Our moderators work very hard to keep the DIS a safe and friendly place for all visitors. As much as we wish everyone would always get along, there are always going to be issues when you have this many people in one place.
Historically we have handled these issues with warnings, bannings and not much in between.

This has resulted in several recurring complaints from users. The first is penalties were applied in an inconsistent manner. Another common complaint is that people were not properly notified.
We have put a new system in place that we believe will address those issues as well as make the process more open and transparent.

All infractions of board rules will be addressed by a point system. You can see the various infractions and point values by looking at our board guidelines page located here:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/guidelines.htm

The way it works is really pretty simple. If you violate a rule the webmaster or moderator will click a button that assigns the proper point value to the infraction. At that point they must send a private message to the user, it will not allow them give the infraction without it. It will also generate a thread on the host board so we can track infractions.

Please note that private messaging is the official notification method, if you don't check your private messages you will not be notified. If you are banned you will get a pop up box listing the reason when you log in.
The moderator or webmaster has the choice to send a "warning" with no points for some of the minor infractions.

We can't possibly cover every situation with these guidelines. In a case where someone is "playing the system" or something is against board rules but not covered on this list we will still deal with it.

I will start a thread on the tech support board for any questions you may have on this process

We hope that by opening up this process we can create a better, friendlier atmosphere on the DIS and make the largest Disney discussion forum an even better place to be!

Questions on the new infraction system

Thank you DIS boards for implementing this! It will be so nice to have this board be a place to talk about VMK and the fun we have there, and not so many fights and personal attacks on staff, other DIS members, and the like.

I have been known to be a bit sarcastic in my posts (   ) but will be more attentive to that now, for sure!

Sarcastic as in being mean or insulting, not sarcasm as in  ! We would all be in trouble otherwise. :rotfl2:

Mal or LoriR,

What is a "filter violation" please? I am not familiar with what this is and want to make sure not to do it. Thanks!

a fliter violation can be like dictionary dancing or useing $$ instead of two ss's I also beleive it covers trying to post links (if your a new member) or dancing a link that is forbidden....

If it comes up at ##### when you preview it... you cant say it and shouldnt try and say it.

I am sure there is more to it than that, but those are the biggies...

Mal and Lori... I know we have quite a few siggy's around here that need to be tweek... will you all send out one more warning to those folks before giving them points? (saw that on the FAQ thread lol)

Bears is partially correct...it is Dictionary Dancing.

But you can dictionary dance without the filter catching it and it is still an infraction.

Yes we will be still warning members who have not had warnings before...but if you have been repeatedly warned you may or may not receive another warning before you receive an infraction.

Each infraction holds different points and at a pre-determine total number of infraction points you will receive a ban.

Thanks. I had no clue there was an allowable dictionary on DIS. Guess I'll just keep doing what I've been doing - seems to have worked this far. :)

Thanks for the clarification.

You must have missed this in the guidelines then:

2. NO PROFANITY: Profanity has no place on these boards. The boards are equipped with censoring software and will not permit messages containing inappropriate language to be posted. Profanity includes attempts to bypass the built in filter that these boards contain to avoid such words. Anyone found trying to bypass the filter will have their posting privileges revoked. Further, profanity includes suggestive or inappropriate photos. This is a family site, and other sites exist that contain more lenient guidelines regarding such matters.

and this thread among others.

I hope everyone will take a minute to review the DIS board guidelines and familiarize yourself with them.

Thanks

Ah! Clearly I knew no profanity. Must have missed the existence of a filter. Learn something new every day.

Exactly the same thing for me, except I found out about a month ago.

We the moderators used to issue warnings when a member did something to break any of the DIS Board guidlines. While we will still do that on first offensives we now will give infractions instead of warnings for repeat offenders.

Example: your signature has way too many lines and you have been warned before about it...you will receive an infraction and a PM from a webmaster or moderator stating why you have received the infraction.

Each infraction is worth a pre set amount. Signature infractions are 20 points and will expire after 15 days. If you recieve x amount of infraction points within a specific time period you will receive an automatic ban for x amount of days or permanently depending on the infraction.

This has resulted in several recurring complaints from users. The first is penalties were applied in an inconsistent manner. Another common complaint is that people were not properly notified.

Ok i have a question... if you get the PM ban, does it clear your PM box? Or will all your PM's be there when the ban is lifted...

Just curious, not planning on finding out... :lmao:

So here's my question: What classifies an Argumentative Sarcastic Posts? Sarcasm is my blood, and I tend to use it quite a bit, and I've been known to get into debates, but I'm not entirely sure wether or not the sarcasm is against the rules. I understand huge debate/arguments, but the sarcasm part confuses me.

I guess my fear is that I'll have to water down my posts to becoming a clone of everone else's posts. Sarcasm is my identity, my wit is my soul. To have to remove those would be pulling the plug on my posts.

Just saying.
