I'm worried about being a solo traveler!

Okay, I live in TN and am seriously contemplating getting an annual pass. I work for a bank and have those wonderful bank holidas so it would so be worth it! I'm also planning a trip in Oct for my birthday. Now, my roommate is usually my vacation buddy and as of right now, if the trip in Oct goes through, he'll be able to go with me. But he doesn't get all the holidays I do so to make the AP worth it I would probably be driving down a lot by myself. I have never gone to any amusement park by myself, I think that it's more fun to share with someone else!

So, how do ya'll like going by yourself? Do you get lonely there by yourself? I'm just nervous knowing that I will have to make a few trips by myself if I get the AP.

I have only made one solo trip to WDW, for 5 days/4 nights. It was wonderful! I ate where I wanted, did what I felt like doing, and moved as fast as my feet would carry me. I sat by the pool without wondering if this is what the whole famdamily wants to do. I woke when I wanted, slept when I wanted...you get the picture. If I wanted to spend time with others, I'd meet up with a couple of DISers at prearranged places, like dinners, cruises, parties. If not, I'd have a cellphone number and make my excuses.

I've made three solo trips and thoroughly enjoyed myself each time!

In December 2003 and December 2004, I rented a car and used it occasionally.

This last trip, in March 2007, I used a towncar service from MCO to WDW and return and relied on WDW transportation beyond that. It was lovely not to drive for five days! :)

I stayed at CSR once and PC twice. Both resorts were comfortable. I think I actually prefer PC for a solo visit, as it has just one bus stop.

There's a good chance you can find other solo travelers here on DisBoards who will be there when you are, and arrange to meet up with them for a meal or park touring, and then you'll have company some of the time!

I've gone on many solo trips and never found it lonely. You can chat with other's in line or CM's (they love it). Attend seminars and special events (pin trading, wine tasting, Illuminations cruises, etc.) Those around you are generally friendly since they are on vacation too.

Once I was invited to join a huge family reunion group to watch the MK parade. Someone saw me by myself and came to invite me over. :)

Check the Dis Meets board too and join in for a meal or event.

Be happy, chatty and magic can happen.

Margie,

How would a solo traveler join an Illuminations cruise? My understanding is you have to reserve a whole boat, seating either seven or ten people, and it would be rather expensive and less fun for a solo to pay for that big boat and go on it alone.

Have you connected here with other solo travelers for an Illuminations cruise? I'd like to do this for my next trip (December 4-15), so let me know if you know of anyone who would like to share a boat during that range.

Post on the Illuminations Cruise thread for your month, saying that if anyone has room for 1, you'd like to fill the spot. You would pay your share (usually around $30-$40, depending on how many are splitting the cost). I did this this last December, and ended up in the middle of a birthday party! Had I known this, I might have hesitated to join, but since I was there, and the party was happening, they made sure I felt welcome to join in, even to have cake and sing along! DISers are wonderful people!

I recently took my tenth solo trip-didn't realize it had been that many-but I guess that means I kinda like it. One big reason is that I can do or not do whatever I feel like without worrying about "Is ---[whoever else] going to like doing this?" I never get lonely, but then DH travels a lot, and we're empty nesters, so I'm used to being alone. But when the kids were younger and at home, I really looked forward to a little alone/quiet time for myself.

Okay, thanks! This makes me a little more comfortable about going by myself! And when I go my myself I'll be sure to post the dates so I can do a meet up with some of ya'll!

All these post are making it so much easier to do what I really wanted too have some totally lone time. I can come and go as I please and inDisney no less!!
