I just bought myself a pair of Toms (Bobs actually - Going cheap my first time around ) and I really want to customize them. I can't afford the A-mazing ones I've seen on Etsy, so I want to try it myself. But.... I'm a little low on artistic ability too

So I was hoping one of you clever people could give me a few ideas on how to do my own custom Toms (Bobs) with little talent. I'm leaning towards either a panda bear, a buddha (something asain), Snow White, koi fish, or swallows. I really love the idea of a cherry blossom tree, but I don't know if that would be easy, or to hard.
Do you think a stencil world work?? Also, do I have to use paint, or are there any type of paint pens that I could use?? I'm thinking that would be easier for a first timer like myself.
Also - I ordered a pair of black canvas, but couldn't get them in the right size, so I have to take them back to the store once they come in (they wouldn't honor the discount code I had in the store) and I can get any other color that would work with the design I settle on.

Thoughts and ideas appreciated!!!!

I've painted on several backpacks and I've used regular acrylic paint by Americana. You find it at Hobby Lobby. Find a coloring book and resize it to fit your shoes. If the shoes are white you can turn your copy over on the back side and rub a pencil all over it. Tape it down on the with the pencil side facing the shoe. Begin to trace your image, when done you will have your pattern on your shoe. You then just paint it in like you are coloring in a coloring book. I will try and send some pictures. I just did Dopey from Snow White. Good luck! ;o)

Let me see if I understand how to do this (I'm a visual learner! lol). You take the side of a pencil, and go all over the coloring page. Then, flip it over, put the pencil side down on the shoe, and trace the outline? Is that right??

And your Dopey is AMAZING! I would really love to do a Snow White - I have a SW tat on my inner wrist that is really simple, so I was thinking of doing that.... Just have to find a drawing of it online or something, and print it out.

Thanks again for your help!!

Yes that is right..just make sure you have colored in the back side well where there are lines. Put something hard in the inside of the shoe so that you can press down good when tracing. Snow White is pretty simple and there are a lot of google images. Would love to see it when you've got it done. Good luck! :)

Here it is!!! This is a Koi fish my husband did. We decided it would be a better idea for him to try it since he has some artistic ability, and I have NONE! lol
