Improtant FYI on flying right now!

I picked up my cousin yesterday from the airport. She flew out of Atlanta into Baton Rouge. It takes an 55 mins to get here and of course its a direct flight. She was all prepared for the new rules on liquids, but what she was not prepared for was the fact that her luggage was not there when she arrived and according to her coworkers that flew into B.R. from Atlanta the day before their luggage also didnt arrive. Thank goodenss it arrived today as did her coworkers. When they all opened luggage to check it they all had notes saying luggage had been searched. All in all thats not that big of a deal, but to you guys flying to Disney, it maybe a really big deal to not have any clean clothes and undies if infact they are doing this all over the country. SOOO everyone be sure to pack at least a set of clean clothes and your toothbrushes in your carry on.

Well, that's why I always pack underwear in ziploc bags. Not so full that they can't see exactly what's in there---so they won't be likely to open the bag. In fact, anything that I wouldn't want handled (toothbrush, etc.) definitely goes into a baggie.

Hey - pretty new to flying.....they dont search your person, right? You just have to pass throught the metal detector. Do you think that means it wodl be ok to slip a small tube of toothepaste in your pocket? I wouldnt want to do anything wrong...but maybe its ok? Thanks!

At present, items such as toothpaste are strictly forbidden to carry on the plane. It must be checked.

Do the people that will be standing behind you in line @ security a favor -- put the toothpaste in your checked luggage.

I wouldn't risk it if I were you. Worst case you have to buy a small tube of tooth paste at the resort. I remember some kid a few years ago writing a note he put on top of his bag saying something to the effect of "get out of my luggage" or whatever..and his whole family was detained and never did get to go on vacation. According to the TSA site knowingly or unknowingly bringing a prohibited item to security checkpoint is illegal. This has changed the way I have always packed..but better safe than sorry!

Yes, they can search a person. My husband and I were searched. I had a female TSA and he had a male TSA. It was mostly a patdown and they checked our shoes and searched our carryon.

We had one way tickets due to the fact that we did a repositioning cruise, plus we came in from Canada, and our plane missed it's connection and we were stranded in Chicago overnight and United wouldn't give us luggage. I'm guessing people with 1 way tickets and no luggage look fishy. Who knows.

We got our shoes & carryon back and were on our merry way.

Yes, they can search your person and no it is not okay to try and slip something through security that is prohibited. Just buy a tube of toothpaste when you arrive at your destination.

I, for one, cringe at the thought of not being able to brush my teeth. Our orthodontist has disposable toothbrushes that have a dried toothpaste on them for the kids to use before they see him. The paste softens up in water and does a good job. If this ban is still in place when we travel, I may try to buy a few from him for our carry-ons. A couple years ago I saw the same thing at Walmart and bought them for the kids to use at sleepovers but can't find them anymore.

Ah well...at least we can still take our books and other entertainment articles, for now.

As far as I know the only restricted foods are liquids and things like jello, pudding and yogurt. I would check the website just before you leave for the latest info..the link was on here somewhere...

They are called Oral-B brush up. They may be discontinued, but I was able to find some at my local Wal-mart about a month ago.

What on earth do people do about bottles with formula for babies? My own son doens't need that anymore, but I'd like to bring his sippy cup with milk ready for take off. I guess I'll have to bring an empty cup and ask the flight attendant for water (I can never find milk in their beverage service). It's really only an inconvenience for me, but for some very small babies and children with health issues it could be a big deal. Anyone experience this yet? I'm glad I don't fly for a few months (although I'm sure this and maybe more will still be in effect.)

My GF will be traveing with her 10moDS..and her plan is to take empty bottles and premeasured formula (she found little packets of premeasured formula) then ask for some warm water on the plane. She was going to have him be on milk by the time we fly..as he will be almost 1, but has changed her mind thinking the formula will be easier..easier to get water than milk. These changes sure have caused a lot more planning on our parts huh? Not looking fwd to telling DH is gel shoe inserts must come out of the shoes and go in the checked bags
