Ok, maybe daft question but we are travelling from Glasgow, Scotland to Orlando via Toronto in October - price was too good to pass up. Will we have to go through immigration in Orlando? We always arrive in MCO after being through immigration in another US city so not sure what will happen this time.

Wendy,

I would guess that yes, you are going to have to clear immigration twice, once in Toronto, and once in Orlando. You may get a more definitive answer if you also post this on the Canadian Visitor's board.

Are you flying the same airline for both legs of the journey? If you are, you could probably contact them through their website and find out for sure, but I am pretty sure that yes, you will have to clear immigration 2x.

I know that to get in and out of Canada I have only had to show a birth certificate, but I am a US citizen.

Good Luck!

Debbie

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes we are travelling with Air Canada each time. I forgot there was a Canadian board so I will post there and try the airline also.
Again thank you.
Wendy

When our flight originated in Toranto, you can clear us customs and immiagration in Toranto (at least you could 5 years ago). I
assume you could do the same.

This was also true in Montreal and Vancouver.

The canadian board should know for sure

Hi wendym when I fly air Canada from Toronto to MCO we clear US customs in Toronto not in Orlando. You probably will clear customs in Toronto coming from U.K. then clear US customs for your trip Orlando.

Just spoke to my husband who travels a lot and he says you will just clear customs once in Toronto but it will be US customs as they guide you to a special area. Hope this helps.

Thank you - I am now much clearer as to what will happen.

What a difference a typo makes - sorry!!

I believe that when you exit the airplane in Toranto, you will be directed to a customs and immigation area. There should
be a divider for people remaining in Canada (they clear Canadian Immigration and Customs), People in transit to US Destinations (they clear US immigation and customs) and people in transit to non-Canada/non-US locations (I don't know what they do).

Once you clear US customs it exits to the gate area for all flights
going to the US. There is an area to re-check you luggage based on your airline (since you need it to clear customs). When you de-plane in Orlando it is as if you came from any US city (customs and immigration not required). My experience in Toranto was that it was very well signed.

You will pre-clear in Toronto.

As an addition to Vavasmon's post you also pre-clear US Customs in Winnipeg and Calgary.

And Wendy, I'm sure you know this, but you will need a passport--a birth certificate will not be enough.

Thanks all - I just noticed the stupid typo I made - I meant to say now I was much clearer not, not!
As for passports both have them - cannot travel anywhere without them. They are even threatening to make us go down to London to get Visas if we have to renew our passports. And if you have any criminal convictions (even for things that the UK would consider "spent") you won't be allowed in. It could decrease the visitors from the UK.
