But why isn't there a cable channel devoted to Classic Disney movies/series/cartoons? The Disney Channel, in its present format, gives very little of its time to anything Disney-related from more than a decade ago, and I understand that.

But wouldn't there be an audience for a Classic Disney Channel? Cartoons all morning, Mickey Mouse Club and "Wonderful World of Disney" specials in the afternoon/early evenings, and a Classic Disney film every single night. There is enough material in the vault, you'd almost never run out of programming.

And it would be the place for documentaries, retrospectives, reunions, etc.

If "TV Land" can be successful, why can't the same be done with a channel of nothing but classic Disney programming?

Money. Can you imagine how much money disney makes selling all the programs you mentioned through the disney movie club and other outlets? TONS.

If there was a dedicated TV channel such as you are suggesting there would be a lot of people that would not purchase the DVD's, Blu-Rays, digital downloads, collector's editions, collector's packages (such as the recent -what is it 8 discs? box with ALL the Pirate's movies and extras).

And yes, the DMC does have all those older, obscure programs you mentioned, and more.

Yes, I know there would still be those who would buy their own copies but a large percentage of people would subscribe to the much cheaper TV channel.

It would be nice but I don't see the incentive for disney to do it.

The only incentive I could see is what you mention: money. Certainly, by making these older and more obscure movies available only on DVD via Disney Movie Rewards and such, they're making a set amount of cash. But I could easily see a new Disney channel being available only on high-cost cable and satellite programming packages, making them even more money. Of course, the likelihood is close to nil, but that's the only motivation I could see encouraging the Disney execs.
