If I don't like the rules....stay out of the party.....
:surfweb:

So true. I've quit posting on another (non-Disney) forum because I didn't like the rules laid down by the owner - or the owner himself, actually. I have friends and family members who still post there but to me, an internet forum is like a barbecue in someone's backyard. If I don't like the host, I ain't goin' to the barbecue, regardless of who else is going. I can never understand why people don't 'get' that they have that option. This is Pete's backyard; nobody's forcing anyone to stay at the party. :confused3

Speaking of barbecues and parties... anyone have a recipe for that brownie pie mentioned earlier in this thread? I could go for that. :upsidedow

Wow, I see I have some explaining to do...

1) In my brain, discussing news/current events & expressing your personal viewpoint about said events IS politics. Perhaps not "Politics" with a capital P, but politics, regardless. So, by my definition, yes, politics is discussed weekly on the podcast. To Quote Wikipedia (which is on the Internet, so it MUST be true!)

"Politics is the process by which groups of people make decisions. The term is generally applied to behaviour within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power"

2) I didn't mean to imply Pete goes all FOX News every week - by "occasionally," I really meant occasionally. And yes, I believe that's totally within his rights. That's why people start podcasts, to express their opinions.

3) It always puzzled the heck out of me why people who hated (for the sake of example) gun control, would go to a thread titled something like..."Gun Control Lovers Gather Here." I hate Crocs, will never look at a pair, let alone buy a pair, so I bypass threads that rave about Crocs....or am I just being simple? :confused3

4) Sorry, but as for these being "Disney Discussion Boards," well, I have a couple of issues with this. a) Scrapbooking has nothing to do with Disney, (for me), so why are threads devoted to it allowed here :rolleyes1 b) Rude, ignorant, annoying people (ie - those who don't agree with me :rotfl2:) do GO to Disney, so I must expect to find them on Disney fan sites. I just choose to avoid them.

5) I didn't think politics & religion debates were the worst threads. Seriously - have you been to a "Refillable Mug" thread? How 'bout "When is a kid too old to use a stroller?" Don't even get me started on "Etiquette On A Disney Bus!" (Really? Am I the only DIS'er that takes public transportation????

As usual, I've gone on too long, but the reason for my question was because I WAS away from the boards for a while. And now that I'm back, I've noticed that some of the some pot-stirrer's have simply shifted their pot-stirring to ANY thread that might become controversial.

I admit, it bothers me that I could possibly be censored, but I could also choose not to come to the DIS. Most of the time, I'd rather be here!

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

NOW I have some serious hurt feelings! Why, if I couldn't scrapbook about my trip, I would never ever ever go to Disney!!!!! Just kidding of course....but there is very Disney-related scrapbooking :)

I'm sorry...but stores like Michael's scare the crap out of me! Entire aisles devoted to different-shaped scissors? I'm just not creative enough to understand that stuff! We won't even get into the tie-dyed Mickey Ears t-shirt thing...just beyond my comprehension!

I have to tell you, the Mickey Tie-Dyes are actually super easy! I'm like you & not creative at all!

This thread has great, easy to follow instructions. My sister and I (and granted, it was more "my sister" than "I") made them in January and it was so much fun and they turned out so cool!

Hello again!
I understand what you mean in some respects, I mean look at the Podcast board! A lot of it is so off the topic of Disney it's silly (not that it isn't fun! :goodvibes) However the main thing here is not to post anything that is deliberately going out to make people angry or upset, if your thread goes off onto a mean path which wasn't intentional, the mods aren't gonna get cross at you. However all these threads which do stir up trouble (such as the community board) are just so hard for the mods to handle, hopefully this will make things easier!

I mean I will miss some of my old 'controversial' threads, however if it makes the mods jobs easier (which they don't get paid to do!) then its all good! However when you see some of the stuff they have to deal with (even a thread on Ellen's Universe of Energy went into a religious debate) the new rules give the mods a chance to nip it in the bud.

I find Pete's rants are usually right on the mark, and ALWAYS entertaining.:thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Pete's rants are one of my FAVOURITE parts of the podcast. I occasionally listen to other WDW podcasts, but they're so....vanilla!

Making the mod's lives easier is definitely a reason I can understand!

What I don't understand is why anyone would even start READING a thread about Universe of Energy!!!

I'm still trying to picture the expression on my DH's face, if I were to present him with a tie-dyed Mickey shirt!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1) My Disney obssession baffles him 2) He would fall over dead if I did anything "crafty"

Before I ask my question, I would like to say something to the Mods: please don't just ban me, just delete this thread...

I've had a LOT of podcast listening to catch up on, & I'm just listening to episode #125 (Jan 12/09). I've also been away from the boards for a while. (2 people, 2 computers, 1 modem....do the math - although we now have a router, so I'm back.)

The "new" policy about politics/religion doesn't really surprise me, considering some of the spew that was thrown around, but I'm a bit confused, considering the rants Pete "occasionally" has on the podcast.

How is politics OK on the Podcast, but verboten on the boards?
do you really want to die on that hill?

There are many double standards. When it is your ball, you can take it and go home when ever you would like.
you do have SOME obligation to the people you invited to play with you.

Indeed, it would be very one sided since one person gets to make and break rules as they see fit. Or can edit and ban the other.
i did not know my wife worked for this company.

Those are great 'general' statements of accusation - why not back them up with examples?
ITA dont start a fight you cannot or will not finish.

I find Pete's rants are usually right on the mark, and ALWAYS entertaining.:thumbsup2:rotfl2:
well not always.

I kinda feel like I have been invited to a party with all people who love what I love and then arguing with the host about her wallpaper and her rule about taking my shoes off.....

If I don't like the rules....stay out of the party.....
:surfweb:

It's ok if you remember to bring socks :thumbsup2

Politics and Religion were banned as topics... does this mean I can actually go to the Community Board now?? That forum was oddly named since there was very little community. We have this same discussion on a Vegas Board I belong to. These are public forums that are privately owned. The owners make the rules.

It's obvious, I need some to do some catching up around here.

I could be wrong but I think that wildoscar was trying to make the point that because these boards are moderated/private and you can be banned for "arguing" with a moderator that it makes it very hard to express your opinion at times. Therefore making it a one sided conversation. It is a very fine line to walk sometimes. Esp. on the internet when things can be taken out of context so easily.

I know I will be flamed for this but I feel it needs to be said:

A change I have noticed on these boards in the last few months has been from those going on the podcast cruise. They are very touchy and defensive of the podcast team and the board rules in general. People have to ask themselves why that is? Hey if I had to spend 4 days on a cruise ship with these people I would not want to rock the boat before hand either or that would make for one very uncomfortable cruise. Some of these people are truely loyal and really do share the same opinion as the podcast team/mods but others I believe have other motives. Glad to see that not everyone feels this way and is still willing to express their true opinions.

BTW: On most topics over the last 2 years that I have been a member of the boards I have agreed with them but when I have not and I felt very strongly about it I have expressed my honest opinion. I tryed to always be respectful while doing so but at times I think I came off as disrespectful or as a pot stirrer. Which was never my intention. Thus one of the reasons I have not been around much lately. My intention was never to offend anyone here and if I have I am sorry for that. I have talked to some wonderful people on these boards and had some great chats on a variety of topics. Not to mention all I have learned about Disney World.

Take care,

Kelly

I have no idea why so many people are so adamant about creating drama. Waaaaah you can't talk about politics. Get over it. If that's why you are here, too bad. It's their choice. If you don't like it, leave. I've left plenty of places when a decision was made that I didn't agree with. I am the administrator for a very large movie website. Decisions have to be made. People will always complain. We banned politics for probably 6 years and the site was better for it. But what I didn't tolerate was people whining about our decisions. They have way more patience here for threads like this than I am haha. I just post the rule and move on.
