I'm.........

I found out that I need cataract surgery sooner than I thought. I want it done locally, I trust my doctor here. I find out about scheduling tomorrow. We have a 2 week trip to Hawaii between now and the earliest I can plan. Luckily, Tom is flexible, but we may be living here for just a bit while the house is on the market. We were hoping not to have to deal with prospective buyers while living here.

Last night I went to sleep thinking I could get rid of my mug collection ( travel souvenirs, nothing fancy or expensive ) ..this morning I think I will bring them and perhaps make room for them in my sitting room.

Good luck with the cataract surgery, Bobby. BFF, Kathy had hers done last year.

I love my mugs....at least you can use them. Now my antenna topper collection, key chain collection and pin collection.....and the beanies  Not so sure about those.

Do you have the mugs displayed? If so, how? I had mine under a counter here, I have much less counter space in NJ.

I have my Starbucks Disney ones and a couple other Disney ones in a curio cabinet. The rest are in a kitchen cupboard and get used.

Oh Bobbi, Hawaii how much fun!!

Nancy , I got rid of those beanie babies so long ago. I think I have The End, and Bubbles and that is it.

I only have Disney beanies. I had them displayed at the old house but no where to do that here. I have about 300 or them in storage now.

Not in a curio cabinet, but I may have a chest to display them in. I find I have favorite ones, those get used, the others are memories.

I do tend to use the same ones over and over, but the others are in the cupboard waiting their turn.
DH has a Donald Duck collection.

Keep most of the mugs bobbi! I got rid of many of mine last winter and I regret it so much. At least I could use some of them as pencil holders and craft containers ::yes:: instead of buying fancy containers at Hobby Lobby (lol). But at least it gives me an excuse to buy some Disney mugs in April.

You and my DH might end up having your cataract surgeries about the same time. His first one is next week and the other two weeks later.

I'm impressed with your moving flexibility! I am also hoping for the very best for you in this whole house selling process. I think I already told you how horrible our 2008 try to sell was; wouldn't wish that on anyone ever.

Are you having anyone advise on house staging? Along with putting the house on the market earlier than we originally planned I think those two factors made our house sale so successful.

Whatever happens you know we here on the DIS are standing behind you!

Kathy, thanks for your thoughts on the mugs, I culled a few, and am satisfied that the dozen I'm bringing will be displayed or used. We already have a fully stocked kitchen in Cape May, and I will be culling some from there.

I have about 30 beanies including a couple for the year 2000. I don't know why I keep them but I do enjoy spending a little time looking at them when I come across them. But I am the only Disney collector in the house. DH has a small general beer mug collection to mark our travels though.

At one point I considered selling most of my Disney pins (when they would have brought in some good money) but like the beanie babies I do love to look at them in their albums. I have some framed and I plan to frame more to hang in my craft room.

OT - I was just saying to DS that I need to specify what should be done with all my Disney collections when I'm gone. I do not want them tossed!!! My sister would cherish much of it all.

DH tolerates much of my collecting because all his mother's special bowls etc. fill our only curio cabinet. :)

I do subscribe in theory though to some of the popular wisdom that you don't have to actually keep everything but memorialize it in some way through pics kept online or on a wall. I'm working on this philosophy :rolleyes1

I have a National Park Passport that I've used since 1991, and many sections have no more places for stamps, so, now I have a few Park stamps in the wrong sections. I cannot bring myself to buy a new book. Every so often, I go through the book, look at the cancellations and remember the place and the people with me.

I do not have that many Disney pins, or so I thought, but I recently bought a small case that I bring with me on a cruise with ones I will either "show off" or trade. I think mostly I buy the ones I like to keep, but I will participate in Meriweather's pin exchange and trade on ships. I'm bringing the small case with me to Aulani.

Just left Doctors' and got medical OK for the surgery. Tomorrow I go for eye measurements.

Kathy, I did not remember your horrible house selling affair in 2008, I am so happy things were so much better for you recently. Our bad time was 2015....I think things will be better now. We learned some things, but most important was realizing both Tom and I will be happy in Cape May. We have eliminated buying a second house, so our financial footing is better! (We can travel more, for as long as we can!)

Our bad house selling time was 2008 also......took it off the market for a few years.

I have 400 Disney antenna toppers, about 300 Disney beanies, 1500 Disney pins. And lots of other things.
I just found a container of old coins including silver dollars. I think I will start with those.
I love some of my pins, but am buying a lot less now. I limit it to passholder, DVC, holidays and tours. Hope to get rid of the rest sometime.

DH just left in the snow to get his eye measurements done today. His surgery is Tuesday afternoon.

I understand about the national park passport decision. I collect NP pins and have a huge shadowbox to place them in. Just have to figure out what I want as background material in the box. I bought a big US map which I may use or I may cut out the individual states and use it that way. Actually this is a project I will start working on later today.

I don't remember discussing the house sale in 2008 on the DIS but we literally made every wrong decision we could have at the time (i.e. choosing a horrible agent who ignored our house and told us to postpone putting on the market until it was already sinking etc.) She never advised dropping the price after a couple months etc. It was our first house sale in 22 years and she never brought in clients only showed the house to those from other realtors etc. We literally kept the house perfect for months until I insisted we cancel her contract.

And I totally agree with your decision about no second house and using the money for what you love, travel! It was a wonderful feeling to house shop this past winter knowing we were in excellent financial shape. Our only regret is that we probably bought too big a house (which we love) and will need to move again in 10 years or so probably.

Do you collect pins also bobbi?

I remember trading our PinPics info a few years ago Nancy. You have about 500 more pins than me but if you're like me you probably have some pins not entered on PinPics yet. I actually spent some time on PinPics today just reviewing my pins; I'd forgotten about some of them entirely. It was fun looking them over and inspired me to dig out my pin albums for display in my TV room. I'm so glad I collected several Electrical Parade pins now that it has returned to Disneyland.

Now, how could you display those antenna toppers??? They might actually look very cute on a tiered level shelf sitting on little dowel posts. Sounds like a project for woodworking hobby DH!

I'm beginning to consider placing my beanies on a shelf in my craft area. I don't have many but they are cute and full of good memories for me.

Definitely do something with those silver dollars; my sister has many of these along with those silly special minted coin sets advertised on tv (ugh). She actually sold a few not too long ago and got good money for the silver.

And like you, even though I admire some of the newer pins I only buy two or three each trip now. I am having DS hang my framed pin sets this weekend. I should have done that months ago!

Have a good day ladies and bobbi keep us informed about your surgery!

My antenna toppers are displayed on antennas that DH mounted on wood. They are in the family room.
My beanies used to be on display in the WA house. DH built shelves over all the door ways. Here the doorways are set up the same, so they are boxed in storage. I may have DS sell them on ebay when he gets done selling the things he is getting rid of.

I haven't entered pin into pinpics in awhile. I don't like the new website.

Ok..I am on second plane to Denver from Columbus. We had a problem with landing gears, too much fuel to land right away we flew around Ohio for over an hour.

We were told how to use the slides, we practiced and used Brace position as we landed!

The pilot just told us we used $34,000 worth of fuel flying around before we landed.

On a new plane.. we will get to Maui.... eventually!!!!

Yikes! Not a pleasant trip but glad to hear you are on your way again. Never had to do the practice stuff etc. and don't want to!
