I'm thinking about buying a Step-On Trash Can

from Target. It is for the kitchen, 13 gallon, and cost $59.99. Does anyone have one? Will it last?

Is this the stainless steel one. We have one about the same price from target, stainless steel, step on.....has a rubber seal between the lid and the can. WE HATE IT!!! Once there is trash in the bag, it becomes a chore to get the bag out as the top of the can is narrower than the body. So, the bag often tears and/or snags on the lever mechanism and leads to much swearing on DH's part and big messes!

Not worth the $$......and it has started to rust and we have had it less than a year.

We actually recently purchased this one:

Simple Human Garbage Can from Kohls

(Oh rats, the link only will go to the Kohls home page. The cat # is Model no. CW1142 )

We bought it when they were having a super-duper sale, where charge card users got an additional 15, 20 or 30% off on on-line purchases. (We personally did not have a 30% off - but easily found out the code on-line)

We love this one! I was initially concerned about having the step-on thingy. But, we quickly adapted, and now it isn't an issue.

We had concerns, about it being a shiny stainless, due to spills and fingerprints - which just hasn't been an issue.

The other thing we determined when we were on our trash can hunt - was the need to be able to use regular garbage liners, i.e. glad bags. We did not want to have to buy "special liners" that would cost a fortune.

I don't recall looking at the ones from Target - in case you are wondering why we didn't look at the ones there - so I can't make a comparison.

I used to work in a daycare and we had one of these in the classroom for the diaper garbage. These are TERRIBLE. They don't do much for holding in odor, it's hard to get the bags in/out, and a couple of times it had to be replaces because the mechanism that holds the lid open broke - there's nothing like being smacked in the wrist by a steel lid. Other than that, it was great.

The best thing I ever did was pay lots for a really good trash can. We got a stainless steel step on, very large size. I wanted to be able to throw away a gallon of milk without it talking up the entire can! And having the step on is good for when your hands are full. It's been three years now and everything works great - got it at Lowes for $89 - worth every penny.

Bought a smaller one for the baby's room. We use scented liners for that one and it works fine for the diapers.

That's our experience anyway. I love my trash can.

I think I have that some one - I bought it at Target, and I love it. Had to have one with a lid that the puppy can't get into..... i'm waiting for her to learn to step on the pedal though!
