I'll be turning over the keys and walking away from 56 years of my life.. My son-in-law asked me if I wanted to go over to the house for one last time last night and I told him no..

I know I've made the right decision - I'm satisfied with the money I'll be walking away with - I have detached myself emotionally from the house - so why does my stomach feel like I'm in a little tiny row boat out in the middle of a great big ocean? :confused3

Wish me luck.. Maybe I should take a "barf" bag with me.. LOL

Awww, I feel for you! 56 years - that house holds a lifetime of memories for you, if you're already emotionally detached I'd be amazed! Sometimes I drive by the house I grew up in when I am in the area and I get knots in my stomach even still to this day.

Congratulations on closing one chapter of your life and starting new ones! :goodvibes

Oh....my Mom went thru the same thing after my died passed away & she sold the house that he built with his own two hands. It wasn't for happy reasons that she sold....it was for very sad reasons. That's probably what you're going thru now & I'm so very sorry. It's always hard to leave the house you lived in for many years but you have more reason to feel sad. It's okay what you're feeling but know that a new life is waiting for you to be LIVED!

C.Ann -- I feel so bad for you right now!

Just try and get yourself in the mind set that you aren't walking away from 56 years of your life...you're just walking away from a house. The memories are always going to stay in your heart (all 56 years if them).

Hugs to you,
Calypso

Awe- sweetie. Take a box of tissues and a big :grouphug
your in my thoughts good luck!

Hugs to you. You've had quite a year. I think you were very smart to wait a while before selling. I know a few widows who made very quick decisions about selling their houses (usually when pressured by their kids) and regretted them later. You've had time to consider everything, so this will probably turn out to be a great decision.

Hugs, C.Ann. Closing old doors and opening new ones is always a little difficult. :grouphug:

I'm back - and all is good! :thumbsup2 (Well - except for a bad case of writer's cramp.. "Sign here"; sign there; write your social security number here; print your name there and sign it here.."

The new owner is the nicest woman.. Probably early to mid forties.. Went on and on about what a great job my son-in-law did.. It will be her and her golden retriever living there.. :) She said she'll forward all my mail to me until the Post Office catches up with the address change I filled out.. She asked if I would send her photos from when my Dad was building the house and the changes throughout the years and I promised that I would as soon as I dig them out of the attic here and make copies..

She was worried that I would be upset at the closing, but I wasn't - and felt even better once I met her.. She assured me that she would take good care of the house and love it as much as we all have over the years..

So......when does the next bus leave for Foxwood? :teeth:

Seriously though - it went fine - I feel great and I am SO glad that I used my dear friend as an agent.. Everything worked out perfectly.. (Oh - and I was charged less than the going rate for the real estate commission! :) )

Today is the first day of the "rest" of my life.. :goodvibes

You're at a new beginning. Exciting and terrifying all at once.

New beginnings are both exciting and scary. Sounds like you have a great support system and are ready for a new path. If attitude counts then you should do wonderfully.

Good Luck

Congratulations, CAnn! It is wonderful that you know you've left the house in good hands. Now you can take your happy memories on to your next adventure and make more! You've waited a long time for the house to be ready, now you've got the freedom that a nice chunk of cash can buy!

Congrats on a new begining. The memories will always be there!

Soo..where should we go, so I can help you spend your money LOL?
