"I'm Working on It" Journal (Comments Always Welcome)

First of all - WELCOME!!!! :wave2: The biggest and best step you could make was coming here so pat yourself on the back for doing that!!!!

Some advice I have - start out some type of exercise slow and add to it each day. The first day - go for a walk around your house for 10 minutes. Do that for the first couple of days and then add 5 minutes a day for the next couple of days. Some type of activity is good for you. If you are worried about getting bored by that then put on some music and dance around for the same amount of time - and add to that. Once you get in a good groove think about going out and getting a walking DVD/tape - Leslie Sansone has some really good, and easy to start with, 1 mile and 2 mile (she has more too) tapes that you can do at home. I really like them for the days that I can't go to Jazzercise (that's the exercise I'm doing).

Water is very important for the body. It helps to flush out all the bad stuff that's just sitting there. I don't care for warm water either and what I do (because I can't afford bottled water on a daily basis) is I have a large jug that I fill with ice and water in the morning and take it to work and then at lunch I fill it up again. On the days that I can't go home for lunch then I bring two bottles of water and put them in the frig at work. I get 84 ounces of water daily by doing this. I also had to adapt this and drink those at home too because I was finding out that I wasn't getting enough water in - or it felt like a huge chore - by just filling a glass.

I also started out by journaling everything I ate. I took the time to then add up, the best I could, the calories for each food item, carbs, and fat grams. I was at a high weight and figured out, once I started losing, that I needed to eat 1500-1800 calories to lose. The closer to 1500 the better the weight loss. But that had to be combined with water intake and exercise.

My daughter was also doing this at the same time but she was instructed to go to a nutritionist by her doctor and I went with her and got a lot of good ideas and information from her. So if you are able to - you might want to do that as well.

Hope some of this has helped. Not everything that one person does works for everyone else so just adapt things to help you do the above. I feel so much better now that I've lost 52 pounds. I have 82 to go and I'm determined to do it - it's just going to take time.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing your progress - good or bad!!!!

Hi Kris! Welcome to WISH Journals! :wave2:

We're all here for the same reason, to be healthier people.

My first suggestion is to read other journals here. You will find that well all do things a little differently & they work for us. You'll probably be able to pull a little info from each of us to help yourself.

You sound like you have excellent goals in place, and you're aware of your family history & willing to do something about it. :thumbsup2

I know I don't like walking outside by myself either, but if I have music on, then it doesn't matter. If you don't already have one, get a cd walkman or an MP3 player. I'll tell you, the time flies by!

Take care, and keep on journaling through the good & the bad. We're not here to judge, we're here to support each other!

Thank you for all your support! I already screwed up today (future mother-in-law made brownies) but I did do a lot of walking on campus (I parked my car on the far end so I would have to walk) and I did some crunches so at least I accomplished something. I like the idea about the water jug. Thanks! I'm going to try it. Again, thanks for your support and good luck with your endevours!

HI Kris,

First off Welcome!!! You have come to the right place....tons of support here. Congrats on taking the first step - journaling.

I was just like you.....Fast food was my enemy...I always felt bad after I ate it but I loved it. I would tell myself, I am going to eat out today and then start my "diet: tomorrow. I did that for a few years....until I hit my all time high weight. That devasted me. I then decided that I was going to stop...then and there. I did it and I feel so much better. It is hard, don't get me wrong....people here at work would come in with McDonalds french fries and I would be out of my mind....it was bad. Now DH and I eat out when we have to. We used to eat out all the time...but then I decded that I wanted to lose this fat....so we stopped.

You can do this, I know you can! Just remember, if you fall off today, tomorrow is a new day. You can start over. That is the best advice that I have gotten since starting this journey. I used to get mad and beat my self up because I fell off, now, I just start over the next day. Not to say that I don't still feel bad, but there is nothing that I can do to change what I did.

Hope you are having a great day...
