My DD 11 is having an ingrowing toe nail procedure where they cut the toe nail so it doesn't grow again. Has anyone else had this and can tell me how long it takes to heal. We are off to Disneyland Paris 12 days after it will be carried out and there will be a lot of walking around the parks (although not as much as WDW!!!) so hoping this will be ok!!!

Many thanks for your help on this.

Susan

Are they removing the nail? When my sister was younger she had 3 nails removed because of them becoming ingrown. For her, the healing process was very painful. She had to soak her foot a couple of times a day and couldn't wear shoes for a while. Maybe they are doing something different for your DD. Good luck!

I think it is half the nail. Apparently the whole nail is a lot worse!!! The poor thing is going to miss her birthday. We were going to the cinema to see Wallace & Grommit and the Wererabbit. (I think this is out in US too). I bought the bunnyears for the girls to wear in the theatre. Hopefully we can go the week after before we go to Disneyland Paris.

Many thanks for you good wishes.

Susan (and am wearing the bunny ears!)

Hello,
I have had several of these and after about 24-48 hours things are pretty normal again. There will be a little soreness and aggrevation but she should be back to normal in a couple of days. Not to provide a whole lot of details but the numbing of the toe was the worst part about the whole experience.

I agree about the numbing of the toe. Is the area infected? If so, that may mean it will take a few extra days to heal, but you should still be fine for your trip. Let her know that she is going to have almost immediate relief from the pain of the ingrown toenail. My nail has grown back and other than a slight scar on the side of my toe you would never know that I had anything done.

One of my sons has had this done twice. First he got an injection on each side of the toe to numb it. Then the dr took some thing to cut the toenail. and then they stuck a wooden stick into the hole with medicine on it to prevent it from happening again.
My son thought the procedure was pretty painful and it certainly did look to be so.

DH had this done a few years ago. They did something to the sides of his toes so maybe 1/8" on either side of his toe was effected. He had to soak for a couple days in Epsom salts but then he was fine.

Thanks for all of these. It seems like the first couple of days she will be out of action in case the toe gets "trod on" but it seems like it seems good news for our vacation.

The toe is currently infected has been for a while even though the worse of it was treated by antibiotics but seems to be coming back.

Sorry this thread is so gross!

It's not gross unless you post a link to that awful food fungus medicine commercial. Like I really need to see a talking infected toenail. Ewwww....

I had an ingrown and the docter didn't cut any of the toe nail off. He numbed it and fixed the problem. Haven't ahd any trouble since. For me the healing process was very simple. I just put stuff on it everyday and wrapped it. I could do anything with it. I think the cream and wrap thing is fairly new.

I had a toenail removed and was in a ton of pain for quite awhile. Good luck to her.

About 15 yrs ago I had both nails done with partial removal, about a year later had a full removal on one of the nail. If I remember correctly the partial I was off my foot for a day, and limped for a couple, when I had the full it was alot worse, it would a good 3 or 4 days before I could really wear shoes.

A couple of words of warning, about a year ago the nail that was partial had an issue and I went to a different foot doctor. He was very surpirsed that I had had a full removal, he said that very rarely ever do those any more. Make sure if a partial is possible that you do that, the partial nail removal you can't even tell it occured, the full is very obvious that it occured

You might also want to check with your doctor about return visits, I seem to recall that I had a couple of return visits over the 2 weeks after, then another about a month, so hopefully those won't conflict.

i have had both big toe nails removed
the numbing hurts as they have put the needle in faily deep i had alot of bruising
after its numb its nothing
they can oull the whole nail out or cut the side and then they acid the root so it wont grow back make sure the doctor puts alot of stuff on before the banage or it will stick and hurt REALLY bad when you take it off
good luck

Thanks again.

Kelly, do you remember how long you were out of action for? As we are really hoping this will not spoil our Disneyland Paris trip.

Thanks

Susan
