Dear Family and Friends,
I hope this letter finds you all well. I am sending this out to let you know about the journey I am about to embark on. I am going to participate in this years Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk. From July 12-14, I will be walking from Cupertino to San Francisco. For those of you who dont know how very far that is, its 60 miles! This will be a fantastic and difficult experience for me, but also, this is an opportunity to raise money for a cause I believe in wholeheartedly.
Most of you are aware that I lost my mother, Vicki Berry, to breast cancer. I was 18 at the time, but more importantly, she was 45. By the time she was diagnosed, she had a tumor the size of a golf ball. If the cancer had been caught early enough, her chance for survival would have been much better. I dont want anyone I know to ever have to go through what she did. She fought the battle against breast cancer and lost, but I have decided to pick up where she left off and win!
I need to raise a minimum of $1900 to participate in this walk. I hope to raise much more than that. I would like to raise a minimum of $3000. The money I raise will go to fund biomedical research, clinical care, early detection programs, and other services, all for breast cancer. I am asking you to help me meet and exceed my goal. This isnt just about me. 1 out of every 9 women in America will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. We all know someone who has had breast cancer, or someone who will have it. There are over 1 million women in America living with undetected breast cancer. I believe this can change and Im going to do whatever I can to change it.
For the next few months, I will be training almost everyday to get myself in shape for this walk. It wont be easy, but I am committed to doing it. I invite you to join me in my commitment to this cause, not in walking by my side, but by allowing me to walk for you. Allow me to walk for every mother, sister, grandmother, daughter, aunt or friend you have ever known.
If you need more information on this organization, visit the website www.bethepeople.com. You can make your donation online; just tell them my name and participant number, #7303.
Remember, you can make a difference! Each step I take during these 3 days and 60 miles, I will be thankful for your help in making this happen. Breast cancer has already taken too much. Its time to take back our lives, our bodies and our futures!
With love,
Dana Yohner
