Hello,

We went "home" to Saratoga Springs for the first time in December. We stayed in a 2br unit on Dec 30th and 31st. I've loved reading everyone's reviews of the various DVC resorts (particularly mine :teeth:) so here are my impressions of SSR. I do apologise if it seems a bit disjointed but I've copied bits out of different parts of my trip report :)

We were me (Miffy2003 - Karen), DH (Jon), DDs (Amber 8, Erin 5) and Jon's parents, Derek & Julie. We kept our stay at SSR a surprise from everyone until we got to there :)

Saratoga Springs resort

As we turn into the entrance I am immediately struck by the lush green lawns that surround SSR. We stop at the entryway and tell the CM we are here to check in, and get a lovely “Welcome Home”. As we head up the sweeping driveway there are lots of noises of confusion from the back of the car and then some tears from Julie (actually, she cries on and off for an hour every time she sees something new and realises she is actually going to be staying here for two days!). The construction is obviously very visible as we head towards the Carriage House but there is no noise and you can only see it when making your way in and out of the resort. I think it is safe to say that Julie & Derek are very pleased and the girls are ecstatic when they realise that Donald’s water play area that they have admired many times on the Internet will be at their disposal for the next few days!

We go to check in which takes only a few moments (and get some more “Welcome Homes!”); the room isn’t ready but we are told to go ahead and enjoy the resort, with a phone number provided to call later and find out our location.

Now I am initially not as impressed with the décor and surroundings of SSR as I was at the Boardwalk, but over the next few hours I realise that this is part of the charm; it is very upscale and beautiful but (to me) not as immediately striking as the Boardwalk. But, the more time I spend here the more I love it. It is so relaxing; the atmosphere is extremely pleasant and the little touches around the resort all come together to make a most serene, stunning and welcoming resort. We are so happy to finally be here!

We explore all the communal areas in the Carriage House; the Artist’s Palette is very attractive yet informal which is ideal for a quick snack or drink. The shop has all that you would expect from a Disney resort with the usual goodies and there is a nice area in the food court to buy groceries. There isn’t a huge selection but there’s certainly enough to make yourself breakfasts and the odd dinner if you should wish to. We also pay a visit to the Turf Club, which looks a most attractive place to sit and have a cocktail or three!

It is a nice sunny day today (finally!) so we head down to the pool. As expected, the girls go mad when they see Donald’s play area and go charging in. They are fully clothed but they are having so much fun I say nothing!

We get changed in the most exquisite changing rooms I have ever seen in my life and grab some sun loungers. The pool isn’t very busy; I would say less than a third of the loungers are occupied. The pool area is lovely; the themeing is perfect and the zero entry a great idea. It is quite shallow and perfect for children. The waterslide is really good fun and Amber would spend all day going up and down this! Erin prefers the small waterslide and goes up and down many times. It is an extremely relaxing atmosphere and the beautifully designed and coloured buildings surrounding the pool area are wonderful to look at while you swim. They also provide shade which will be ideal in the hotter months.

We have a pleasant lunch at the Artist’s Palette. The barbeque pork flatbread is divine! The food we have here over the next few days is all freshly cooked to order and very nice, but there is definitely not enough choice. I think a full service restaurant here would be a real asset, although it is true that the many varied eateries of Downtown Disney are only a ten minute walk away. Hopefully DVC will reconsider this, although the Artist’s Palette is never busy I wonder if this is because the relative lack of choice is keeping people away?

We return to the pool for an hour or so longer but when I call at two our room is ready so we head off, very excited at the thought of our 2BR villa. It is room 2221, on the ground floor of the building overlooking Fulton’s Crab House. We have a view of DTD as I had requested so are very pleased.

Words cannot describe how amazing I find the villa. It is absolutely huge! Probably bigger than our first house ever was! The furnishings and décor are beautiful, very upscale and tasteful and all wonderfully themed. The pictures say it better than I can, but cannot do justice to how pristine the accommodation is.

Now I understand how DVC members can go to WDW and not want to be at the parks all the time. I was originally desperate to get to the Magic Kingdom today but there is no way we can bear to leave Saratoga Springs and instead spend a couple of hours luxuriating in our fabulous surroundings.

When I woke up this morning I spent a very pleasant few moments lying very still and drinking in my wonderful surroundings. Yesterday had not just been a dream; we really were at Saratoga Springs! This is the view from our bedroom window.

We enjoyed getting ready for the day at a leisurely pace and with so much room to do it in! It was a hard choice to decide which TV to watch, I can tell you ;)

We wandered over to Artist’s Palette for breakfast, which was very nice. For anyone that’s interested we were a six minute walk away from the pool area and Carriage House and our building was the penultimate one from the main area. I would say the absolute maximum you would have to walk from Congress Park would be ten minutes, and that would be a leisurely stroll throughout the beautifully manicured gardens and picturesque buildings. So I cannot really come to terms with the complaints about how far away the accommodation is from everything! What I would have liked best would be a refillable mug station in each building but I can wholly understand the problems inherent with that – though perhaps the use of a barcode for length of stay would eliminate that (as in the waterparks). Still, it is a very small negative, and we do have a fridge for drinks if we wish.

As we are planning a late night at Epcot to see in the New Year tonight we are happy to spend the day at the resort, making the most of the facilities. Also I am determined to make the most of the one hundred points it has cost to stay here tonight ;) We have a very happy few hours at the pool, swimming, playing, getting in and out of the hot tub (this is as close to heaven as I have ever been!) and simply enjoying the fabulous surroundings. I am happy just to lie on the sun lounger and soak up the atmosphere and look around with a silly smile on my face. The pool is busier than yesterday with I would say two-thirds occupancy but despite this it never feels over crowded in any way. We imbibe one or two cocktails from On The Rocks pool bar (to ensure standards are consistent with other WDW bars, you understand ;) ) and share a barbequed flatbread for lunch. We weren’t very hungry after breakfast but our PS for dinner is not until twenty to nine tonight so we decide a bit of food can’t hurt. I wasn’t really in the mood for a second flatbread less than twenty four hours later but the daily special was something quite heavy and unappealing at the time. It was not destined to be my last flatbread this trip, either ;)

The children love the play area and we love it too because as they play we can admire the panoramic view of Downtown Disney. This is particularly special at night when it is all lit up.

If anyone wants to read about SSR in its original format my Trip Report is right here

Cheers

Karen - I am really enjoying your trip report! Your pictures are beautiful and your narration is so detailed and easy to follow. Thank you for going through all of this trouble! I am going to now follow the link to the rest of your report.

THANKS AGAIN!!!

Thank you for posting this! I am delighted that you like SSR so much! It is my home resort and I have not been yet, as I am a new DVC member. I have been obsessively reading all I can about it and looking at as many pictures on line as I can find. Your pictures were lovely. I am looking forward to the relaxing atmosphere, the decor is right up my alley.
4/17 can't get here soon enough! :hourglass

Thanks again.

Wow!! We stopped by SSR for a quick visit last summer and it didn't interest DH or myself at all -- in fact we changed our ressies to VWL. Now you have me wanting to try SSR.

Great reports, thank for taking the time to share with us.

I wasn't sure if I would like SSR and after my visit there a few weeks ago for lunch I was hooked! I can't wait to stay there. However, I have never had the desire to stay at VWL so I guess there is something for everyone.

Karen,

Thank you for the report! IMO, it is the best SSR report yet and the pictures are wonderful and show many new sides of SSR. I have viewed SSR from DTD and I wasn't previously inspired. I'm now finding myself wanting to visit (or do an add-on! ). Besides, my DW is worrying because our DVC I expires before we retire. The extra 12 years is looking better.

Thank you for that awesome report! I loved the 4 nights I stayed there in a studio last August and now I'm looking forward to 6 nights there at the beginning of my 2005 trip in a 2 BR! I can't wait! I agree...the resort is beautiful! I'm almost sorry I'm moving halfway through my trip!

Hi,

Thanks for the report!!! Might go there in the Fall!

It's funny how different peoples interests can be. My absolute favorite & home resort is VWL. Just love the way it looks. My now second favorite is SSR. When I drove in there to visist last summer I was amazed at how beautiful it was. Love it too and just added on points there on Thursday!

Oh well, who am I kidding. I love them all, but VWL and SSR appeal to me the most.

Yes, thank you for taking the time to post such a great report of SSR and putting all those great pictures in there. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. :sunny:

You are making me so excited to go there! I am in the process of it becoming my home resort and now after hearing your details I'm so glad I picked it! Thank you for taking the time to write a trip report!

What a nice trip report. I savored every word. Thank you for posting  .

Thank you so much for this lovely and thorough SSR Report!! I am so looking forward to trying this resort out in June! :)

Loved your report, thanks. We've stayed at SSR and would be very happy to stay there again.

Thanks for your trip report, it brings back so many positive feelings we had on our first trip there.

Our vacation at SSR was so great that dh will consider NO other dvc resort :cloud9:
(believe me there are others we will be staying at against his will :rotfl: )

Angela

Thanks for the report and excellent pictures. SSR is a wonderful addition to the DVC stable of resorts.

Peace,G4L

Thank you for sharing a very accurate account of this resort. We love all the DVC resorts for different reasons. I do find the interior furnishings at SSR to be my personal favorite.

We caught the bus back to SSR and went straight to the Turf Club for cocktails and nibbles. No problem on the cocktails but they weren’t serving food! Clearly it wasn’t our night so we went to the Artist’s Palette instead; they too had just finished serving for the night but the lovely CM there said she would quickly do us something – barbecued flatbread okay?! I feel I am now a connoisseur of these We had a nice drink afterwards anyway and sat in the Turf Club which was pleasant if a little quiet. It was eleven thirty by now and the girls were tired so we headed back to the villa. I must admit the day had not gone as planned and normally this doesn’t really bother me but we did feel a little flat. We had no food or drink in the villa (because we were only staying for 2 nights) so got ready for bed. Just as we turned the light off, the midnight NYE fireworks began over Pleasure Island. They were fantastic! They were extended because it was December 31st and Jon and I both enjoyed watching these through our bedroom window. We had a fantastic view and the day did end on a high. Phew!
-

We were at SSR at the same time! While I was reading your horrid NYE
at EPCOT I kept thinking "the DTD NYE fireworks were AWESOME and we had an awesome view and didnt have to endure the crowds" We heard about how crowded the parks would be for NYE and decided to stay at SSR and watch the DTD fireworks. I definitely think they were much better than the special edition of Illuminations, which I loved by the way when we saw it earlier in the week. We could also see Illuminations High fireworks, from our patio at SSR.

Im so glad you made it back in time to see the Fireworks from your bedroom. We were AMAZED!!

Also thank you for sharing how great the CM's at Artist Pallette were to you. We also really liked AP and their offerings.
