. Not even the soda that they had. Everyone thinks I am different at work anyway, I might as well further their notions...The weird nature girl gone mad...:goodvibes

Wow Lisa!!!!

I will work on getting an updated picture taken this weekend. I don't know about the smokin hot part, but I am pretty gosh darn happy about the way I look these days. I know you want a picture of the boy, but I can't just snap a photo in the middle of the workout. That would be just wierd. Sorry...

That is a beautiful thing...

Yes, yes you do.... all this and she wants a whistle too... :rotfl:

Good morning... Yes, I am obnoxiously chipper this morning, so my apologies to all you non morning people. It is a beautiful day here today. I am so leaving work early (or should I say on time) so that I can get a bike ride in after work today before it gets dark. Hopped on the scale this morning for a reality check and am loving the number I saw. Just need to make sure I don't eat my way through the weekend now. Planning a long bike ride on Sunday morning and I have my workout with Jesse on Saturday so those two things should keep me motivated.

Erika - loving the trip report. Loving it.

Kelly - loving the drunk posting from across the pond... too funny.

Hi to everyone...

Have a great day!!!

No one wants you to snap in the middle of the workout. Remember Cutie said website. We'll leave you alone for now.

Oh Paula - forgot this. I'm going to call you out on the before/after gym thing. You saying "not wanting to be out there or seen or Lisa can't remember your words. :lmao:

Anyway, big issue for me. Me too. And when I did my VB trip report - it was in some ways me pushing through that. Just sayin'. You should be seen and ooohed and awed over Paula. Look at you. So successful and so damn cute.

LisaV~ our birthdays are close! Hope you have a great time in Disney!
]

May 27 or June 2?

And I would phone and just letting them know you are following up. What is there to lose?

Some of Caylin's friends are totally boy crazy, wearing those little shorty shorts, and doin' the hair flip thing. I'm thanking my lucky stars right now.

And I'm sure we were all total snots at that age -- we just don't remember. :rotfl:

No, it doesn't sound normal. :)

That was me -- but not with MIL. With my mother. But they are leaving on Sunday. We do pretty good in smallish doses. And fortunately we live on opposite coasts.

Sorry Lisa. Sorry in general but sorry I missed it somehow.

LisaV - Have to ask - is there a particular team that you are rooting for in the playoffs or are you just enjoying the caliber of the games? Need to know what I am working with here.

fun!

Great games have the most meaning to me......Holy mother of Lord. You have no idea what just happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy cow. Cavs and Orlando!!!!!!!!!!!! Just as I was writing you Paula. Classic game. Orlando was about to go 2 and 0. Lebron comes down - one flippin' second - swoosh. It's over! It's over! Cleveland is saying "uh uh". Holy crap. Oh Lebron.

Oh yeah question. I would like to see Denver win Paula. Cinderella story in some ways. And Detroit let Chauncy Billups go to Denver. As in traded him -it's a business yes but a tad disrespectful. So love it for him.

Hi guys. First

EriKa - I AM so loving your tr! It's like I'm there!!!!! Did you find a magnet for me? The Palo dinner, what bliss.

LisaV - on fire you are! So, are you going to a park on this trip?

LisaPR - "YES" to having nothing scheduled. That was me, yesterday, today and most of tomorrow. It's AWESOME. Oh and your comment about your coworkers and nature girl cracked me up!

LisaZ - My daughter is into boys, but only from far away, thank goodness. And I don't allow the shorty shorts. One more thing, I don't know if its cause you're hiding from your mama, but your posting more often and getting to know you is nice.

Hi to everyone. Enjoying the volly today.

I thought no. No money for that Lyz. And then "hey free on my birthday". Aren't they smart those Disney girls and guys. They are getting Jean's moulah and they never would have.

Paula - all you have to do is tell him "we" want a pic. I'd bet money he wouldn't have a problem with that.
]

See! Lyz never ever lets me hold the bag. She never ever lets me hold the bag. I so love that Lyz. So love that.

And THIS is why I love Lyz! This is 100% grade-A cutie! :lmao:
