The last time ThAnswr posted on the DIS was on the 13th of August, on one of the hurricane threads. I hadn't realized before that night that he (she?) lived in Charlotte County.

I'm hoping that this poster's absence is due to loss of electricity and not anything worse. If anyone has heard anything about ThAnswr, please post on this thread!

My grandparents live in Port Charlotte. The eye of the hurricane went directly over their building. They have been told their power will be out for two months, and they probably won't be able to move back in for 6 months. They are staying with relatives, but many of the folks from their building have been put up in hotels.

It may very well be that ThAnswr is staying someplace with no access to internet, or is simply too busy to post. I'm sure s/he could use lots of prayers in any case, as life is probably stressful right now!

This was the last post from ThAnswr:

Nope, nothing going on here. No thunder, no rain, no wind.......it's just eerily quiet.

Yesterday, I picked up my mother who lives in El Jobean less than a quarter mile from the Myakka river. Trust me on this.......it ain't easy convincing an 85 year old to leave their house. The funny thing is, Mom woke up this morning, saw there was no storm and announced she was ready to go home!

We're all set and ready. We're at one of the high points in Charlotte county so storm surges aren't a concern for us. Neither is wind because we had our old roof replaced with a metal roof last year. The roofer told us our roof would withstand 200 mile an hour winds.

A few stories from the "front." My sister does group therapy and she running around last night trying to get the homeless (yes, we do have them) to prepare for the storm. She managed to get the local Publix to bring some supplies to some of the homeless here (a big thank you to Publix), but she can't convince any of the folks to go to a shelter. One guy said he was going to ride out the storm in a dumpster.

Anyway, nothing yet to report from here, but I do notice an awful lot of birds are in our area. I don't what significance that is, but that's all that's going on.

I know this poster primary from sparing on the debate board, and now the political threads on the CB. And as I said, I didn't realize until the night before Charley hit that (s)he lived so close to my area.

Do any of the political thread regulars know anything???

Can ya'll help me keep this thread bumped up, please!

Bet, they probably haven't restored electricity in her area yet.

My friend's husband (a pharmacist) just returned from Ft. Myers after volunteering to help in Arcadia and Ft. Myers hospitals. He said the destruction was bad and he wasn't even in the hardest hit area. He stayed at a Best Western (can't remember where). He said it was terribly hot and you can't even open windows due to mosquitoes and the West Nile threat.

Hope that this poster and her family are safe.

Ditto on that hope RitaZ. I thought ThAnswr was female but not sure. Hope she surfaces soon. I miss her posts. Kind of you to be checking on her bsnyder!

I'm hoping that everything's alright and that it's just the electricity that's keeping this poster away.

I always got the impression that this poster was a he, but I could be totally wrong. The only thing we ever talked about, until the night before the storm, was politics. I wish now I had taken the chance to get to know him (?) better beyond that subject.

Hey, what do I know? I've been wrong before - never in my political opinions of course ;) but sometimes in other areas:) I'll keep my fingers crossed that ThAnswr is ok.

An occasional bump of this thread may bring news soon.

Here's hoping he/she is doing well and it's just an electrical issue.

Keeping good thoughts here too!! Hope all is well with ThAnswr and their family!

Neither is wind because we had our old roof replaced with a metal roof last year. The roofer told us our roof would withstand 200 mile an hour winds.

I used to work for a company that delt with this product....it won't withstand anymore wind that a regular roof shingle. Hopefully she's ok.

PS- Why don't you put the poster's name in the title???

Adding my hopes that we'll hear good news soon from TheAnswr.
