In need of opinions - thoughts? Update on 2

I would listen very sympathetically to everything your mother has to say, respond with neutral but kind comments like, "that's really hard," and then I'd stick to my guns and say, "I promised Susie that we would go to WDW, and I need to keep that promise." More or continued objections would be met with the same sympathetic noises and sticking to guns. Hopefully, she would give up after one or two cycles, but if not, on the third I would say, "I promised Susie that we would go to WDW, and I need to keep that promise. I know we would both be disappointed if we couldn't spend most of our trip with you. I hope you still want us to spend the rest of the time with you at your house?"

My parents and parents in law are just wonderful, but I do have an older relative who is a very much like this, so I know how hard it can be. Good luck!

Just a quick update: I had a nice calm talk with my Mom and told her that I had promised my DD that she could go for one day (with the stay overnight) and now that it was "out there" I had to stick with it. She understood and I told her the rest of the time would be spent hanging out with them at the house. I think it's a pretty fair deal all around.

I was dreading that phone call, but she was good about it this time!!

Yay! I am so glad for you and your DD....hope you have a wonderful time in WDW and a great time visiting your parents....maybe you and DD can pick up a small souvenir to bring to your parents from WDW just to let them know you were thinking of them while you were there....nothing big, it's the thought that counts....

Good for you - I am glad it will work out for you all! :goodvibes

Glad it worked out. My roommate from college was in town over Christmas for a few days. She and her family were at our house less than 2 hours and during that time each of them got a call from their parents. It was her idea to come to our house for a visit, but her mom tends to get pouty when she visits other people.

If we were way down in Miami and it was a distance thing, I'd have that excuse, but we are literally a hour & 1/2 away at the most.

Ummm, We've gone from Ft. Lauderdale to Disney, stayed till they closed (at midnight) and then attempted to drive back. LOL, the fog was horrible, we were both falling asleep, I think we made it to Kissimee before getting a room. We have driven from FL many times, stayed the night and gone back the next night. Maybe we're just nuts!

I would definitly go! My dh literally cannot be in the state of Florida and not go to Disney. Fortunatly my in-laws understand his obsession and don't complain. The only time we haven't made the drive was when we both got the flu right after each other and by the time we were well vaction was over. If I hadn't been pg I still would have gone, flu or no flu!
