In and Out in a Day

Graduation was a BUST!!! It was cold and rainy (we traveled to Lincoln on Wednesday in snow - yep - almost 3") and they cancelled it. Man oh man there were some irate parents and graduates. It was appaling what this University did. Doug and I really felt cheated. There were so many things that could have been done to make this situation better and the UN did NOTHING! We all went to the indoors practice field and they corraled them like cattle to go through and get their diplomas. No pictures no nothing. It is what it is and we can't change it but what a total disgrace. We got nothing!!!

We went out to dinner after and that was nice. But I felt bad for everyone that had driven hours to get there and didn't really even see him get his diploma. What a shame.

Stephanie ran the half marathon yesterday and we were able to see her about 1/2 way and then into the stadium for the finish. I was so proud of her.

Make it a great day!!

First.........Congrats Stephanie!

Now, I cannot understand that graduation fiasco :furious: These students worked so hard and the University basically tossed hem out the door. What a shame! I would not let this go Ellen. You cannot change Mathews special day but the dean neand to know that this is not acceptable.

Today, I woke up with a bad headache and a sore throat. Made it all the way in to work. Turned on my computer and sat there for 10 minutes before realising that I was not going to make it all the way to the end of the day.

So, I spent the next 3 hours cancelling meetings and clearing out emails!!! 3 hours!! O.M.G. I was definitely operating at sub-optimum pace today.

Came home and got into my pyjamas and into bed. Gonna have a super early night tonight!

Oh Poor you! Make sur you wait until you are well to go back to work, Pio. Yu really got your socks knocked off the last time you were ill and it lasted forever. Invest a little time in yourself so that you get well fast!

Oh, Ellen! That is horrible!!! There's no excuse for a graduation like that! There should have been contingency plans in place! I agree with Nancy that you shouldn't let this go! You need to complain to the dean, and all the way up to the President, if you have to. This should never be allowed to happen again!

PIO - Please take care of yourself. Work will still be there when you are well.

Marilyn - I hope these new meds can help take care of you!

Today I'm making a run to the library, the grocery store and then home! Dinner tonight will be spaghetti with red sauce, garlic bread and big green salad.

Kathy- it's good to see you here. It's not the same without you!

PIO- feel better!

Ellen- that's disappointing about the graduation. I'm glad you all got to spend time together though.

Our two week stretch of fantastic weather is about to come to an end so I'm off to enjoy the sunshine aka yard work. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Thanks everyone.

I went into work for the morning and kept going until just past lunch time. Not that I had lunch or anything.

On one hand, everyone was telling me to go home. On the other, they were all asking me to get stuff done before I went. :faint:

Thankfully, I don't go into work on Thursdays!!

Nancy - Hope you have a Kady/Nana day. :flower3:

Glynis - Hope your Eagle Court of Honour went well and that you made it home for TS!

Marilyn - How's the knee? Hope the meds are helping.

Ellen - Glad you're back on the internet. That's not a good graduation at all!
Has the university issued any statement or anything as to whether they will do a re-run?

Aussie Gamers?? No.....no such thing at all. :rolleyes1

I hope your new Hay Day neighbours are nice. :thumbsup2

They are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not coordinated to navigate back and forth between FB and my phone, but Marisa is and Holy Moly! She is a firecracker with those ladies! She told me they will pull over to the side of the road if a trade needs to take place and they are driving :thumbsup2 We are talking dedicated!

We have church this afternoon, and then an Eagle Court of Honor for some neighbor boys. Jacob has been asked to help in a presentation, so that's how we'll spend our evening.

How did teh ceremony go?

Thanks everyone.

I pulled the pin at 1.30 pm after someone told me by email to go home and then called me up to ask one last favour.

PIO- it really is awful, you're sick and folks say what sounds good bu thtey really don't mean it! :beach:GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Kathy, good to see you! I am glad that things are looking better.

PIO, feel better

Ellen, I can't believe that about graduation! How could they have no contingency plan? I work at a University and we have a sunny and an inclement weather space booked for Commencement each year. Ugh!

Robin, totally off topic question for you: do you know which beaches on the outer Cape are still inaccessible from the winter storms? We are coming out for some long weekends soon. I am especially wondeiring about the stairs down to Nauset and Marconi. I have a place off Cahoon Hollow booked for the last week in August so any info on there would be good too. Thanks!

Glynis, I hope the Eagle Scout ceremony went well.

Marilyn, I hope you are feeling better today.

WFD: grilled or baked eggplant rollatini (depending on whether it is raining at dinnertime) with a pesto-goat cheese stuffing, arugula salad, and crusty bread.

Becky- nauset light and Marconi stairs are still out. I would expect Marconi to be fixed first because of the much larger parking lot. The park will be depending very heavily, it got hit very hard by the budget cuts, so I'm assuming Marconi will be ready to go soon. I'm not sure about cahoon hallow, that's town funded so they don't have quite the same funding but nothing will keep wellfleetions from there beach so I'm sure there is a well worn path again. The waves came up to parking lot at the beachcomber. A side note, I drove by a restaurant in Orleans the other day and thought of you. It's called Abba and is Thai and Israeli fusion. A little bit upscale so I haven't been in years but I think you would really enjoy it. Feel free to ask me any outer cape questions.

Morning, everyone! It's been a rainy few days here, but today should be sunny and warm! Looking forward to it! The rain has been kind of nice, though. My lawn sure appreciates it!

School is winding down, here, so things are moving quickly. The kids are all doing end of year projects, studying for finals, etc. Looks like everyone will pass everything! Hooray! It was touch and go with Leslie for a while!

Not sure about dinner, tonight. Gotta see what I have in the pantry and freezer.

Have a great day, everyone!

Good morning all,

Wow, what a week. I keep thinking it is going to slow down, but so far it just isn't happening. I'm not complaining as I would rather be busy than looking for something to do, but it sure interferes with my fun time with all of you.

Thanks for all of your comments about Graduation. I have written letter to the Dean and to Chancellor Perlleman. There is rumor that they are talking about doing a rerun. REALLY!!!??? There is NO WAY 1700 kids from 44 states and 36 countries would come back for that. Commencement is usally held in the Devany Center but it was being remolded for the Volleyball team. But there were other places that could have been used. Maybe not as a whole, but each college has their own Dean and could have been put at other venues. It is just such a shame. I still get angry every time I think about it. Like Doug says, "I just feel so cheated".

PIO ~ Rest and take care of yourself. I hate to see you sick again.

Nan ~ So glad you and Kady had a good time. I understand Buddy so well. Doug is the exact same way, he hates to see the babies grow up.

Glynis ~ How is Leslie doing? I think of her often. I bet you are glad school is winding down. As Ethan and I were headed to school this morning we were counting the days till summer vacation - 11 days left here. They get out May 23rd. He has a full summer though with ball, wrestling, golf and tennis. They don't all run at the same time - each is just 4 weeks, once a week. But it will keep him busy.

Robin ~ It just breaks my heart to think of all of the devistation you have had. I hope they can rebuild before summer. I know you depend on the tourists. Hang in there.

Becky ~ I just love eggplant. Have you posted your recipe before? If not could you please post it for me. I am always looking for new ways to cook it.
Thanks, I agree. But this is the first year they haven't had the Devany Center for Graduation. It is always held inside. This was the first year they had to move it. But they really screwed up with no rain/ cold plan. There are some very mad and angry parents. And even the Alumni are complaining now. I really think the realize how they messed up but there really isn't anything they can do at this point. I just wish it hadn't been the year my boy graduated.

Marilyn ~ How's the knees holding up?

Kat ~ Am thinking of you my friend. Hang in there!!

We have had some nice rains this week. We so need it. But now the sun really needs to shine. There is only about 35% of the corn crop planted. That is so not good.

I become a golf widow tonight. This is the first night of Men's night at the Country Club. So I am on my own and because it is just me:

WFDT ~ Egg Sandwich (I can't wait), chips and sweet tea. Steak and baked potato for Doug.

Make it a great day.

The knee has it's good days and bad days. Have to call the ortho and get an order for an MRI then go see him.

Going to be a busy couple of days. As usual I left a project until the last minute and it has to be done by Saturday morning. :sad2: I was up until 2am cutting out a bajillon letters on my Cri-Cut and tonight I have to get them put onto tag-board football jerseys. I was smart this time and actually made a template with the exact words so all I have to do is position it, glue the letters and slap them on.:woohoo:

Friday night!

Just a quick check-in. I made it through the week. STarted to feel better yesterday and managed to spend a full day at work today. YAY!!

Ellen- you have every right in the world to feel cheated. You were! I think that even if teh graduates are okay with an lousy arrangement (and i rather doubt they were) parents and family are not. Family invests a lot in the success of their students, and there needs to be a ceremony, a real ceremony, to make the achievement. The fact that the university offered a "do over" suggests that they have absolutely no idea what the ceremony actually means. :sad1:

Marilyn- I feel so badly that you experience that kind of pain. I cannot imagine how you keep your schedule, ( I would be in a coma) and manage it.

PIO- glad you are starting to feel better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tinight Buddy has a stag to attend. He used to go to all of them but in the past several years, he usually buys tickets but comes home (old age?????). But his bosses son is getting married so a group of the "older guys" are going together so i am home alone tonight. I am not complaining!!!!!!!!!! I have not had any alone time in months! Buddy gets it all of the time because between school, book club, Relay for Life, dinner with the girls, the movies, ..............:rotfl:Oh dear.................now I sound like the time I whined I don't vacation much, and Marisa ticked off all of my get-a-ways that took place while Buddy stayed home.:confused3 Oh well, I am still going to try to figure out why I absolutely need an additional trip this summer.....I figure that tractor should add up to something, even though he said I gave him a hard time about it :snooty:

Have a great day All! And if I miss anyone, have a lovely Mother's Day!

Morning, all! It's absolutely gorgeous here today! My lilacs are blooming and the fragrance is intoxicating!!! Its only going to get nicer all weekend long! Hooray!!!

Tonight is our church's annual Father's and Son's campout. So, Alan will take Jacob and Timmy with him. Leslie and Mary have a "late night" birthday/pajama party until 10:00, so they are taken care of. That leaves Katie and me. We are thinking maybe we'll go spend the evening at Barnes and Noble and do some browsing! We love to do that, and don't get to, a lot. When we're hungry we'll either grab something from the Starbucks cafe inside the store, or find someplace to eat. Just some one on one time!

Tomorrow, Alan and the kids are taking me out all day long! I have no idea what they are planning, but it should be interesting!

Have a great day, everyone! And a very happy Mother's day to all my favorite DIS people!!!

Hello everyone and Happy Friday!

Robin, thanks for the feedback. I figured there was still a lot of work to be done. And thanks for the restaurant recommendation! I will check it out. Right now my favorite is Mac's Shack in Wellfleet. I am going there for my birthday next weekend. I also want to try dinner at PB Boulangerie and Eat at Adrians this spring.

Happy Mother's Day to the WFD ladies!

Ellen- it's hard to see ( but very impressive) what the ocean can do, but it's a completely normal process that has been happening since the cape was formed and will continue to happen until it ultimately disappears

Nancy- enjoy your night alone!

Glynis- I can't wait to here about the day they have planned for you.

Becky- everyone lives macs, they've really become quite a business. I should know more about the beach access timeline soon, I'll let you know.

Dinner tonight is yet another attempt at pad Thai. I'm determined to get it right at some point.
