For our upcoming trip we are looking to save a few pennies in a variety of areas. One thing we are doing like many other families is to bring a few things like cereal and breakfast breads or the morning. However, my husband is a Crossfit trainer/coach and primarily eats a Paleo diet. Needless to say, a typical breakfast for him is eggs, bacon, etc...

I'm looking for a couple different ideas so that he is getting enough and we don't end up buying a bunch of morning snacks in the parks.

I would take what he normally eats and have him heat it up in the food court. Or request a microwave for your room. Disney's resorts have a limited number of them for guest use. We did a super budget trip once and took breakfast bowls, breakfast burritos, pancakes for the little one and just heated them up. I am not a cold breakfast kind of person.

We also eat fairly clean (and crossfit).

What are his thoughts on bulletproof coffee? I kid I kid.

Hard boiled eggs, cured meats, Lara bars...

We are mostly-Paleo too, so I know it's tough! What about Lärabars? We love them, and they are perfect in a hurry with a piece of fruit! Not super delicious, but Egglands Best makes bags of hard boiled eggs. They are mostly tasteless, but filling nonetheless. In a pinch, the food court has cooked eggs and bacon, of course. $$$ but great to grab in a hurry.

Are you driving or flying? If driving you can take items to make scrabbled eggs or hard boiled eggs in the microwave at the food courts (depending on where you stay). They sell special containers that are specifically for the microwave.

They even have trays to make microwave bacon or buy the stuff that is precooked. I would also bring along a wide variety of nuts to include with meals or as snacks.

I do paleo. I am planning to stay on it as much as possible for the vacation (though I know I will not be perfect). I plan on ordering from a grocery and having a a few options available. Canned tuna, avocado, nuts, paleo-friendly lunch meat, fruit, raw carrots, plantain chips, Lara bars, dried fruit. They can be eaten in combination for breakfast or a snack if I need it. Coffee is a high priority for me so I plan to get a can of coconut cream and bring my vanilla from home. A scoop of cream in my coffee with a few drops of vanilla is perfect!

Thank you so much to everyone for the feedback. We will be flying from Minneapolis but will have a one day car rental at the beginning of the trip as he is visiting a crossfit box. Please keep the ideas flowing!

This sounds amazing! Coffee is his cheat currently. Straight out of the Keurig with lots of cream and agave to sweeten. Does anyone know what kind of coffee pots are in the rooms? We are staying at Caribbean Beach.

Ha! I had to go search on the internet to se what the Paleo diet was. Looks interesting, but very time consuming to make all the meals. Are you driving?

Looking at the guidelines, I would suggest grocery shopping on the way and picking up most of what you need there. Request a microwave from guest services asap to make sure one is available.

What may be easiest:

Boiled eggs
Salmon (can buy it already packaged and keep in fridge. Eat right from the package)
Tuna Fish

Research which restaurants have the closest food to your planned diet and make ADR's there. Sorry, wish I could be more help.

Hard boiled eggs (you can buy prepared hardboiled eggs in many grocery stores) and cubed ham or spam (canned ham, perhaps? Not sure if that's paleo friendly or not) if not, maybe beef jerky or turkey jerky? Would cubed or sliced cheese work for a protein choice?

Our family is mostly Paleo, although we do the best we can on trips.

When I travel, I try to pack Quest bars (or whatever protein bar of choice), jerky, nuts, fruit, GF seed crackers, etc. Avocado would be a good choice. Since you will be able to stop at the store, I would focus on some proteins that are decent cold - maybe some clean sandwich meat or even shrimp? We do eat some cheese, although I know that is not exactly Paleo.

Alternately, maybe he could just grab something in the food court while you guys get ready?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts! He is not strict Paleo but as most of you have said, he does his best. Just hoping to be as proactive as possible.

EPIC bars!! We love them. I plan to order a case or 2 for our trip. Does he do dairy? (wasn't sure if he was Paleo or Primal). There is a Whole Foods nearby from what I understand and they have some great organic, grass-fed yogurts. They have several kinds of sausage which are compliant so he could heat those up. I'm also planning to do breakfast in the room but we will have a condo with a kitchen so it will be easier. I'm also planning to get veggies and cut them up as well as fruit to carry with us. I think my kids would be sick eating park food 3 meals a day so we are going to aim to eat out about once a day. (Disney's kids meals are mostly appalling!) I mix avocado and tuna together and that is really portable. he could do it with GF crackers or just eat it. (I season it with dill and shallots but that would be challenging while traveling and it is ok plain). One of those short thermoses would be good to keep stuff cold at the parks.

If you have a car then stop by a store and pick up some stuff when you are down there. I don't know where you are staying but some of the rooms come with microwaves and others with full kitchens. You might be able to cook in the room. Good luck!
