My dbf is coming with me on his first trip to USA and for our first holiday together at Immigration will we have to go through seperatly or do they usually let you through as the party you are travelling with? Thanks

If you're travelling together, you can clear immigration together. :)

Me and my DGF travelled to Orlando last September and were told that as we do not live together we had to go through seperatly. If you live together then you can clear it together.

We dont live together, but their seems to be some immigration people that are nicer than others. Hopefully we can go through together as i think dbf will get all confused with everything, all the booking stuff etc has come through me, atleast i have warned him that they take your picture and fingerprints.

You will have to get an extremely nice officer to let you go through together. My girlfriend and I have travelled there several times together and have had to go through seperately on each occassion as we dont 'officially' live together.
Sorry but I think he'll have to brave it:thumbsup2

We took our elder dd's boyfriend with us a few years ago. He completed a separate customs form as he didn't live with us (well, not officially  ), but he cleared immigration with us as we were travelling as one party. :confused3

My sister was made to go back in line when she went upto immigration with her boyfriend when we travelled back in February 08, the officer said to us if not blood related or married its separate. We had let my sister go first so she had reassurance seeing behind us behind her in the queue. It was her first time of travelling to the USA. :hippie:

My and my Bf went through together and we don't live in the same place, but we had a nice chatty officer who had just come on duty i think. It was funny watching everyone rush into a new queue as soon as he'd sat down!

Just line up together and you could let him go first and he can wait for you or visa versa. They normally let you wait for rest of party just over the line. Just make sure he fills in the seperate customs form seeing he's not a direct family member.

Yeah it seems weird my friend just told me she went MCO in April with her mate and they asked if they had to go through seperatly and got the harsh answer that well you dont want me to send you back into the line and that they was fine to check in together.

Me and my bf live together and we went through separately. Since we're not married we thought they might have asked us to do this anyway, not worth getting any unnecessary hassle from the scary immigration officers!

We have never had a problem, gone thru many times with both Mum and Mum in Law, all living diferent addresses, own forms then this Easter took a friend, no relation different address, own form, again went thru all together. I think you have to be unlucky to have them seperate you.

Immigration officers might look scarey but talk to them and they are usually friendly people. Just put yourself in their shoes sat there with foriegners throwing passports at them and grunting. Make conversation and 9/10 are very friendly just doing a very repetative job.

Before DH and I were married we always cleared seperatly. I am sure this used to be the rule (I seem to think that it may have been on one of the forms:confused3 ).

The immigration officers in Orlando are not that bad and they are used to tourists. Most are very chatty. Once we flew indirect and we had to clear immigration in Cincinatti - now they were scary as I was 19 and going through by myself!

Me and my DF live together and have always had to go through seperatly (even though we have a child together so one of us takes her through)

I would prepare that you have to go through seperatly and then if you are allowed together its a bonus!!

I wouldnt worry about it to much though, They wont grill him that much im sure...and if he is worried then just reassure him of the fun that is the otherside of immigration!:cool1:
