iMac

Thinking of getting one of the new 24" iMacs to replace our old Windows XP PC. Anyone have one? Is it worth it? I'll admit that I'm mainly being drawn by the stunning design and good looks, and the reputation that Macs are less virus-prone, but I'd appreciate any advice.

I just bought a new 20" iMac and I LOVE IT!!! So glad that I finally decided to just make the switch. It took a little while to get used to not being able to right click, but everything is just so much easier (to set up and to use). I'm also using iWork now instead of MS Office and I'm hooked. The templates are so much fun to use (I'm a planning addict and am in love with the spreadsheets ). Also iPhoto and iTunes are great. So I say take the plunge... you won't regret it!

I've had a Mac Book since last year and all I can say is once you've had Mac you ain't eva going back !

Best computer I have ever had. Honestly, I love it so much! Only thing is, other people have yet to see the brilliance of Mac and so, for example, when I joined the Open University some of their software was only formulated for PC's and wouldn't run on my Mac unless I had Vista. So it is worthwhile getting Vista for Mac. But seriously - get the IMac !

I recently sold my Mac because I use a PC for work and found it sooo frustrating to keep switching back and forth. I'm a luddite though, so what would I know? My brother is a huge Mac fan and hates the way they are maligned. I have found most techy types love Macs, but dinosaurs like me like straightforward clicking.

This is on my want list. We are a Mac family we have an Ibook, mac book and mac mini. They are fab would never go pac to a PC

we've got an iBook and iMac and love them, you soon get used to the difference. The portability is a great thing about them and things like "hot corners" are really cool, definitely take the plunge - especially if you're getting a 22" - superb!

My brother is a huge Mac fan and hates the way they are maligned.

Mine too and for years I argued with him, but we got an iBook about 4 years ago and followed it up with an iMac a year later. Once you're used to it (and it really doesn't take long) there's no going back. We've got an all-singing, all-dancing PC which we never use.

We have a Mac Mini as our main computer and I have a Mac Book. It took us a while to get used to the Mac Mini, but now I would not go back to a PC. When my PC laptop broke last year, I replaced it with the Mac Book. I have to work on a PC at work and I have zero patience for the PC.

I agree with the above posters - once you go Mac you'll never go back .

We have Mac's for the last 9 years, we've had an Orange G3 and we've still got a 20inch G5 & a Mac Book Pro.

I keep bugging DH for my own Mac laptop , and realllllllly want an iPhone after playing all afternoon on my mums new iPod Touch.

Yes Mac's are Virus free which is fab.

Enjoy your new toy if you decide to buy one.

We're a Mac family!!! I got fed up of my horribly expensive Sony PC crashing when I did graphic design so switched over 10 years ago - that 1st Mac desktop is still going strong BTW... Nowadays DH and I both have MacBooks plus a newish iMac (such a thing of techno-beauty) for more serious work. Never had any problems with them whatsoever - no crashing, no virus worries and no security issues...

As a cautionary tale, I was tempted by the dinky little Samsung Netbook and bought one for my DS at Christmas. Lovely to look at and a cute item BUT I used it on our hols and somehow the address book from my email account was "stolen" and deleted without my knowledge!!! And that's with up-to-date McAfee!!! Moral of this story is I absolutely wouldn't waste money on a PC again - I've got my eye on one of the aluminium MacBooks...

My wife uses a Mac at work as she is a graphic designer and thats Mac forte.
However I personally wouldn't touch one with a barge pole!

They are clunky and not as cheap or upgradeable as IBM pc's and I also hate the messiah attitude of Mac users, reminds me of people who give up smoking then become fantical smoker haters!

No Blu ray ability, awful compatability issues, poor playback abilities and hyper expensive for mediocre process.

But then, as 90% of computers use Windows, of course more viruses will be written for this OS.

I thought DH was dragging me to the dark side when he bought our first IMac. Since then we've added the Ibook and another IMac. As others have said, once you get used to it, wow, wow, wow!!! I especially like it for Itunes with my Iphone. I still use Vista at work but now I am definately a Mac convert.
