In one day I talked to 2 people who have never...

When I was a child (10 or so) my parents took me to Disneyland.

The first time I stepped foot into Walt Disney World was in 1999 with 15 family memebers and I fell in love. Before that I had no concept of what WDW was I just knew I couldn't afford it as a college student. Oh if only I had known about the college program. I was very fortunate and my next trip was the following year 2000 for the millenium celebration.

Well, a few years later I was feeling the withdrawal. During that time I met my future husband. It was a second marriage for both of us and we had 3 children between us. (7, 18, and 22). Our first choice for our wedding was Hawaii, but somehow I stumbled onto Fairy Tale Weddings and all was set. I have to say though that at first my husband was skeptical. At 51 years of age he had never been to WDW before. I have to tell you by the end of our week long stay he was hooked. (We stayed at the BWV) So we have had three WDW trips in less than a year and I am scheduled to go back again in May for training for work.

Now, I will warn you right now that what I am about to say is selfish. I am glad that more people don't get it. It might make the lines way long. Although, from my experience of never going till I was 28. I think every child in America should get to go to WDW at least once while they are young. That is what truly makes it magical is seeing a big pair of eyes just staring in amazement at a character, a parade or the fireworks.

I would not trade my memories with my family for all the money in the world.

Just a couple of Disney “enlightenment” experiences I’ve had

In 2002 we had a getogether scheduled with about 12 family members. My mom was getting pumped to go but my step dad was saying nah, I'm not going, WDW’s for kids and it’s too expensive.

Mom talked her sister into going with her. Before the trip (she ‘d never been to WDW) she was sounding like my dad and adding, “I’m just going cause your mom asked me”. Fast forward to the first day/night there at Epcot for my birthday. As we’re walking out from seeeing Illuminations, she’s on her cell phone to my other aunt at home “This place is awesome! We’re definitely coming back here next year and you’re coming with us!” I just smiled and thought. Pixie dust strikes again J

This past December, our BIL and kids (18 months and 3 ) were with us on the above mentioned come back trip and the first day at the parks, he was stating “ I’m not a “park-er” we probably won’t bring the kids back; second day at the parks “Well, maybe when the kids are 13-14”; by the last day it was “We’ll bring em back, but when they’re out of strollers. Another smile, and I’m going to try to get him to bring the kids on our trip we’re planning for June 2005.

Now that we're DVC owners, I'll get my step dad down there someday and maybe have another magic moment.

Peace,
G4L

Being from California, most people have never been to WDW. They don't know what their missing.
I however don't know anyone who hasn't been to Disney Land. I'm sure most people think its just another version of DL. They have no idea!

When I got married in '96 my little brothers were 8 & 9. Everytime an ad for Disney World would come on my dad would tell them " I was going to take you to Disney World but I spent all my money on your sister's wedding."

He still has not been. I told my little brothers now 16 & 17 that I will take them when the youngest is out of high school.

I was trying to plan a girls get away trip and suggested WDW. One of my friends said that she could never go without her grandkids. That was about 5 years ago. They go to Branson and Gulf Shores all of the time but still haven't taken those grandkids to WDW.

I now live in a state with a very low income level, there are a lot of people who really just can't afford any kind of vacation much less a Disney one.

We never took any kind of vacation when I was growing up - we had NO money and my dad did a/c work so was not able to take off anyway. When I was working as an adult I used my vacation to visit family and sometimes friends. I really was not used to paying for hotels. I probably only took 3-4 real vacations in my 35 years of working.

One of the reasons that I bought DVC was to be a little kinder to myself and not just do everything the cheapest way. It's a way to force myself to stay at a really nice place.

arminnie - nice to see another Arkansan on the DIS! Where are you located? We are 50 miles north of Memphis right on the MS river.

I tend to run into a lot of people who do not understand my fascination with Disney. They just cannot seem to get why I keep wanting to go back. Personally I do not understand them. I just figure that they are a step below us on the evolutionary ladder. They just lack the mental capability to get it. Believe it or not, I actually feel pity for these people.

Then again maybe that is a good thing. I could not begin to imagine how busy the Magic Kingdom would be if everyone felt the same as we do.

A new credo: I do not discriminate based upon race, color, creed, sexual preferance or religion; but Disney? Well thats another matter.

P.S. My apoligies if anything above is found offensive. It is all in good fun.

I was trying to talk my friend into coming to OKW for a few days. Just a girls trip without the husbands. She DID NOT want to go. Said she really has no desire to go to WDW! I, frankly, did not know what to say. I CANNOT imagine anyone not wanting to go to WDW. It's beyond me. :scratchin

While suffering a case of Disneyitis with one of my coworkers around the water cooler one day, another coworker who has NEVER been made the comment "Disney World? Come on- We're Adults!" In a Creative Writing Course I took a few years ago, I wrote an entire essay on this very subject.

Now, my cousin and his wife-- on the total opposite end of the spectrum-- have been totally supportive of my fanaticism to the point that they made me Godmother to their son who was born on December 4, 2001, just one day short of Walt's 100th birthday. My cousin's wife even offered apologies for not being able to hold out for one more day. They and their 3 children will be part of our Grand Gathering in September 2005.

Welll, we are taking my wife's cousin with us to BWV and, at a young 55, she has never been. First we had her interested but after she accepted the invite, we sent her WDW photos and tidbits by e-mail every day for about six weeks. She is hooked and ready to go! :bounce:

All you've got left to do is get her on the DIS!! :teeth:

The first time I visited Disneyland, I discovered that the fellow driving one of the trams from the parking lot to the front gate had never been inside the park. Go figure.
