Hey guys

I just read this online and I want to make sure anyone checks their Polly Pocket toys to see if they fall into the Recall. I will post the link to the article here RECALL

But here are the specifics from the article

The recall applies to about 2.4 million sets that were manufactured before April 1, 2005 and sold at department stores and toy stores in the United States from May 2003 through September 2006. They cost between $15 and $30. It also affects another 2 million Polly Pocket play sets were sold worldwide.

The recalled Polly Pocket brand sets include: Polly Place Hangin’ Out House, Polly Place Treetop Clubhouse, Spa Day, Quik-Clik Boutique, Quik-Clik City Pretty Playset, Quik-Clik Sporty Style Playset and Totally Zen Playset. Polly Totally brand Polly Place Totally Tiki Diner sets are also being recalled.

The commission said consumers should take the toys away from children and contact Mattel to arrange for the return of the toy and to receive a voucher for a replacement toy. For more information about the recall, contact Mattel at 888-597-6597 or visit http://www.service.mattel.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

Ohh my DD has some of those sets!! What's funny is when they first came out, a girlfriend of mine mentioned how easy the magnets fall out and how she thought that was unsafe! I think she emailed them about it.

Isn't this like almost all the recalls anymore though. If a child is young enough to put a toy in their mouth and choke on a magnet they shouldn't be playing with Polly Pockets! My Goodness do no parents have any common sense anymore? Thanks to the Lawyers the companies have no choice but to cover their behinds and issue a recall. Unless my child was 2 I wouldn't be worrying about it. The first Polly's were micro and our kids survived. Same thing happened with the Magnetixs.

I would have thought that only really young children were affected, but here is what was on the CPSC info for these toys:

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC is aware of 170 reports of the small magnets coming out of these recalled toys. There were three reports of serious injuries to children who swallowed more than one magnet. All three suffered intestinal perforations that required surgery. A 2-year-old child was hospitalized for seven days and a 7-year-old child was hospitalized for 12 days. An 8-year-old child was also hospitalized.

I guess it all depends on the child, not necessarily the age. My DD7 has this set and I don't see her doing anything dangerous with it, but my DS5, now he just might, even tho he knows better. Now I just have to find all the pieces since I noticed some of them are missing.

We have the quick change botique and I'm gladly sending it back but not for the safety concern but because it doesn't work!

I wonder how they fixed the issue because it says the newer sets with magnets do not have the problem

Exactly, I agree :thumbsup2 besides that sometimes kids do some of the darnest things, even when they know better. My DD6 just tried to spray her eye with something, she wanted to see it :confused3 , go figure. I just believe you can never be to careful and information is power, but I wouldn't sleep on this recall if I had any of these.

Exactly. If your older child doesn't know enough not to swallow their toys, there is a bigger issue. You can't prevent everyone from doing stupid things. I remember the Magnetix issue last year. Silliness.

Thanks for posting this, I'm going to check if my DD has any of those sets. She's 10 and doesn't put toys in her mouth (although I could see where someone might to hold it for a second if their hands were full, especially a child), but my toddler certainly does and while we keep her toys out of reach from him because of the choking hazard I'd still like to be sure this isn't a problem just in case.

What's silly is we have some of these dolls, but not those specific sets. The magnets could still fall out!

Thanks OP for posting this! :thumbsup2 I agree with this post. My 7 year old has never put anything in her mouth. However, her 1 year old brother is a different story. Her Pollys are not allowed to leave her room, but on the off chance he gets in there, I don't want one of these laying around.

Thanks for the info! I don't worry so much about dd5, she knows not to put toys in her mouth, but our cats love Polly Pockets! : )

As I was trying to round up all the little pieces, I found out that at least five of the pieces are already missing the magnets. I wonder what they will do if I'm missing one of the pieces. It's just hard to keep up with those tiny things.

I found I am missing some of the pieces too, one of the dolls with magnets. I dno't know what they do, I was wondering the same thing.

I'm not sure what they do in this case but in the past I have sent things back to Mattel and they have sent me a rebate check or replacement. I remember sending a Barbie bike back and Stacey because it was broke but I didn't have the bike helmet. They replaced it anyway. I think my Pooh set with the treehouse was made by Mattel and they sent me another tree set without needing the original and so I had two tree and one had tape on it :rotfl: since it was still usable.
It this a replacement recall or are they sending a rebate for toys?

I finally got to this tonight. We had three sets that were recalled. I'm not sure the time was worth it because for an hour and a half I was searching for pieces. I printed out the picture from the web of each set and tried to match up pieces.

Like most I was missing a piece here and there but found 95% of each set. I am reading that they will send a voucher based on what you send.
