Hi all, I am looking for recommendations on a immersion blender. I have never owned one, nor used one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I got a stainless steel cuisinart one from Costco that is amazing. I highly recommend it. I use it to make emulsion type dressings and sauces, to make quick whipped cream, and for pureed soups like split pea and tortilla. It's also great for making batters that need to be thin, like tempura or crepe batter.
I have the Kitchen Aid one that has the stainless steel attachments, no complaints. I also had a less expensive Hamilton Beach one and honestly, it worked just as well as the Kitchen Aid one, I just put it away somewhere and couldn't find it. It's since been found and donated!

Had one for several years, but seldom used it so finally got rid of it. Was mostly used for smoothies, but got a smoothie/juicer maker and it takes care of any needs.
My original immersion blender finally died after a good 22 years of use; it was a thing of beauty pureed like dream and I mourned it's loss once I purchased a newer version. I was somewhat annoyed when the blender died since my Black and Decker hand mixer was purchased around November 1979 (Christmas baking!), cost 18.99, and is still going strong. How do I know what it cost? Because way back then they put the price on the box, LOL. Err I'm still on track and know that an immersion blender doesn't do what a hand mixer does just hate planned obsolescence.
My first immersion blender was made by Cusinart but it's replacement was a KitchenAid. Cuisinart's newer version was not as good as the Kitchen Aid, and the KA didn't puree as well as as the original Cuisinart. It had issues getting into corners; constantly broke apart in use, didn't puree as finely and had silly accessories (jars and separate blades) that made it into the trashcan fast. Still with me?.
I'm going to take a leap of faith and buy a refurbished Vitamix to replace my immersion and stand blenders. My new kitchen space is weally small causing me to think hard about what small appliances are needed. The VitaMix will do everything the immersion blender and stand blender can thus taking up less space and since it feeds well into my bulk cooking, take less time. Saw my sister's in action and was in total awe.
OK but if the cost of the Vitamix isn't in your current budget and smoothies or pureed soups are on your agenda, I'd get a KitchenAid3. The price is more reasonable (around 40 bucks) and if you need a foodmill to further smooth what you are making so be it.
