Important question.

Obviously no one likes to have to wait, but a 12 year old will get over it. It's not like he was 5 and scared to death.

Yes I know. I just am amazed sometimes with the audacity of people. :) This is all. I felt bad for the kid, but as the night progresses, I do not any longer.

I would not assume a child needs a ride home either. A lot of times, parents can't get their kid somewhere b/c they are still at work. Often times, they are available to pick them uo however. I would probably point blank ask if the kid needed a ride home too.

12. No, it is not the middle of winter. I was not worried for his safety at all, obviously neither was she.

I just would personally not like to wait 45 minutes for someone, so I think that way.

Sorry but at 12 he should be old enough to figure out that if you left the game and your son was getting a ride with someone else then he should probably call mom for a ride home, especially after waiting for more then 15 minutes or so and no one coming to get him.

I never assume that if someone asks me to bring a child TO practice that they need a ride home. There are plenty of times that we can't drive one way but can drive the other. If someone calls for us to bring their child someplace I will ask if they need a ride home as well.

I don't think you did anything wrong, you spelled it out for her. :confused3

I guess I'm wondering why this boy didn't ASK the coach to take him home too, especially if he lives a street over from you. It's not like it would have been out of his way. Obviously he thought his mom was coming. I feel bad for him too but it was miscommunication between him and mom, not you and mom.

I'm also wondering why the coach would have left a 12 yr. old sitting waiting for a ride. My DD coaches a varsity team at the local high school and even she won't leave a 16 or 17 yr. old girl alone waiting for a ride. :confused3

At 12, I would assume the parent who brought my child to the park wasn't going to stay and watch. We do lots of carpooling here, and if I asked someone to bring my child, and I knew I'd be home when practice was over, I'd offer to pickup. Each leg is independent of each other. If I needed my child to be dropped off AND picked up, I'd ask about both. DH coaches ds10's soccer team, and parents don't stay. Every now and then, a parent forgets to pick up, so DH calls the parent. He can't leave a child at the park, and he definately wouldn't wait 45 minutes before making the call. :confused3

I wouldnt assume that unless I was told he needed a ride to and from...
but..of course, ask the kid :)

I dont think you did anything wrong, why didnt the person who brought your son home also bring the other kid??

I don't think you did anything wrong. The person I would question is the coach. For the past three years of coaching, I make sure that all of the kids have a ride home. I realize he is 12, but the coach should still check to make sure the team gets a ride safely.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd say some blame goes to the coach... As a leader of many clubs, I never leave unless all the kids are picked up!!

I was wondering the same thing.
BTW I always make it clear as the driver or non driver whether or not both ways will be driven. It is better safe than sorry.
However, I agree with everyone else who said you were not in the wrong here.
