Background:
I am going to Disney World with my brother and his family for Thanksgiving. They have a 12 and 7 year-old. We want to go to Jellyrolls one night. My sister-in-law is extremely protective. ;)

Originally, we had planned to use a Kids Club for our outing. However, since we won't be leaving to go out until 9:00 PM, my sister-in-law is balking. She feels uncomfortable starting our evening at 9:00 PM...

Questions:
With the ages of the children, would you recommend in-room babysitting, or a Kids' Club?

Any advice for my sister-in-law, that might help her feel better?

If we use in-room babysitting, can the babysitter take the kids to the pool? I've read that they often take the kids out of the room for walks, but never saw anyone report about pool use.

Thanks for any advice!!

I have two girls ages 5 and 8. We used the Sandcastle Club on two different occasions during our trip in June. The girls loved it, and I felt completely safe. They are in the hotel with Disney CM's. You are issued a beeper so that you can be reached in the event of an emergency. There are plenty of activities for the kids and more than one adult in the room at all times. There are also other kids for them to play with.

Personally, if I were to hire an in-room sitter, I would not feel safe if that person took my child out of the room. Also, in the room there is not much for the kids to do. Ultimately, your SIL must do what she is comfortable with. I can tell you that I was completely comfortable with the kids clubs.

My dd's love the kids clubs and ask to go every trip - for a "night to themselves" LOL.

I personally like the kids clubs because there are other kids to play with, tons of toys, crafts and other activities, movies and video games.

My girls favorite is the Neverland Club at the Poly followed closely by Simba's clubhouse at AKL. If your going to be at the boardwalk you could use the kids club at YC/BC or the Dolphin or if your staying at a Deluxe that has a kids club have them stay there for convenience.

Personally my kids would have been board with an evening in the room with a sitter. I think the sitters can take kids for a walk, to the playground etc but I am not sure they would do the pool. FWIW I would not be comfortable with a sitter taking my kids to the pool but that's just me :)

allears has a great section about traveling with kids incluidng reviews of the in-room sitters as well as the kids clubs. Maybe you could send a link to your sil.

I would use the kids club. The kids get to interact with other children, play games, are served dinner, etc. My youngest sister loved that place! She never went to a daycare and BEGGED to be left there on more than one occasion. When we were going to go to a long dinner or something, she loved it. They are very dependable and we have never had one lick of an issue.

I think the Kidsclub at the Boardwalk is closed? I may be wrong, this could be old info. But the B/Y club is open.

I want to give you some specific information from the Unofficial Guide (typos will be mine):

"In-Room baby-sitting. Three companies provide in-room sitting in Walt Disney Word ... They are Kid's Nite Out (a Kinder-Care company), All About Kids, and the Fairy Gomothers...Kid's Nite Out also serves hotels in the greater Orlando area, including downtown. All three provide sitters older than age 18 who are insured, bonded, and trained in CPR. Some sitters have advanced medical/first-aid trianing and/or education credentials. All sitters are screened, reference-checked, and police-checked...Many sitters arrive loaded with reading books, coloring books, and games. All three services offer bilingual sitters."

"Childcare centers. ...Services vary, but children generally can be left between 4:30 pm and midnight. Milk and cookies, and blankets and pillows are provided at all centers, and dinner is provided at most. Play is supervised but not organized, and toys, videos, and games are plentiful...Alll clubs accept reservations with credit card guarantee. Call the club directly ro reserve through Disney central reservations at (407) WDW-DINE. Most clubs require a 24-hour cancellation notice and levy a hefty penalty of $15 per child for no-shows. If you're staying in a Disney resort that doesn't offer a childcare club and you don't have a car, you're better off using in-room baby-sitting. Trying to take your child to a club in another hotel via Disney bus requires a 50-90 minute trip each way. By the time you have deposited your little one, it will almost be time to pick him up again. Child care clubs close at or before midnight. If you intend to stay out late, in-room baby-sitting is your best bet"

Here is the important information from above on in-room sitting: All three provide sitters older than age 18 who are insured, bonded, and trained in CPR. Some sitters have advanced medical/first-aid trianing and/or education credentials. All sitters are screened, reference-checked, and police-checked

And on kid clubs: If you're staying in a Disney resort that doesn't offer a childcare club and you don't have a car, you're better off using in-room baby-sitting. Trying to take your child to a club in another hotel via Disney bus requires a 50-90 minute trip each way. And Child care clubs close at or before midnight. If you intend to stay out late, in-room baby-sitting is your best bet

These things can make a HUGE difference on what your SIL would be more comfortable with and if you have the time to even use the kid club.

Other important information (rates not included b/c my info. is outdated):

Swimming is at sitter's discretion.

I think I read somewhere that in room sitters will take kids to the parks, etc. but will not take them to the pool (liability issues, I think) We have always used the Neverland Club at the Poly. (and have taken the kids there on WDW transportation, to boot) The kids have always loved Neverland, and every time, ask to go back!

You won't have much of an evening if you use the kids clubs. They close at 12.

In-room sitters, which we use all the time, don't take the kids to the pool. They will do arcade rooms, mini golf, the parks.

I have used Kids Nite Out 2 times and have been very satisfied with their service and the sitter. It's a nice option because my youngest is 3 and not old enough for the Kids Club. Kids Nite Out will ask you if you what time you want the kids in bed, they will make sure the kids brush their teeth. They ask for your permission to leave the room, I always say no.

My 2 older sons have used the Kids Club at the WL and enjoyed it as well.
