It is usually easy to get a Kidani savanna view 1BR in June at 7-months out. Jambo savanna view is also often open but does have a risk of having some days filled in June before 7-months out. And to which is better (assuming covid restrictions are lifted which currently make Kidani the choice because of too many things being closed in Jambo):
1. As to the rooms, Kidani 1BRs are significantly better than Jambo's. Kidani 1BR is about 100 sq larger, has two bathrooms to Jambo's one, the master bath at Kidani is connected to the master bedroom and has separate tub and shower while at Jambo the bathroom is across a hallway from the master bedroom which hallway can be seen from the living room and the bathroom has a combined tub and shower and it is a very high step over the side of the tub to get into the shower (older members with knee problems should probably avoid Jambo), and Kidani has significantly more closet space,
2. All Jambo savanna view 1BRs are on fifth floor, at Kidani they are on all floors with rooms, 2 through 5. If you like the chance of getting lower floor, more direct views, of animals, Kidani is the choice.
3. As to savannas, Arusha in the center of Jambo is very good but Sunset, that serves most of Kidani (and also west side of Jambo) is also very good. In any event, if you get Kidani, request Sunset savanna view, because Pembe Savanna is second-rate to any others. (no giraffes or zebras).
4. Pools: the Jambo pool is larger and has far more places to find shade. However, Kidani has the much longer slide and an excellent kids water play area. and more places around the bar to sit under the roof
5. Jambo has the larger and more impressive lobby, although Kidani's is fine, and Jambo has the much larger and better store.
6. Jambo has three restaurants, Jiko, an excellent but expensive (even for Disney) table service restaurant, Boma, one of the best buffet restaurants at WDW, and Mara, a very good counter service restaurant with lots of seating including tables outside not far from the pool area. Kidani has only one restaurant, Sanaa, a very good table service restaurant that costs significantly less than Jiko. If to be close to the most restaurants, particularly a counter service, is a major consideration, then Jambo may be the choice. You can go from one building to the other, but front door to front door is about 1/2 mile -- there is a bus that runs throughout the day and evening between the front entrances of the two buildings (and note again that I am taking about a time without covid restrictions).
7. Busses to parks typically run Kidani to Jambo to the park except that MK often has separate buses from each building during mornings and sometimes nightly rush times. Busses to Disney Springs are usually Jambo to Kidani to DS.
8. Parking: if you have a car, Jambo has a large lot across the street from the front entrance and distance to building can be short or long depending on where you can find a place to park. Kidani's parking is on the first floor under the busilding (with a small number of spaces just outside the building) and runs almost throughout the entire building. With three elevators along each of the two wings at Kidani, you can usually find a parking space that is fairy close to your room no matter where it is located (also do not request "close to an elevator" for room location without naming the particular elevator; every room in Kidani is considered to be close to an elevator).
9. Building Length. The u-shaped Jambo building is quite long from end-to end. Many have pointed out how very long the walk can be from lobby to room at BWV. Lobby to an end room at Jambo is longer. Nevertheless, Jambo is an easy walk-in-the-park compared to Kidani. From one end of Kidani to the other is about 2/3 of a mile, making Kidani one of the longest single hotel buildings in the world (meaning on earth, not just at WDW). Walk down the hallway from room near end of the north wing to the lobby and bus station can easily take 10 minutes or more with kids in tow. As a result, huge numbers make the mistake of requesting a room "near the lobby." The mistake is not knowing that huge numbers do so, and thus there is a high risk the request will not be met, and when the resort cannot meet your location request, it provides any available room, which at Kidani often means getting a room very far form the lobby. Better requests for Kidani: "near the Timon elevator" if you want to be closest to the bus station on the south wing (the front of the building faces west) and not far from the lobby; "close to the Rafiki elevator" if you want to be not far from the lobby on the north wing and closest to the pool.
