I'm Worried.

It's so funny that you have this feeling because it's exactly the way I felt before my trip to the WL last October. Like you, the Poly is my favorite, and I've stayed there twice. A close second is the Beach Club. I live in New England, so the idea of the whole woodsy/lodge theme just seemed too much like home to me and not my taste at all. The resort just looked so dark to me. I love the whole Hawaii theme of the Poly and the bright pastel colors of the Beach Club. I did NOT expect to like it. Much like you, I kept thinking of how much I love the Poly, how I didn't want to have a lesser trip because of the hotel, and on and on. Anyhow, like so many others on this board, I was completely surprised by how much I loved the WL. I found that the woods surrounding the hotel made it seem so much more peaceful than other resorts that are more open. It seems like a quiet retreat. Coming back to the hotel at night to the flickering lantern lights just made it feel so cozy. It could be that you won't love it as much as others do, but I think you may surprise yourself. I just went to the Beach Club in May and found myself wishing that I were at the WL.
That's funny; we live in New England, too, and we never thought that the WL feels like home at all. It feels like the Pacific Northwest to us (go figure). :)

On our first vist, we extended our vacation by a day, and stayed at the Yacht Club. That resort really felt like home to us--and not in a good way. It just felt so ordinary! The Yacht Club's theme is much like that of everything around us all the time at home (which means that Disney did a good job!). The Yacht Club reminds me of an overcast day on Cape Cod. If we ever stayed in an Epcot resort again, we might try the Beach Club. The color scheme there looks much less drab, at least, than the Yacht Club.

As the saying goes... if mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy. Moms set the tone for the household and, if you say, your daughters are disappointed, they likely picked up on that from you.

It's all in the attitude. Adjust thyself and the world will follow. Every trip is a new adventure.

Good advice!:thumbsup2

We are soon to be ex-dvc members and I cannot remember the last time I looked forward this much to a Disney trip and we are staying at POP:lovestruc

In July, we had seven people in two rooms at the Poly. It was nice but I really missed the WL. It was very crowded in July everywhere you went so.(standing room only) Roaring Forks also has made some vast improvements including adding the soft serve ice cream.(chocolate/strawberry/vanilla) even in the Hawaii building I will be missing the WL which is my personal favorite.:confused3

SOFT SERVICE ICE CREAM!! That may soften the blow a little for my DD's:lmao:

That is some great advice!!! Maybe if I show them pictures and try and get them excited we can all be on board with the WL.

Thank you guys all so much. SO many great comments and opinions and thoughts. I am not going to let not staying at the Poly get me down. We could love the WL just as much. You are all right. I even booked a few last minute ADR's this afternoon. I'm starting to get excited.

DH even said he saved up a little extra money to get the girls something special for their birthdays (this is also a birthday trip for both). So instead of putting that toward the Poly, I think I will get them a cute basket for when we arrive at the WL. That may take the sting out of not staying at the Poly AND still save about $800! Now, that is giving me something to get excited about! They will love walking into the room with an extra special surprise:thumbsup2

THank you all so much. YOu have given me a lot to think about and walked me through the decision. We are going to keep our reservation at the WL, get a birthday basket for the girls and still save a lot of money. Well, that is at least how I am feeling right now:rotfl: We all know how quick resort decisions can change:)

You've got such a great attitude about everything! :goodvibes Sounds like you know how to have a good time and how to make great memories for your girls. I think the little extras you are doing for them at WL will really make their trip! :thumbsup2 Don't forget about the special birthday cakes you can order, too. I think they can even be delivered to your room. :goodvibes

Sounds like you'll have a blast! Can't wait to hear how it went...keep us posted.

My DH picked WL for our honeymoon (I wanted to stay at POR) and we fell in love with it with it so much we stayed there 3 years in a row. The lobby is grand, yet peaceful, and the grounds are beautiful. We love sitting out at the beach early in the morning and late in the evening to relax. The hotel set up is very convenient and all of the rooms are just a short walk to the restaurants, pool and bus. Transportation is very convenient as well.

Last summer we bought DVC and got developers points for SSR. I was a little worried that it would be a letdown from WL, but you know what? we loved it too! i guess i have come to realize that 1) just being at WDW is part of the magic; 2) all of the resorts have there own benefits; and 3) we are now looking forward to trying out another resort now that we have strayed from being such creatures of habit. There's definitely something exciting about trying out a new resort and seeing all that it has to offer.

We have camped many times at Fort Wilderness so share the boats with WL. It is so cool taking the boat to and from the MK!!

Also Wilderness Lodge is near but just far enough away from the action to be relaxing. It is a lovely, lovely resort and - IMO - much less stressful than staying at the Poly.

Relax and enjoy yourself. If this is your biggest worry, consider yourself one lucky person!!! (but, of course, you already knew that ... didn't you?)

I agree! Just returned this evening from WL (our 2nd stay there) and next to the Poly, it is our favorite. Boat transportation this trip was excellent; bus transportation was great except for transport to Downtown...waited about 20 minutes for that bus and the return bus was PACKED! The lodge is beautiful! The day DD arrived, she requested a different room (view was of the "delivery area" but ended up being OK...had the best view EVER of MK fireworks!) ... there was only ONE other room available in the entire resort and that room was same view one story down. My point ... with a totally booked resort, we NEVER felt crowded; pool was busy but not full; eating areas the same. Lots of "elbow room" at WL. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.:tink::tink:
