Hello hopeful new member here (if we pass ROFR).
Im hoping some of you great DVC veterans can help me decide the best way to go.
The basics: Our ideal vacation would be 55 pts at AKV. Most vacations we would choose would fall in the 40-60 pt range.
The problem: I doubt a bunch of 60 pt AKV resales will be listed anytime soon. Also, I dont want to buy over our needs and pay MFs for what we wont use. I know we can rent the excess, but I would prefer just meeting our needs.
My current solution: I spotted a 50 pt BWV and jumped at the opportunity. Were currently in ROFR.
Im very happy I had the chance to offer on the 50 pt BWV, and hope it goes through. But it seems like no matter how much time I spend reading the boards, theres more I didnt realize.
Since offering, the bad news I have figured out is: people do use the rent boards for transfers, but each member is limited to one per year. Coming up 5 points short suddenly becomes a big deal. Ive read about banking and borrowing, and Ive done vacation projections, and I see Im going to have a problem about every third year.
As small transfers are inconvenient, would my chances be better trying to rent one day from another member? And how easy would it be to attach that ressie to mine to avoid changing rooms for one day?
Ive also figured out some good news since offering: I can add-on 60 AKV pts, then resell the original BWV (Please correct me if Ive wrong). This option would cost me more per point, I would lose my closing costs and I would have to pay commission for the resale. Not cost efficient, but I could create my ideal contract.
Im considering the add-on solution, with a twist: adding 30 AKV pts, then reselling BWV, then using that money to add the second 30 pt AKV. This would allow me to avoid financing, give me points to book a vacation right away, and give us the flexibility to sell off one later in life, if we want to slow down. And if we decide to keep both, two might be handier for estate planning.
My practical side keeps poking me, and telling me the 50 pt BWV is a great contract. I can make do with standard views, at BWV and AKV. OKW sounds like a lovely resort and costs even less points. Transferring points isnt impossible just not likely. But the other side of me keeps saying but its Disney! Do I really want to make do, when I can have the magic? And really, whats the extra cost when spread out over all those years?
Anyway, advice would be appreciated.
I thank you in advance for your help - and apologize for the long post,
AndriaRose
