I was reading the local news online this morning and they were talking about a 52 year old woman who was missing. She was last seen on Tuesday afternoon. She left her house to go to a well known bike/jogging trail to ride her bike, which apparently she goes to alot. She did not return home last night. This morning a big organized search was on for her. Now, apparently, around 10:30am they found her shorts. A little while later they found her, partially clothed and dead. The police have announced that they are treating it as a homicide. Her body showed signs of a struggle. Her bike was also found (it was one of those real expensive ones) so it was not a robbery. They have not said how she died, but they are treating it as a murder. Her husband and daughter (I think teenaged) were there this morning looking for her as well.

Anyway, I don't know why, but I am really, really bothered by this story. I mean everyday there is a news headline that someone died or was shot, or whatever, but this woman was minding her own business doing something that she apparently enjoyed doing and has been doing at the same place for a while. Some ******* had to come along and kill her for no reason (and probably rape her as well, even though that has not been mentioned, but she was partially clothed, so....)

I guess I just don't understand what is happening with this world. It just seems that you can't even go out of your house anymore without being so paranoid that you can't enjoy yourself. I guess that is one of the many reasons that I love WDW so much, you can just leave all of that mess outside and forget about it all!

I'm sorry this is so long, and you are probably saying you don't understand why it is bothering me so much, well I don't know either. I just feel so bad for her family and friends. :sad2:

I just hope they catch the *&^%$#% that did this to this family and string him up by his..............

Thanks for letting me vent!!! Love you guys!!

I just saw it on the news and it bothered me also. So absolutely senseless and sad. I'll be watching to see if they get the guy, too.

:sad2: This is extremely disturbing and incredibly sad. So senseless. My heart goes out to the family of the woman.

And, no, I don't wonder why this is bothering you. It's perfectly understandable.

That is very disturbing and really hits a softspot myfuture mohter in law is 52 and jogs 8 miles a day and it always scares me bc she usally is not back until after dark. People are getting crazy my fiance was held up at gunpoint outside of her cousins house just to steal her cell phone. the cops really didn't seem to concerned b/c no shots were fired. people need to wake up and take care of eachother.
My condolences to the family of that woman

That is terrible and I will up you one tragedy that has had me sad since Sun.

Sun night, two jerks in a stolen U-Haul decide to try and steal $2800 worth of stuff from Home Depot using fake id. The store gets wise, calls the police. A chase ensues down the interstate and thru several suburbs. The police recieve an additional call from a woman in the truck saying she is being held against her will. The pursuit eventually gets to my town. At the same time, three nice boys, buddies needing change to play .25 poker hop in the car of one of them to run to Walgreens to get change. The stolen U-Haul comes barreling down the street and slams into the car. The driver is critically injured and the front seat passenger, a good boy, an Eagle Scout and musican is killed instantly. The backseat passenger is injured but ok. Yesterday, I inadvertantly drove past the funeral home (they are Jewish, hence the quick funeral), I can't tell you how is broke my heart to see all the Boy Scouts in uniform, pretty young girls in black dresses and shell-shocked parents walking in. The paper said there were 800 people at the funeral.

Sorry to hi-jack, it is just that sad.

Hi Stephanie!

I live very close to Rockmart GA where the Silver Comet trails runs through as well. My mom and I have been badly wanting to take our dogs on the trail but have been scared to for the fear of something like that happening. She actually called me this morning when she heard the news that confirmed our fears.

I recently went on the trail with my DH just to check it out. It is so hot here now anyways that we were waiting till September/October to start walking it. Now, we definitely won't be going without my DH...he is a police officer in Rockmart so if anyone tried to mess with us they'd be in for a nice surprise. I also have a Yorkie that belongs in a mental institution for his attempts to unnecessarily "protect" me but that is another story.

I have to agree with you that this made me very mad as well! I hear about things happening like this all the time, but for some reason I was more ticked off at this. I'm guessing I feel this way because she was probably a woman just like my mom and I, wanting to get out and do something good for herself and some jerk does this to her.

When I started thinking about it, I really am getting tired of things like this happening over and over again. Women NEED to try and learn how to protect themselves (myself included). They should make a self defense class a requirement in school classes (maybe PE). There are too many women and innocent children having horrible things happen to them. I wish we would start fighting back and teach these demonic people a less they won't forget. It's horrible to think that we are losing our freedom to enjoy simple things like a walk/jog on a nice day just because we are worried about some crazy person attacking us.

Did the husband do it?

Why would you ask that? I saw nothing in the post to indicate that the husband was involved?

We live in a world with alot of strange people.

Most murders don't show up on TV, so I'm wondering why this one did. Lots of times it is because the husband did it.

I'm guessing by your response that there is no info.

Where do you live that most missing people and/or murders wouldn't end up on the news?

Here they actuallly will more likely put those on the news to try to get leads. If the police already know who did it, then they don't need the publicity to get help.

I believe I have actually met Jenny Ewing on a few occasions through the homeschool community.

here are a few links on the story

I'm sure that it is routine in a case like this to look at the spouse. But I really don't think he did it. I just read an update on the case. Pretty much all of her clothes were shredded, even the ones that were still on her. The update also mentioned that a female jogger was attacked a few months back on the same trail but she was able to defend herself and get away. She was able to give a description, but her perp was never caught. Could be the same sicko!!

I know it is not unheard of, the spouse actually committing the murder and trying to cover it up as a random act of violence. Usually I am the first one to point to the spouse, and it did cross my mind, but my gut says he didn't have anything to do with it.

***YorkieMommy - I know where Rockmart is. I go to college in Cartersville. I too have thought about walking on the Silver Comet Trail, but it is not real convenient and to be honest it was always kind of scary that it was surrounded by woods. I guess I watch too much T.V. huh?

This case has just really hit home to me for some reason. I really feel for her family!! :grouphug:

Wow, talk about hitting close to home!! I'm sorry!!

Hey, I live in Cherokee County as well!!

I've found out that 3 moms in my DD's brownie troop know her pretty well. I recognize her name from the yahoo groups for some of the local homeschool list, but her face is familiar enough that I must have run inot her on a few occasions. I think she might have actually taught a class at the South East Homeschool Expo a couple of years ago. Which is sort of irronic since this yrs Expo starts tomorrow.

I went to highschool with a girl who was found murdered and partially clothed. That was 11 years ago. They still haven't solved the case. I always wonder, did I go to school with the murderer?

The police have a "person of interest" they are questioning. Aparently he recently finished serving 10 yrs for rape.

The homeschool group I am in is planning on taking up donations of clothing, shoes, personal care items etc to donate to local emergency rooms in her name. One of the moms was raped 10 years ago, and she said that rape victims are often sent home barefoot in a set of hospital scrubs. The police usually take all there clothing as evidence.

So sad...I'm feeling upset my a local story too. 18 yr old girl went to NY with a friend to a club, drank too much...her body was found near where I grew up in Jersey. I have 3 nieces in college...these stories haunt me.

It is disgusting and sad! The poor family!!! I'm going to say a prayer from them...I just can't even imagine!!! :sad2: :sad1:

I don't want to hijack the thread, but what is going on lately??????? Here in Utah we have had a similar horrific story this week. On July 17, a 5 year old girl went missing from her home. A search was immediately begun. As the days passed, hundreds of people from the community searched for this beautiful little girl. One week later, her body was found in a Rubbermaid storage container in the basement of the house next door. The man who lived there was arrested and charged with her murder. There was a press conference today where the DA gave the details. He lured the girl into his home, and when she started to get vocal about wanting to leave he covered her mouth and nose and squeezed until her body went limp. He then took her dead body to the basement where he raped her repeatedly. Then he put her body in the container.

The really horrific part (as if that's not horrific enough), was that this man volunteered to search for the girl. He made statements to the press that he couldn't stay home and not help in the search.

When I heard all this I was literally sick to my stomach! What a horrible waste!
