In pre-term labor? Please help...

Anyone know how to tell if the pain I'm feeling is contractions or just fatigue or gas? I've had lower back pain all day (I asked DH to massage my back and as soon as he touched it, I started to cry because it hurt so much). I'm having constant pain in my abdomen (lower left and right, as well as sides). No real tightening in my belly or relief, as in between contractions. The baby is still moving around. I just can't get comfortable or do anything to relieve the pain. I don't even want to get up to get the heating pad. I could just be very tired. I spent all day yesterday packing and went to a dinner party from hell. Today, I pretty much took it easy, but didn't do some packing and lifting. I'm due for a c-section at the end of November.

DH left about three hours ago for a 3-day business trip to Chicago and I'm alone with DD and our dog. I don't want to call the emergency room without being sure something real is going on. If I call my doctor, I know he'll say to go to the hospital; he's very conservative.

Thanks in advance.

Call the doctor - NOW! Not to alarm you, but I went into preterm labor and it felt like nasty back cramps. That time they were able to stop the labor.

Another time I experienced the same thing and I ended up miscarrying. You don't want to risk that.

Better safe than sorry. Hugs.

Please call the doctor right away!

You need to tell them about any severe pain even if it isn't labor!

Good luck!

If you are in so much pain you don't want to move, it's time for a doctor visit.

If it were just mild pain, I'd say go for a walk to see if that helps, or if it goes away.

But, since you are in so much pain, go get checked out. In fact, I'd rather you do that while you can still function instead of waiting until you can't with a daughter you have to take care of.

 I agree. Call the dr and see what he says. Another possibility could be that you have a UTI. I've had back pain with those. Please call your dr. though and heed his advice ::yes:: .

I'm going to go talk to my neighbor. We don't really talk to one another, but she's a nurse at the local hospital. Maybe she'll be able to tell me something.

CALL NOW. Your symptoms sound just like mine. I thought I was being wimpy, that I had just overdone it that day. I was in preterm labor and my son spent 28 days in the NICU. CALL NOW.

Please, don't feel silly, or like you are bothering them. That is why they are there. :grouphug:

Keep us updated. I hope it's nothing, but I would never take a chance it's not with a pregnant mom.

That might not be preterm labor but "in labor". If you get to a hospital and you are in labor they can give you drugs to stop it.
Anytime you have pain you need to be seen.

Add me to the "call the doctor" crowd! Please let us know what your neighbor says and I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Don't be silly - call! It's better than being on the news tomorrow having delivered your baby on the side of the highway tonight! :scared1:

I am a labor and delivery nurse and I say you need to go get checked now. I know that it is no fun to go to the hospital and sit there but the only way to tell is to get on the monitor and get checked. It is always better safe then sorry.

absolutely call your dr or head to the hospital to get checked. it might help to drink a lot of water...sometimes dehydration can affect you, even if you don't think you are dehydrated.

hope all is well...keep us posted!!!!

Spoke to the nurse next door and called my doctor. No one seems that alarmed. I'm still uncomfortable, but not in as much pain as when I posted before. I can walk around now, which is good.

As long as I don't have another episode tonight, the doctor just wants me to come into the office tomorrow to be checked out.

Thanks for all the comments. I wasn't really relying on the disboards, just needed a little push. I always downplay pain, but am also a bit of a hypchondriac, if that makes sense. It makes me unsure of what I'm really feeling.

Drink a glass of water and lay on your left side for a hour. That should help you if you are not in Labor.

Just please take care of yourself.
