the biggest kicker for me is you have to sign a loyalty oath if you want to see the President of the United States... blows my mind.

I plan to vote .... I used to like Politics but since my dad died 7 months ago it hasn't been the same.

BTW my dad planned to vote for Kerry and he was a Conservative with a Capital C.

I don't care about Vietnam. I Just want the economy to improve and find a job.

Go with what you're comfortable with and ignore those who try to shame or degrade you into thinking otherwise..

God gave us all "free will" and you are certainly entitled to use yours the same as anyone else..

Not to be nit-picky, but it was ONE speech in New Mexico that required this, and it was for the VP, not Pres. Bush.

True, and there was a National Guard member turned away somewhere in the DC area, as I recall, for wearing a Kerry sticker. However, you said people "have to sign a loyalty oath if you want to see the President of the United States" - and that's simply not true.

If your not a registered democrat or republican YOU CAN VOTE FOR ANYONE you see fit. Politics sometimes bring out the worse in people. I always try to keep my political views to myself(and religion issues) to avoid any confrontation. There's going to be alot of talk,arugments,protests and debates for a while now so like C.Ann said, just ignore those who try to shame you.

I'm a registered voter. But I'm not a registered democrat or republican. That means that each election I can vote for who ever I choose to vote for. I think its call unofficiated. If you decide to vote from now on as a republican or a democrat you have to fill out a form and send it in. Once you change from unofficiated to republican or democrat you can never change over to unofficiated again. I know this, because I needed to get a voters registration form for a family member and I called up this morning. Politics can be so confusing...

Yes, but if I register Democrat, once I get in the voting booth I can actually vote for whomever I want, can I not? Even if it's a Republican? After all, who's going to know (secret ballot and all that...)?

I believe this may apply to primary elections only, not to general ones. In IL, you must select either the Republican, Democrat or Non-partisan ballot in a primary election. However, in the general election, every receives essentially the same ballot and you can vote for whomever you want, be it Democrat, Republican, Liberterian, whatever. If you register with one party or another, you may only limit yourself to that party's ballot in the primary elections. I've never heard of someone being limited in who they vote for in a general election simply because they were a registered voter with a specific party.
