In room dining and food allergies

Has anybody had any experiences with in room dining and accommodating severe food allergies? Whats the process? Does it work out as well as sitting down in the restaurant?

1) It can be done.
2) But, selections are VERY limited.
3) You can talk over the phone with someone.
4) But, not as good as speaking face-to-face with the chef.
5) For alllergies, better to eat at the restaurant.

DS5 has a dairy allergy. We have never done in room dining with him, but next best thing - DH has picked up a bunch of food at resort CS and brought it back to the room a few times. The best places for this (where they were super helpful at the resort CS and made a bunch of dairy-free food for him were CBR and POFQ (worst by far CSR Pepper Market)

I had a great experience with room service and allergies at AKL. I had gotten sick from eating at a restaurant the previous evening and hadn't wanted to leave my room. Chef was able to make me a chicken noodle soup with toast and a berry sorbet. Honestly it was exceptionally well made and considering my allergies I was suppressed at how quick she was able to whip up a soup that they don't make in house. I think its really important to let them know about your allergies and to be understanding if it takes longer. If its something your trying to plan for a specific evening perhaps call and see if you can speak to chef in advance and come up with a planned time for the meal. Giving them the heads up with allergies always seems to work. I also found Sanaa and Boma amazing with food allergies. I can't speak for Jiko because thats where we both got sick and definatly won't ever be going back there. But Boma, Sanaa, room service chefs were awesome. I can't speak for counter service but my understanding is that it comes from the same kitchen as boma.
