I got back a week ago from my second split stay, 4 nights each at Boardwalk and Copper Creek, and I am coming to the conclusion that I don't like the split stay. The problem isn't the packing up half way through the trip, or losing access to a room during the heat of the day, its that it's too discombobulating when switching between the resorts. I love both resorts (which is why I bought there), but they are so very different in style, atmosphere and location that the move messes too much with my head.

I feel I don't get enough time to really take advantage of all that the boardwalk has to offer, and its location next to Epcot & HS. In theory, during the festivals I should just be able to nip through the IG and get a dish or two from France or the other close countries and head back, but I didn't get the chance. I did discover Ale & Compass at YC which has an amazing moule starter.

At Copper Creek, I don't think I spent enough time soaking in the atmosphere in the lobby, and it wasn't even holiday season when its even more special. I only ate at Geyser Point once when staying there. I did get to enjoy the pools and had the most magnificent view from my 6th floor balcony during a florida rain storm.

I suppose this is a general problem with a disney vacation - FOMO - there is always more to do, and when you split stay, more opportunities are at your doorstep that you don't always get to take advantage of, so the FOMO is more pronounced.

Not our cup of tea either. We keep way too much in the fridge to make this worthwhile. And we really like staying for a long time and getting comfortable and settled in. Then the kids get comfortable with the resort, and we all feel more comfortable letting them wander around a bit by themselves, too.

But to each their own!

If I owned two such disparate resorts, I'd probably alternate years, assuming I had enough points (with banking and borrowing) for a week at each place. We dislike the packing and moving, but I agree it's also that we feel we haven't enjoyed the resort itself!

The concept of a split stay sounds amazing: who wouldn’t want to stay within walking distance of three separate parks while trying something new? But then you consider the downsides, as you mention, and the shine really starts to come off. And that’s before factoring children and all the additional baggage/logistics that come with moving them after only a few days.

Our split stay days may come when our boys are older and more flexible, but it’s just not worth it for us right now and that’s perfectly ok. That’s why we bought at VGF after all.

This is the way to do it and our goal for how we do the parks in future visits.

We've grown into loving split stays! Several nights where we can walk to EP/HS, and several nights enjoying access to AK, DS, and the occasional trip to MK (we don't do MK as much anymore!). We just make sure we have a pool or cabana or shopping day when we're without a room for 5-6 hours!

I'm not a big fan of split stays, personally. I like getting settled in to the vibe of a place, and do not mind having to be a little farther from some places vs. others. I will sometimes book a tacked-on night at the beginning of a trip to bridge arrival to check-in, but that's still emotionally "in transit."

For me one of the best moments of the vacation is when we have finished unpacking and are all settled in and don't have to unpack until the day we go back home. So I've never done a split stay and probably never will. But some people seem to love them, so I guess everyone is different.

We liked our first dvc visit that was a split stay (BLT and BCV, 3 days each) but haven't done one since. Might try one again next year. We just did our swap day as a resort pool day and hung out at SAB until room was ready.
