My husband and I were on our 3rd trip together to WDW over Memorial Day weekend. Yesterday (Thursday) was our last day there. We stayed 3 nights at AKL and then rented DVC points for a WLV studio for the last three nights. Loved it there and also loved our stay last year on rented points at the BWV... So we were kind of familiar with how DVC works, but we decided to drop into the DVC sales center after lunch on the Boardwalk just to "get some information." Well, 4 hours later, after a lengthy meeting with Darren (Sales rep) and a lot of discussion, we signed the papers! We are now the proud owners of 300 points at BCV!

I am excited, but definitely having the "did we do the right thing" anxiety. I know the benefits, but I guess I am wondering if we should have looked into resale possibilities. With DVC's current sales push, they are offering points for $74 per point (its $84 per point, but they give you a year's points that you then "sell back" to them at $10 per point, thereby lowering your overall price). Can anyone comment on benefits of resale? What are the hidden fees and costs (closing?) associated with that?

Anyway, I am very happy and feel like we got a good deal.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!

You did get a good deal! MB on a larger contract certainly makes the cost more attractive. I have purchased both ways (Disney and resale, each twice!) and the real benefit to resale is price. However, the real bargains are much less so than in the past because Disney is buying back many lower priced resale contracts and most resales are priced higher to avoid Disney's exercising this right. There are also closing costs ($350-500) and delays with resale. Resale gives you access to sold out properties, so if BCV sell out and you'd like to add on at your home resort, you may explore resale in the future.

For now, don't overthink it. Relax and enjoy! You truly will not regret it!

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

Agree with Reneesam about resales. We got real lucky when we bought our resale. Motviated sellers who paid closing costs so we could effectively lower the price below ROFR buyback threshold at that time. Closing went quickly.

We also bought at BCV from Disney and have not regretted that purchase at all.

"Congratulations" and "Welcome Home"!!

Congrats and welcome home
Darren is our guide too. In all the years I've been lurking here, I have never had anyone else mention him as their guide.

I cannot tell you specifics as it has been three years ago, but at the time here is what I remember. I purchased 300 pts at Boardwalk and after turning over everystone could not find a better deal than what they offered right there at the sales office. In fact I challenged the sales guide, Byron, as I had a deal for a resale in my back pocket. I asked him to be staright up and I would do the same. After exhaustive comparison it was absolutely the best deal and I had no ambiguity about who I was buying from.
Now, I'm certain there are resale deals that are great and good. In fact, I keep an eye open looking for a "deal" in case I should want to add points. I have found DVC members to be outstanding people who would be great to deal with. At that time, I did not know for sure.
But we are talking about your vacations and your family here. peace of mind is worth something, right? I'm sharing this only because I went through the same thoughts and drove myself crazy trying to decide what was best. In the end, I've never regretted the decision and now have 450 points as we added to Beach Club when it opened.
Welcome aboard! Stop worrying and start enjoying the wonder that is DVC. As we say, Welcome Home!

I understand your anxiety - we had the same feeling after our initial purchase (250 at BWV) but it subsided quickly. It pretty well faded into oblivion after our first trip home. We just sent the papers back to DVC on our add-on (100 at BWV) and I don't have any of the anxiety - just a burning desire to get home....

JLS,

Congrats and Welcome Home!

I think your decision was wise, you most likely will find a good reason in the future to add more points.

I can hardly wait for our next trip and feel this option gives us more options when we do travel to WDW. At least the most expensive part of the trips is already covered!

emacman -- Byron is our guide for our BCV purchase as well. He is terrific, a classic gentleman.

Welcome Home!!!!!! Good for you!!!!!!

We bought our original contract and 2 add-ons through Disney, and they have been easy for us. Perhaps if you do enough research you'll decide on a resale add-on.

Either way, it's a great decision, IMHO.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!!!

We just purchased 270 in early May and then a 50 add on during our May trip....all at BCV Dec use year

Thanks

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

I know exactly how you feel as do many of the folks on these boards. We originally purchased 230 points and I wondered if I had done the right thing. Would I always be able to get the resort, room size and dates I wanted? Will it be worth it? Should I have bought a resale? Three years later and 3 add ons, I can only say our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. It has exceeded our expectations on all levels, and has provided us with unforgettable vacations.

We bought direct from Disney in 99 after looking at offsite timeshares and then taking the DVC tour at BWV. When we were at WDW last August we considered buying an add-on at BCV, but I was convinced that I could find a better price on a resale. I looked all fall and maybe saw 1-2 with the right number of points and the right use year, but the prices never made it worth the extra work. Last August we did, however, put ourselves on the BWV "wait list" for addon points and we got the call 5/17.

With that push we finally had to make a decision and we bought 30 points more at BW and 200 at BCV. With the MB credit and Disney's easy financing it was the right thing for us. The points were credited to my account before the papers reached us by FEDX. I've already made reservations for July 03 and April 04 and we haven't even closed yet! One CM even put a 2BR on hold for us because I can't borrow the points from '04 until we close. They just couldn't have made it any easier.

You made a good choice. If in the future you want an add on you can look at resales!!! Welcome Home!:Pinkbounc

You should call back and talk to someone else. We haven't closed yet and I was able to borrow points for my Oct trip. The first person I spoke to at MS told me I could not borrow until we closed, so I called my guide and she said yes I could. So I called MS and spoke to someone else who said I most definately could borrow points before I closed.

Good Luck!

Thanks, but we did MB so I did borrow already from 03 BWV points. What I needed was a small number of 04 points. They wouldn't let me borrow the 04 points for the 4/04 trip until 6/11 when we close. I already have 6 of the 7 days I need for the reservation and the 7th day is the least likely day to sell out anyway at this point....so I'm not too worried.

We bought 200 BWV points resale late last year and closed in Jan. For us, the benefits of resale were price (we paid in the low $60's per point) and being able to get a sold-out resort as our "home" resort. We didn't want the BCV for our home resort, as we wanted the 11-month window at the BWV for standard points season.

With Disney exercising FROR so often now, I can see why people are going directly through them for their DVC purchases. I think that we just lucked out buying resale when we did, as it was just before they started exercising FROR.

Congrats on your DVC purchase!
