I'm sorry, I just have to vent....

All:

This unfortuate story serves as a wakeup call to me. I like to walk and often go out alone. I have recently contemplated using our local waterfront trail but now I'm thinking I will only use the most occupied part of the trail and avoid the parts that are more "natural". This is a very disturbing and frightening story and I, for one, will certainly use it as a lesson to ensure I am very careful.

My heart goes out to that family, she obviously loved life and it's heartbreaking to lose someone like that.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but what is going on lately??????? Here in Utah we have had a similar horrific story this week. On July 17, a 5 year old girl went missing from her home. A search was immediately begun. As the days passed, hundreds of people from the community searched for this beautiful little girl. One week later, her body was found in a Rubbermaid storage container in the basement of the house next door. The man who lived there was arrested and charged with her murder. There was a press conference today where the DA gave the details. He lured the girl into his home, and when she started to get vocal about wanting to leave he covered her mouth and nose and squeezed until her body went limp. He then took her dead body to the basement where he raped her repeatedly. Then he put her body in the container.

The really horrific part (as if that's not horrific enough), was that this man volunteered to search for the girl. He made statements to the press that he couldn't stay home and not help in the search.

When I heard all this I was literally sick to my stomach! What a horrible waste!

I just read abou this yesterday, it made me ill, the girl was playing in her fenced in back yard, her poor family.

And the poor family from the O.P., I wrongly assume if I am on my bike I am pretty safe. I always thought I was safer than running or walking. I am rethinking now. I hate to think that there is a rapist or murderer everywhere I go but with all the stories in the news you can never be too safe.

I was reading the local news online this morning and they were talking about a 52 year old woman who was missing. She was last seen on Tuesday afternoon. She left her house to go to a well known bike/jogging trail to ride her bike, which apparently she goes to alot. She did not return home last night. This morning a big organized search was on for her. Now, apparently, around 10:30am they found her shorts. A little while later they found her, partially clothed and dead. The police have announced that they are treating it as a homicide. Her body showed signs of a struggle. Her bike was also found (it was one of those real expensive ones) so it was not a robbery. They have not said how she died, but they are treating it as a murder. Her husband and daughter (I think teenaged) were there this morning looking for her as well.

Anyway, I don't know why, but I am really, really bothered by this story. I mean everyday there is a news headline that someone died or was shot, or whatever, but this woman was minding her own business doing something that she apparently enjoyed doing and has been doing at the same place for a while. Some ******* had to come along and kill her for no reason (and probably rape her as well, even though that has not been mentioned, but she was partially clothed, so....)

I guess I just don't understand what is happening with this world. It just seems that you can't even go out of your house anymore without being so paranoid that you can't enjoy yourself. I guess that is one of the many reasons that I love WDW so much, you can just leave all of that mess outside and forget about it all!

I'm sorry this is so long, and you are probably saying you don't understand why it is bothering me so much, well I don't know either. I just feel so bad for her family and friends. :sad2:

I just hope they catch the *&^%$#% that did this to this family and string him up by his..............

Thanks for letting me vent!!! Love you guys!!

I just returned from GA 5 days ago spending 2 weeks with my family. I will say that everytime I'm down there, they seem to fill the news with murders and deaths. It's depressing.

I'm 30 miles from Cleveland, Oh in a small community. Anyway, we don't have as much publicity on murders and deaths. Sure they have it on the news, but in Atlanta, it seemed to be half the news.

I'm not saying that where you live is bad, I just wonder if it's a scheduling choice by the news stations. Maybe they take surveys and find that people are drawn to this type of news.

I know that my mom watches the news everyday at noon because my brother is contracted to work in MARTA. She wants to know what's happening down there and to see if my brother is safe. (Many bad things happen there)

I don't know how people can do these horrible things. Especially to such innocent people. WHY ?!?!?!

I guess maybe we should say a prayer for the family and one for ourselves !!!!!!!

i agree with you OP
everytime i turn on teh news theres something about a woman or child being hurt in an awful way
i stopped watching the news lately because i started to feel unsafe doing things i always did

How tragic. It's so sad to read stories like this. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

My dh is an avid runner and sometimes I worry about him when he is late in returning home. It's a shame that we have to worry about people harming our loved ones. It's a shame that jogging trails and bike trails are generally not safe places.
