We just got our homeowners insurance on our Florida Home and the premium DOUBLED-

Anyone concerned what the maintenance fees are going to do for 2007????

For 2006, insurance at BWV was .173 per point, a small amount of the total dues.

Vero Beach is the only resort that may see a noticible increase and maybe HH but the rest suffered very little damage last year. WDW is not really in an area that gets hit very hard or very often. Disney is a huge customer doubt if any insurance co. wants to price themselves out of the running. Op was right if it starts getting high Disney will just self insure. MHO.

I doubt Disney would self insure, they have too much at stake. If something came through and flattened the entire WDW resort, there's no way they could cover that. They may also have financing that requires insurance, I doubt they paid cash to build for example The Animal Kingdom. I also think the DVC contract requires them to have insurance, what if something catastrophic happened and it caused Disney to go bankrupt? With the size of the company, I'm sure they can negotiate a fair rate, probably with a high deductible and reinsurance.

Probally up, up, up, and away.

I'm sure it will go up. That said, don't forget that the cost will be spread out over many many owners, still AD are going to have to go up.

Actually, many big corporations are self-insured- up to a certain dollar amount. After the self-insured retention, companies usually have some type of excess insurance. Self-insured companies also are usually required to post a bond to show that they can cover potential exposures. However, I don't think there will be a huge fee increase due to insurance at the WDW DVCs. A prior poster was correct that the rates in central Florida have not seen a major increase. Can you tell I have one of those exciting jobs in insurance?

Yikes !

I sure hope the dues do not increase like wild.

With gas, airfare, admission tickets going up -- hope this do not, too !

Seems to me that increased insurance rates was one of the key reasons given to the increases in dues we've seen the last couple of years. At least, that's my recollection of what was reported here and from those who analyzed their dues statements closely.

I think just as likely a culprit will be things like energy/gasoline price hikes. DVC pays for part of the transportation system at WDW, and those buses have to use a lot of fuel!

I'm hoping that dues stabilize somewhat...I guess we were lulled into false security when we saw dues actually decreasing at OKW (and BWV) a few times in the early years.

HHI and VB insurance rates will definately be going thru the roof this year. We own several properties on the coast. All of them are doubling to quadrupling in costs. The Orlando resorts should not see much of an increase. They are too far away from the coast (I would think) to be affected by the recent major insurance hikes.

Watch next year you will be reading how insurance companies are having the best year ever, not to unlike the oil companies now!

It will be a miracle if the Vero resort is still standing after September! :smokin:

Well, I'm taking the chance, I just added a day onto our March vacation!

My mother lives on the East Coast in Florida and her insurance premium went from $2500 to $5000- After inquiring to her neighbors as to what they pay I was shocked!!! They have been paying $8000 annually for Homeowners for years!!

It is what it is!! If Florida keeps get hit by hurricanes you can be assured that our dues will go up due to the cost, even if Disney is self Insured.

However, the room rates will go up too to cover the cost of insurance!

Hopefully Ernesto won't do too much damage!!

I agree with sean-1996 and DisneyHappy... Disney probably self insures with some sort of excess of loss coverage. I guess another way of looking at is that their deductible must be huge. And at that I suspect the carrier(s) probably reinsured the part of the part they agreed to insure.

Anyway I'm not worried about my DVC dues going up in any significant way due to insurance. Westgate on the other hand who knows.

Granny...I'm with you, I keep waiting for a year where there is no increase or even a decrease! The past couple of years, the inflation rate has been very low especially after 9/11, yet dues increases were in the 5% range and more like 7% last year.

WHAT?!!? You mean my dues could increase??? But Hasaan told me that my dues will remain the same forever....

Sorry...just couldn't resist....
