In room safe's

Hi,
I was wondering about the safe's in your room. We are staying at asmo. I'm going to bring my laptop with me so that my daughter can watch a movie on the plane and want to make sure it is locked up. This is probably a stupid question but is it combination lock or lock/key? this is kind of embarassing, but I'm terrible about combination locks, lol.

Also, we are ariving rather early so I doubt we can check in our room too early (arriving at airport at 11am, so I would think we would be there by 12:30 OR 1PM) what do I do with my carryons (laptop and daughter's backpack) while I head to the park?? Or should I wait around for our room to be ready?

It's locked with a key, but trust me, you will NOT be able to fit a laptop into it. The safes in the Values are only big enough to fit a few pill bottles & not much more. I was amazed at how small & shallow they are. I don't think you could barely fit a camera in there, much less a camcorder.....laptops definitely won't fit! I'm sorry.

As for your other question, you can check in whenever you arrive, but they won't release the room until 3pm (there's signs stating that, but I'm amazed at the number of people who don't read. ) Since the rooms are key-carded, they'll issue the cards to you, and with a few keystrokes at 3pm, they'll work for your room. In the meantime, they'll hold your bags for you so you can go to the parks, then deliver the bags to your room sometime after the 3pm mark. Although personally, I've always waited for my room to be ready---I prefer to make sure everything's ok from the start before I head off to the parks.

The in-room safe is very small and shallow. I think it's meant to hold personal papers, such as passports and wallets and such. It's probably the size of a regular-sized FedEx box, if you know what I'm talking about. It's built into the walls, usually inside the closet area.

When we were there in May, we left our laptop out everyday in the room. It was in its carrying case, but we would leave it on the side of the room, farthest away from the door, propped up against a wall. It was never touched and we never had any issues with it. I've heard that people will place the laptop in their suitcase and then lock their suitcase, or slide the closed suitcase underneath the bed. That may be another option.

As for checking in early -- We checked in at AKL around 9 am on a Saturday, and obviously, our room was not ready. So we simply went to DTD for a few hours, and when we called around noon, it was already ready for us. So you do not necessarily have to wait until 3 pm for your room. Maybe you can ask at check-in for one of the first rooms available?
