I'm.........

He sailed through his retina surgery this morning and we're home now. It turned out to be a much simpler procedure than everyone expected so we are happy....
....well THAT'S good news....:thumbsup2

.....and since I teach mathematics [Grade 6 Pre-Algebra] we were just informed [at our last dept meeting] that our yearly review includes 30% of our 'grade' hinging upon students' state-mandated assessment scores.....as if I didn't have enough to fret about...

Yikes! Social studies was a heck of alot harder to quantify and be accountable for thank goodness! I left the school system just as accountability became more important than education. I now advise college students to think very carefully before becoming teachers........It is so different from even 20 years ago!

Thanks for asking Jo!

Glad to hear that. The next cataract will be a breeze

Thank you Kim! It has definitely been up and down this week. Never let anyone tell that cataract surgery is routine!
.....my mom had cataract surgery [both eyes, but different times] and, the first 2 days she was sore, but it got exponentially better with each passing day. She had trouble adjusting to the [outside] bright light for a while, which was difficult being she lives in Puerto Rico....

4 years full time.
She hates all the parent confrontations.
Title one school.....but she did student teaching in one of those in WA and didn't seem to mind it.
She is considering quitting after this year and hopefully find a job. Her district is wanting contracts back before spring break.....the other districts won't even have their job openings listed by then.

You and I have discussed this before Nancy. Hopefully her skills will find a place elsewhere. If she likes teaching itself she might look into corporate training or working for a company that needs her organizational skills. The federal contractor I worked for after retirement from teaching hunted for teachers for a wide variety of projects. The federal government values teaching skills as well.

I saw a number of teachers I worked with move into places like the FBI and office management.

There is also a market for online teaching now that most states allow students to bypass regular schools and learn from home.

If none of my suggestions make sense just disregard :rolleyes1

I'm finally relaxing after DH's 7:30 AM post-op appointment this morning. He has at least 2 more appointments next week and may have to postpone cataract surgery on his other eye. I will be so glad when this is all over...........

Thanks, Kathy.
She has applied to many online teaching jobs......and also class advisor, etc. at community colleges.
She is a good hunter, but no one seems to reply to her.

That's hard to deal with I'm sure...hopefully something will turn up!

I'm relaxing today; postponing cleaning the house which does really need it!

Zoo sounds like fun! DS used to love going and we had a membership to the National Zoo in DC. My favorites were the prairie dogs and the pandas.

I'm cleaning house later today.

Back from the zoo.
Yes, we have membership.....have since DGD has been about 6 months old. Try to go once a month until the hot summer months come.
She likes the lions, baboons and goats to pet.
I like the tigers, cheetahs and other cats

Hi!

Glad retina surgery was successful, sorry it was needed, but all went well!:)

I was a math teacher in NJ public schools until we moved to Ohio. What state are you in?

Maui was wonderful! Plenty of whale sightings. Here on Oahu, none so far, but we're told they're out there.:fish:

Here we are with Ohio neighbors and DSis. I love, love the swimming in the ocean in Aulani's cove!
