I've never planned a bar or bat mitzvah, but I have just recovered from my daughter's wedding. It turned out very well with a few mishaps. The photographer did not get all the photos I wanted (i.e. my grandson dancing with his mother and my son dancing with his sister, the bride) and the dj did not play the requested song for the father and daughter dance. I should have given the photographer a list of what I wanted. I should have come down harder on the d.j. The chamber music was wonderful.
The white chocolate swans filled with Lindt chocolates were a huge success. The bride and bridegroom Minnie and Mickey on top of the cake made people laugh - that said "it is so Sarah. " That was the only Disney thing, except that the ushers wore Mickey Mouse socks (black with little tiny red Mickeys) but no one saw them.
Anyway the planning actually was fun. I am sure you are planning a beautiful party (I have been to some stupendous bar mitzvahs). I also went to one given by a relative where the grandfather and grandson were both bar mitzvahed. The grandmother that gave the party did it in her condo's rec room with an Italian theme. Very simple, probably very inexpensive and a very good time.
And just think you get to do it again in a couple of years!!!!!
