Professional internships run on a different schedule than the DCP does, especially after getting a phone interview.
If you are in progress, then you have made it through the system, and a person has looked or will be looking at your application.
From there you will have the opportunity for a phone screening - this is a general interview not necessarily related to your specific position. Here they screen for fit and general personality. From there, the recruiter can pass your information onto each respective team.
That's where things get a little tricky, because every team runs on its own schedule and has its own system for interviews.
My personal timeline:
September: Applied to a few
October: Phone Screen (this was linked to one of the applications, but applied to every one. So I did not have to rescreen for every potential position)
November: Applied for a few more last minute positions when I wasn't hearing about the first ones
December: 2 final round interviews with different teams. Received offer for 1
Some peoples timelines move much faster than that, and some move slower.
My biggest piece of advice is to apply for several positions that are related to each other - in your case various graphic or design internships. If you limit yourself to just one, then your chances are greatly reduced. In my applications, I went for 2 different sets - web/social media, and nonprofit/corporate citizenship since they both related to my degree and experience. Of the 8 or 9 I applied for, 3 never left In Submission, 2 made it to the final round, and the rest just sat In Progress.
Good luck!
