Let me ask you all a simple question. If you were buying or renting a place, and one place had 300 more square feet than the other, would you even consider the the smaller one? What if the smaller one cost more?

Anyone who plans a long stay ( lets say,12 days or more) might give this a lot of thought!

You know and I know that DVC just decided to give less and charge more when they built the newer resorts. They could have made the other resort rooms as big as OKW. They could have charged fewer points. They went for the money instead. I guess, as a stockholder and an OKW owner, thats not all bad.

Sure would!!! Myself and many others did just that when both OKW and BWV were available for sale at the same time and chose to buy BWV rather than OKW. Many people have also made this choice several times and have added on at BWV, BCV or VWL over OKW. To some the size is important to others location and amenities are much more important.
Different strokes for different folks!

I guess you're looking to rile folks up with this one....and I'm sure you will be successful! :)

First off, in answer to your question, yes I'd rent the smaller space if it was in a better location or if I liked its surrounding area a lot better.

And to follow your logic, then you'd really be much better off renting off-site accommodations when you go to WDW. After all, you can certainly get larger accommodations much cheaper than DVC that way.

I don't disagree that Disney made the OKW units larger and then discovered that it is more efficient to build "hotel style" accommodations than condo style. As you said, just a business decision that thousands of people have ratified by purchasing new contracts at BWV, VWL, BCV and now SSR.

I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. And I don't think that anyone who loves their DVC home needs to "be defended".

They're all good.:)

Illuminations = 9pm

In my bed at a BWV or BCV = 9:30pm

Location = PRICELESS

I love OKW, but I refuse to give this thread creedence, since it appears it was started just to start a fight. Each of us chose our location for a specific reason. If it is right for us, it shouldn't matter to anyone else.

I live in a lovely home that is about a half an hour commute from where I work. I love my neighborhood and I really like my house.

I could live much closer to work - but I would pay more for a much smaller house.

I could also buy a much bigger, fancier place - and hour or so out from the city.

By your logic, no one should live in Manhattan - the cost per square foot is unreasonable. My cousin does, and loves it. Everyone should live in Valley City, North Dakota - where my sister owns a 4,000 square foot Victorian bought for less than $80,000 six months ago - and loves it.

I don't have problems with OKW defenders - or BWV defenders, or VWL defenders or HH defenders or VB defenders. When someone has diss'd OKW, feel free to gloat about the large rooms and low point cost. I do have a problem with people who feel a need to go on the offensive and in the process trash the other resorts or other members for their "poor" choices.

Well said. These kinds of threads lately are getting old. As someone said, people choose a home resort for many different reasons....cost and location are only two. It's a very personal decision; who are we to say one is "better" over the other?

There's a debate board and I believe that's where this belongs.

Each DVC resort was planned to appeal to a different group - DVC is very, very good at what they do -

Now that I have seem the new SSR (thanks Doc) - oh yes - they will definitely sell - that location next to DD - will appeal to the younger crowds that want to go to PI every night and be able to walk back to their rooms. It will also appeal to golfers. Marriott has been appealing to golfers so that really will sell. They might get some discount or free golfs like the Marriott does. But I doubt it - DVC sells without that kind of stuff.

I am surprise at how small it will be - I thought if the first part sold that they would expand across the entire property - but Doc's information does not suggest that will be the case.

I happen to love all the DVC resorts - they are all great and love staying in all of them - each at different times.

Hey even Rich has admitted staying at BWV - complainted about it - but the location of the Epcot resorts can not be beat.

for short quick trips - then BCV or BWV when you are only going to EPcot or Studios - the same for VWL when your main park will be MK. I am sure that SSR will appeal to both party goers and shoppers for their trips.

I no longer try to go to WDW and do everything - one or two parks - some DD and relaxing - enjoy life while you can!!!

I don't particularly care for the fact that every time the OKW argument arises, it is done in a condescending manner. It's insulting to anyone who bought elsewhere for someone else to even remotely question WHY they bought there. And why do you all care so much? It's not as if anyone here is any better than anyone else or any one resort is any better than the others.

Why do you live where you live?
Why do you drive that car that you drive?
Why do you work where you work?
Why do you send your kids to THAT school?
Why do you go to Disney EVERY year(LOL-maybe that's a little too harsh)?

Who is anyone to question anyone else as to their very personal choices. And home resort is a very personal choice. I bought where I bought because I like it for specific reasons that you may not. I don't dislike OKW, it's just not my cup of tea. Big deal. All this "other than OKW" resort bashing is rediculous. Let's talk about something else. Please.

Sheri

P.S. Let it be noted that I usually just pass these threads over and don't usually give them much thought, much less respond to them, but it's continually like beating a dead horse. Give it up, already.

We've stayed at all the DVC resorts and all I can say is that they have all been plenty big enough for DW and I. We've never walked into our room and started singing "It's a small world after all".

Something Fruedian about size arguements (little joke - oh oh there I go again! No pun intended)

OK I was trying real hard to just let this thread pass but TwingleMum's post was just too funny.

So like RMD I'll stand up and applaud

Here are the current results of the recent poll I conducted asking for your pick for a theoretical next purchase. (Sorry, I don't know a good way to format this data).

If course this is far from scientific, but it's interesting how BWV and OKW came out in a dead heat. It kinda shows a nice even spread of interest across a variety of properties, with the more established WDW resorts in strongly.

Best news, here is ..... All of our picks are winners!

Beach Club Villas 29 19.73%
Boardwalk Villas 38 25.85%
Hilton Head 12 8.16%
Old Key West 38 25.85%
Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa 6 4.08%
Vero Beach 6 4.08%
Villas at Wilderness Lodge 16 10.88%
Non-DVC Timeshare 2 1.36%
