Immunisations?

I went to the smart traveller website and all it says is discuss with your doctor or travel agent. Problem is, I have neither.

So do we need any? We've got the usual childhood vaccinations. No flu no swine flu.

I hadn't thought of it but my FIL is panicking and asks me every day if I've looked it up.

You don't say where you are traveling but I always have an annual flu shot and my travel doctor always recommends it for any one (especially when cruising). Flu and I am not talking about a cold can make you sick for at least a week - so bad you can't even get out of bed.

Also I'd make sure I had Hep A shot - again regardless of traveling or not. Simply dining out puts you at risk - we had a restaurant here not so long ago where the chef had it

And keep your hands away from your face and use the hand sanitizer. I'm not paranoid about getting sick but it sure can ruin your holiday.

A small cost and inconvenience IMO.

Sorry we're going to Florida. I have read about hand santizer thanks. That'll be the first thing we buy.

my personal opinion - i have no evidence - but I think WDW is one of the most germ dense places on the planet. And I am NOT a germaphobe.
Just all those pre-schoolers licking the handrails, sucking the table edges, sticking things up their noses - there is no escaping them. Plenty of them to sneeze in your general direction.

In four trips I have caught a head cold about 1 week in - with or without hand sanitizer.

An Australian research study (I forget the source) found that the most germ ridden thing in a hotel room was the TV remote. So perhaps sterilise it or put it in a plastic bag.

When I was in Jakarta, people would order hot tea and then use the hot water to wash their plates and cutlery - perhaps extreme for FL - but if you are concerned ....

Tripadvisor has some germaphobe type people on it and numerous threads on sterilisation of hotel rooms.

we all had the flu injection before our last 2 trips and will continue to do so we did get sick but everyone was only ill for 24 hours and i think part of that was exhaustion we had been having midnight nights and 6am morning for nearly a month at that stage.

my doc said it was personal preference... there are no immunisations that you 'have' to have when travelling from australia to the usa.

having said that, we all chose to get flu shots before we went, and we did pack both hand sanitiser and hand/makeup/dettol wipes (we found they were pretty interchangeable) as well as anti-nausea and anti-diarrhoea meds (we asked our doc for scripts and he was happy to help) as well as over-the-counter Telfast for allergies/hayfever and cold & flu medicine.

i got sick while i was in nyc and that was a pretty miserable experience, but having anti-nausea meds on hand was a bit of a lifesaver.

so i would recommend stocking up on those, myself, just based on personal preference. we only used the anti-nausea meds and the hand sanitiser/wipes while we were on vacation, but i sure felt better knowing the other treatments were there if needed :)

Thanks for the tip about wipes and remotes. I am a bit of a germaphobe.

Are there bathrooms in all the QS and TS restaurants so we can handwash prior to dining?

Don't mind me I'm just having my pre holiday meltdown *walks off of whistling like a crazy lady* 30 days out.

We have been to the USA twice in the last 5 years. No immunisations were needed either time.

Doctor said can have flu shot if we wanted but thats all.
