Crocs seem to be all the rage on the boards these days so I thought I would share what I found.
Both the REI store and www.rei.com have the Cayman model of the crocs sandal for $29.95. Anywhere else I looked (even online), the Cayman was $39.95. The catch is that REI only has them in light blue, red, and sage.
My opinion on the shoe: I went to my local REI store and tried them on. I am a very regular 6.5 shoe size. In 99% of shoes, I will wear a 6.5. In this Cayman model croc sandal, the size 6 would be the one for me to get. They aren't made of plastic but of foam. Just during the 5 minutes that I had them on in the store, I could feel a little humidity cloud forming around my feet. These particular shoes didn't seem to ventilate as I would need. My feet tend to get warm though, so this may just be my problem.
I also went to my local payless store to try on their version of this shoe. Same sizing applied - I would be a size 6. If I tried the payless version on one foot and the real croc on the other, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference. The seem EXACTLY the same to me - at HALF the price ($14.99). Having tried on both of them, if I were go get this shoe and payless had a color that I liked (payless has them in pink, light blue, and black), I would definitely get them from payless. In addition, payless is having a buy one, get one half off sale. So, if you have someone that also wants this shoe, or you want two in different colors, you can get them for about $11 each.
I hope some of you find this helpful.
