In case you didn't already read this...

We've been following this closely since this is only little over and hour and a half away. Ft Hood is an amazing compound. Over 100K people out of which 50K are soldiers. It's a city unto itself. We have close friends who work on base and live off base. Luckily, they were both home that day.

So tragic that it happens overseas, let alone here in our own country.

Mark, I have a friend who's son is a pilot, stationed there...I used to babysit this guy, so, needless to say, I was glued to the tv. He's fine. They had his whole unit on lockdown, for their safety. Very sad day for our country. :sad1:

I am however, proud of the woman who took him down, great courage! :thumbsup2

Breaking news here in Orlando.....

Shots fired in a Downtown office building, up to 8 people shot, 4 are "code red trauma" whatever that means.

Whats going on? :sad2:

We've got a nation of scared, angry people. I think so many are angry about the recession, civil rights, this LONG war we're in...their afraid of our nations future, their family's future....alot of fear right now.:confused3

Scared, frustrated, not knowing how to react or what to do, seems to bring violence out in some. And if you are fragile to begin with, listening to rabblerousing types on the radio or TV brings more anger and frustration.

I abhor violence, and am shocked by the everyday level of it. Arguments in public, yelling at children in public, road rage (even in my little town in Ohio I had to report to 911 twice in one week because people actually got out of their cars and were menacing each other)

At my daughter's HS two girls were suspended for fighting. She was even egged on in gym class over something trite, fortunately she held her ground and refused to get dragged into a fight.

These two incidents have taken precious lives, damaged peoples' bodies, and who knows the long term mental health issues of the survivors. Such a sad time.
