Hello Everyone!

First off, I would like to start off by saying that I am a member of DVC. We just joined almost 3 months ago. My Mother, Father, and Myself (20) are members. DBF and I frequently travel to WDW...and sat down to plan out our next ventures this past weekend. We have decided to take a small trip at the end of the summer, and then go again in January.

I do not want to take away from my family's points for myself and DBF's trips, so I thought it would be a good idea to come on the boards and rent DVC points. My only question is how does that work? When do we pay the person who's points we are renting? If any of you have done this before, please give me some words of advice! Say for instance, we wanted to stay at SSR w/ dining plan for 4 days...would the person who we renting the points from book all that...or how does it all work?

Any advice would be greatly apreciated!

Renting from another DVC owner is actually very easy.

You just compute the number of points you need, go to the Rent/Trade board, and find someone to rent from. You pay for the points and they transfer them to your account. Some members will rent for transfers at slightly lower than normal because it is an easy, risk-free transaction.

The good thing about that is you retain complete control of the reservation throughout the process -- so you would make the arrangements for ME, dining plan, whatever.

Just be careful that the points you rent will be available for the period you plan to visit. Transferred points are supposed to retain their home resort and use year, although that doesn't always happen.

Since your parents are DVC members, the best bet would be to transfer points in from another member and then make the travel arrangements through your parents. It works just like renting points...you basically go on the Rent/Trade Board and state how many points you are looking to transfer. Find someone that is willing, agree upon a price, make payment, and have the points transferred by having the owner call MS to finalize the transaction.

Is there a limit to how many points or how often you can transfer? Thanks
Your budget and other DVC members' willingness to rent to you are the only limitations to the number of points that you may transfer into our account.

You may only transfer in one direction per use year. In other words, if you have points transfered into your account, you may not then transfer points out to someone else during the same use year. You may have additonal points transferred in, though.

I thought I had heard, or read, that the limit of points in your account at any one time was three times your annual allotment.

Thatwould have been in reference to banking, borrowing and using current year points so that you can use up to 3 years worth of points for one vacation. (Go to WDW every 3rd year). The possibility of transfers isn't included in that context.

There's no limit to the number of points you may transfer into your account - other than the available supply and your own ability/willingness to pay.

Best wishes -
