I'm too old fashioned for this modern life

I just got back from the High Street and while I was there my eye was drawn to this very large slogan on this young chap's t-shirt.

It said:

"It's not that I have Tourette's
It's just that you're a .."​

Then there was the word that I consider the most awful in the English language.

Yes, I know about freedom of speech, blah blah, it's only a word, so much else in the world to worry about, blah blah, my problem if I am offended.

Still it made me sad that anybody would want to wear something like that. I can imagine youngsters saying that to each other as a joke but to have it on a t-shirt.

*sigh* Time to book me into an old fogeys home, I think.

Some of the stuff I see embarrasses the hell out of me and I am quite open minded and liberal but to have to explain it to my 10 & 12 year old is not funny and way beyond their years

Kids and idiots have always craved attention. This is nothing new really, just a rather direct and unfunny way of getting 'shock' value from people. The best thing to do is just ignore it.

I would **hate** for my DD (who is insisting on reading everything at the moment as she is 4 and learning) to try and read that out I would be mortified!

I cannot understand why anyone would want to wear something like that.

If the word Bev is referring to is the one I'm thinking of, then I personally think that it's MUCH worse than French Connection's campaign. While the French Connection t-shirts were certainly cheeky, there's a difference between a play on words and blatantly emblazoning something with what many people consider to be the most offensive curse word.

If we were sat having dinner somewhere with our children, and someone on the table next to us used that word in conversationwe would have no hesitation about asking them to stop. So why should we accept it if someone was to sit at the same table, facing us with the word on show for all to see.
I may be wrong but I am sure there is a law about wearing shirts with words such as the one descibed emblazoned all over them.
If there isn't, there bloomin well should be.

Whenever I see anyone wearing one of these shirts it tells me exactly what I need to know about them. In fact, the word they proudly wear perfectly reflects my opinion of them.

I was remembering when my children were at that stage - everything they saw, they read, so shopping trips became a litany of "Cash only at this till please, no parking zone.." etc and I too would have hated for them to read that.

I really dislike those tops too. It amazes me at work how many parents wear items of clothes with swear words written on them whilst standing in the playground. We actually had to write in our news letter once a reminder to parents to watch their language on the playground! I remember once a few years ago I had to speak to a parent about their childs bad language in the classroom. She said that she didn't understand where her child had learned such words from as they don't use them in their household. I would perhaps have believed her if she had not been wearing a belt with a vulgar swear word in large letters on the buckle!

i just think,it shows everyone,what sort of people they are!
do they not realise that all decent people,just look at them & think idiots!

There is to a certain degree under section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986 which states -

any writing, sign or other visible representation which was threatening, abusive or insulting within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby.

This can be committed in any public place.

I know what you mean, some words should be banned from being printed on shirts. Anyone who uses that word these days should be ashamed

theres a new mouthwash advert that uses that word (well ive assumed the word) its got an EX at the end, i wonder if anyones complained about it.

No. You're not thick. You can be proud. I have no clue what it could be and I would rather keep it that way. Clearly I am even more old fashioned than the OP thinks she is

It's going to take something a lot stronger than mouthwash to clean those mouths out
