Impressed with VMK player behavior

Surely you've noticed that I not once asked you to be on my team :rotfl2:

:lmao: Would have LOVED to have seen that! Uhh.... wait.... no.. I wouldn't! I would have surely killed you! :lmao:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Or could be known as "pulling a petez" :rolleyes1 You two are bad bad bad :rotfl2:

The sad thing I did pull a briar but got away with it. I was too busy teaching my son how to a good sitting duck and stressing that hubby could not get on VMK because his shockewave would not work. And we had a start time of 9:00 pm.

Fortunately I lost the first time :worship: So never had to be known as a person who pulled a briar.

Well she did do it first was one of the very first to make it through 575 pirates but was horrified to find out she was still on the 575.

So I believe she was the first to feel this type of agony so it is here for ever. So nice to have a skill (or lack of) titled after you. You are now famous Briar wonder when it will be added to the webster dictionary :)

Yes. It's official. I've joining the ranks of "Grace" by contributing to being my own definition of what NOT to do.

If you don't make sure the Q button is on BEFORE you start the task, and manage to score the required score...that will probably always be known as "pulling a Briar".

I assure everyone that it was NOT amusing at the time. ;)

Hey Briar,

If you "pulled a briar" then I "pulled a cruise"! Imagine my disbelief when after waiting more than 40 minutes with our team in our group room to get into a lobby (we all had passes), finally getting into the lobby, knowing who was the next designated "winner" and "pirate shooter", being lucky enough to get a game up and started, getting our entire team included in the game, being excited to finally be getting another person through.............only to find that I had started a ...........FLAG GAME!!!!!!

While this quest was next to impossible, I was also impressed with the display of teamwork I witnessed. Yavn, you can call it cheating if you want, but in my neck of the woods, we call it cooperation and teamwork - and NO, it is not cheating either!!

The most positive thing for me to come out of this, was the great new friends I was able to make and add to my list. Some of you I only knew here on the boards, so it was great to see you in the game and have you as a friend.

My biggest disappointment was that I could not be in 10 places at the same time. I wanted to help so many people, but once we got a group together, I was determined to get each and everyone of them through the most difficult task. Our first group alone took upwards of 8-10 hours just to get us all through, most of the time which was waiting to get into the lobby. I must say, getting a pass and passing the time chatting in a meeting room was a much better and fun way to waste the waiting time.

Yavn doesn't call it cheating either. In the current newsletter he says, "We were especially pleased to see VMK'ers working together in the Pirates and other games to complete the Quest."

:thumbsup2

True, I stand corrected. However, there have been references from others that creating a team and working together was considered cheating.

After spending full days helping others with the quest (a couple of days from open until close with no breaks), I realize that most of us had such endurance and continued determination to help others and themselves pass the game tasks. We came, we saw, we conquered...as many ppl as we all could physically help in the time that we were allotted. I am just so, so sorry for those who didn't get that chance -- to be on a team; to have others rally for you; and to help you when you needed help the most. I personally wish I could have helped each and every person pass that quest. It hurt me every time a friend would ask for my help, and I wasn't able to give it...because our team was full, or because there just wasn't the time. All I could do is add that person to an already terribly long waiting list. What VMK did to us, reminds me of disgusting display of mice trying to get out of an endless maze. Thanks to each and every person who helped take the time to include Monkey and me on their list this past weekend. Your determination and friendship is something I will always treasure.

Arg...been there, done that...except it was for the green car quest with the original fireworks game. Yes, always make sure your quest is running...just in case you hit that magic score, or complete that difficult task. :goodvibes

I was very impressed with the teamwork between everyone in the game. Yeah, there was a bit of ' we're waiting for 1 more team member, and you guys have to wait for 3, so you guys have to leave. '. However, the patience people had for one another was beyond what I could ever imagine. There was a point the other day where the line for a lobby took 40 minutes to get into, and everyone in our group was waiting patiently without one complaint. Not to mention we repeated this about 6 times before we all moved on in our quests.

I was helping out on about 3 pirates team, and I was very surprised to see that 2 of them lasted over a day and the same people were still there.

I also noticed a lot of encouragement from one player to another. I can tell you that I was stressed out at some point, but a dis member came over and cooled me down. (I'm assuming she's going to become a therapist at some point :goodvibes )

There was also a tremendous amount of friendship during the last few days. I found myself helping out people who I don't know so well (or fond of for that matter), and they would provide mini game assistance in return. The other night, I was stuck on the mansion quest, and I asked a few people for help. Next thing I know, two peeps come in and say ' We're here to rescue you, Penny! '. I did invite one of them, but he brought over a friend (or enemy considering this person :rolleyes1 ), and they were able to help me catch 127 ghosts in a snap. They're both my heroes now :worship:

Everyone that participated in groups to help people get past the pirates and mansion tasks should be applauded. You guys are inspirational, and you all TOTALLY ROCK! :)

Penny, you are not on my list in game so I wanted to thank you so much for sticking around to help get me through Pirates Monday night. I know you were getting scared about running out of time, and I truly appreciate you helping me after we got you through. So glad you made it through the quest! :goodvibes

People helping others was the only truly good thing about this quest.

I was amazed to see my entire friends list either "not in any room" or popping into a Pirates lobby. So I also am proud of how we all managed to scramble to get people pushed through.

But, I had felt so guilty that I had friends who wanted me to help, but I was already committed to other groups! It was killing me that I couldn't get around to as many people as I could. I'm just glad to see that it seems we managed to get a LOT more people through than VMK counted on.

I hear you Briar. I felt so bad when I got emails from others asking me to assist their team. I just could not 'jump ship' from helping our blue crew. As we went on a rotation model, I was at one point almost running non stop by having my other character play a pirate game while my main character was waiting to get into the lobby. I can't believe I did not dc on Sunday. I also feel bad because I know I got requests for other quest help and sometimes by mistake the messages were deleted quickly because of all the pm's I was getting. So I fear there might be some who think I was ignoring them, and I hope they do not take it as personal. And as you said, it was nice to look at your friend list and see pretty much everyone playing/lobby bound!

Aengus, I definately noticed you were quiet this weekend. I figured you were busy helping others as well. I too, cannot wait to hear your podcast.

I have posted how my husband thought I was absolutely NUTSO for playing all weekend long. I was so in the "dog house." In order to help put it in perspective for him, I decided to share with him some of the personal stories of families and friends working together. Even though he is not a gamer so he thinks vmk is kinda lame, he actually got it. How can you not get almost teary hearing about so many people working together to attain a goal? I reminded him of our trip to Jamaica, and how in order to climb the Dunn's River Falls you needed people above you to help lift you up the rocks, and in turn, you had to do the same for those right behind you. We felt like it was such an achievement making it to the top of the falls. So basically, I think he finally understands my reasons for being a complete geek (and proud of it) all weekend. :woohoo:

I have thoughts about yavn's newsletter ( ) but I want to keep this reply more positive!

Let's stick with "pulling a Briar." KTHX! :thumbsup2

Well, now that I know you did that too, I feel a little better. ;)
At least you weren't the third person EVER to defeat the task and groan
at the "congrats" messages in VMK. ;)

Ok, now THAT is really sad! :rotfl2:

And thanks to AmberDaze who experienced this in her green car quest.

I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to Pinkgirlygirl who tried desperately to help me get through the quest. I was really frustrated (along with most others, I know) by Sunday night because I couldn't find a team to join all weekend. I would read the Dis boards, spend countless minutes/hours waiting in line to get on the dock, only to be turned away each time because the teams were already filled (everyone was kind, btw). Pink promised to help me and she did - she found a time slot for me and a committed group to help see me through, but I didn't have a big enough block of time to help the rest of the team, and didn't feel right about taking up the spot. I also wouldn't have had enough time to finish the quest on Monday and I had to teach all day Tuesday and at the university on Tuesday evening, so with the noon deadline, I would have been crushed to come home and find the quest had ended. So, for the first time, I failed to finish a quest. And while I would have loved to have the items, in truth, I really don't mind. Because I experienced the best part of VMK, which is people helping people, even in seemingly impossible circumstances, unselfishly sacrificing their own time to get others through. So to Pink and all the others who worked so tirelessly to help the rest of us, THANK YOU! You rock. You make VMK the Happiest Place on Earth!!!

I'd like to say that yes, there were awful parts to this quest. But I found a group of people who will forever stay my friends because of the pirates task. It took us almost three full days to get everyone through (including the little siblings and children of some of the players) but not one quit the team once they won, everybody was super-encouraging, and nobody complained when someone failed the task and had to try again. I had never even heard of anybody on this team before (except for my BFF, who joined with me) but through it I gained 6 new friends that I'm very proud of.

I always find these threads late. :rotfl:

The teamwork in this quest was incredible, although I believe we are more than likely all sleep deprived now. LOL
A big giant  for every single person that helped through this , and an even bigger hug for those that didn't quite make it. Just remember (Yes I know this will sound cheesy:rotfl2: ) but you are all the Treasure to me, and many others.

Let's hope this teamwork isn't like the one time use magic and expires, keep it up! :thumbsup2
