Im useless and need help *sewing machine*

So...as a gift I received a sewing machine as a gift yesterday(super excited!). I went out earlier to look for some fabric and materials so I could start on my first simple, basic project. I was told I would have to go buy some needles for the machine...but how do I know what it is I am supposed to get?

Needles are a little tricky and actually you are supposed to purchase needles that match the fabric you are using..

In general i usually use a lot of universal 70.. A good universal needle will usually keep you covered for most projects.. When you start working with knits, denim or want to do top / decorative stitching you will want to get different needles.

Thank you so much for posting. I unboxed the machine and saw that there was a needle that came with the machine and a couple spares. Thanks for the advice! definitely going to go through the link you sent.
I think I'm going to go through some simple stuff for a bit first before I even start looking at anything fancy. Thanks again for all the help.
