We tent camped at Fort Wilderness in 2015. We were in the 1500 loop I believe and though we weren't too far from a comfort station and the busses (1 min to comfort and about 5 min to bus) we would like to try to find an even better site/loop to request!

For those who have tent camped do you have a favorite loop or site to share? Is a preferred loop enough space for just a larger tent? We like the idea of being by the marina but the spots online looked small for a tent. My family size of 6 means we need a big one! lol!

We are check in Aug 7. (bringing an AC).

Any advice is welcome!

The sand pad on the back of the site I was on in the 100 loop was maybe 10x10 at best, and many are that way as they are primarily used by RV's who do not need nor desire a big sand pad area, not to mention the added cost vs a tent site.

Of the "RV" friendly sites, the "FULL" sites will have the largest tent pad and smallest concrete pad. Going up to preferred being medium of both. The premiums basically have NO tent pad and the largest concrete pads of the site types. Not all sites are the same even within the category either. One site may be longer then the next or shorter but wider....

It depends on how large your tent is, OP. Unless the size is very large, you should fit on most Preferreds. I was in loop 100 with my pop-up this past January and had a 10x12 canvas wall tent up and we had enough room.

Put your tent size on your reservation just to make sure (call and ask a CM to note it or do it when you book) and the Fort CM should see it when checking assignments and make sure you get a site that fits you. I would also confirm it when I arrive to check in if I were you.

No advice on the site but I have a question...what kind of AC are you going to bring? This has been why I don't want to tent in the hot months!

I think we were in the 2100 loop, and it was a nice, quiet loop. Is the preferred loop exclusive to tents? I wouldn't want to tent camp with my lot sandwiched between RVs. So you might want to verify that if it concerns you. I also think the marina area might be a bit loud.

No the preferred loops are not tent exclusive, so they would be sandwiched between RV's. And yes the preferred, you hear a lot of noise, the MK fireworks, the EWP noise can carry that far, the boat horns, but in an RV it is not bad. And some of the 100 loop sites also back right along the pathway from the marina to the bus stop, with just bushes between IIRC.

For us personally, of the Preferred loops, we like 200 as opposed to 100. As stated previously 100 butts up against the Settlement so you can clearly hear boat horns, EWP, and something that hasn't been mentioned yet...the ambiance music (banjo) playing over and over again all day and evening long. If you want a little more quiet while spending a day off in the campsite, then 200 is a better choice. Most campers spend the day in either the parks or in other parts of the campground. 200 shares the comfort station with 100 and also is a short walk to the Settlement.
